Just found a new song. What genre of country would you even call this?

Just heard Quicksand by Laur Elle and it feels really cinematic and western almost like something you’d hear in 1883 or Yellowstone. Not really sure what subgenre you’d call it though… Anyone know other songs / playlists with a similar vibe?

Mean, grim alt-country rock songs

So I’ve had some setbacks, been feeling a little down. Looking to put together a playlist to wallow in it and at the same time blast it away. I need LOUD, medium to fast tempo hard edged rockers, with some strong social political content.

So far I’ve got:

“Never gonna change” Drive by Truckers

“We can’t make it here anymore” James McMurtry

“Lungs” (Townes Van Zandt cover)- the hardest version I can find is by SG Goodman

“Sally was a Cop” Alejandro Escovedo

Tried to find a good rocking version of “If I had a rocket launcher”…That also touches on the bag I’m looking for.

Hard and grim… to match this world right now. What do you got?

Justin Townes Earle-Learning to Cry

Man oh man…. He could write songs, sing songs, and pick them strings. I’ve been aware of him for a few years, but I didn’t start listening to him until a few months back. A horrible mistake on my part…

The Flying Burrito Brothers - "Tried So Hard". Post-Gram (despite the video title) cover of the Gene Clark song. I think I prefer the Fairport version for vocals, but this has some killer pedal steel from Sneaky Pete.

Baritone outlaw sound recommendations

Can anyone recommend some baritone outlaw sounding country? Singers like Sturgill, Waylon Jennings, Cody Jinks, Merle Haggard, David Allen Coe, etc. Also, I like reggae and jam bands, as well. If anyone knows any sort of Grateful Dead, jam band inspired country influenced artists that would be appreciated. I wish I could listen to folks like Daniel Donato, but his voice is way too high. I need catchy country, alt country, neo-folk etc with deep voice singers. Thanks

Country for The Small Stage

Looking for recs for country/americana/bluegrass, everything in-between that feels like it'd blow the roof off the small stage. Preferably folks that get around 100k monthly listeners or less.

Great songwriting, storytelling, heart and soul, just stuff that fits the vibe. Full playlist down below.

Pug Johnson, Willi Carlisle, Taylor Hunnicutt and Margo Cilker are some of my favorites on here.
