How do you hunt boar and when?

The title. Im aoe2 player and very confused with the boars. They are far, far away from the tc and they cannot be lured. Do you place windmill next to it? Or go pro scout thing?

Should cavalry have a disadvantage in marshes and forests?

Rips bong. I’ve been thinking about this a lot and it’s just annoying that in this game cavalry is always King at the end of the day. I know that there are other balances early game vs late, but it just doesn’t feel good. Especially in late games and team games. In 4v4 you have to be a clown to go infantry at all. In real life, cavalry wasn’t always an advantage like if you’re fighting in a forest, running those horses around and trying to dodge trees while also fighting sounds like an absolute nightmare. Same thing with marshes, their feet get stuck in the mud and they’re less effective.

I would love to see knights lose their charge ability or maybe speed reduction in general in marshes and forests. I think it would make for some sick battles where you build up siege and infantry in a forest, creep up to the enemy, the knights don’t wanna rush in so they wait for you to come out and you battle it out. I think it would add a much needed dynamic and would be true to real life like The Battle of Agincourt (1415).

Breathed out a cloud of smoke.

Winrates are out!

https://aoe4world.com/stats/rm_solo/matchups?patch=10056&rank_level=%E2%89%A5diamond

Didn't expect Sengoku fall SO low both in winrate and player count, i guess 40% is because everyone dropped but the people trying that out now.
Jin feels like it should have had actual Sengoku WR, but may even reach 50% with knowledge. Or people is just abusing tower rush and 4 minutes iron pagoda to make it look viable.

Also... WTF is going on with KT??? that 50 stone less for TC should not break stuff like this

Yes is a small sample, it's always small, i take data with a lot of grains of salt (conq 4 Jin op), but i don't ever recall datas settling up very differently over time from early pools

KT Enjoyers! It's your time to increase the winrate of the KT even MOAAAAR!

As soon i reach my 2k Elo with Jin only (1800 atm) I will abuse this strong KT even more! Kt kinda good ! :D

I'm a new player and F**k this game is unplayable. Without exaggerating; this has been the worst experience I've had in any multiplayer game so far.

https://preview.redd.it/w58agsszve2h1.png?width=1918&format=png&auto=webp&s=5b3ce616f07675f5e181839b19a28a2e4f42c06d

I've been queuing ranked team games for a few days and its been the worst experience I've had in any multiplayer game by far.

Almost 30% of my bullshit games end up looking like the one in the screenshot.

The other 20% i have 1/3 players randomly just go AFK, all units idle as the person just f**d off.

The other remaining games end up having one person leave 20 minutes in the match out of nowhere or after spit-firing insults wishing "cancer" on everybody and dips.

I get a few normal matches losing or winning and they are the reason that I keep queuing hoping to just enjoy a normal game.

I've played almost all PvP games you can think of that has a similar type of team-que system and this game has been the absolute worst. by far.
I wish I knew better English to formulate myself better so to not sound repetitive; I really mean by far the worst experience.

Finally decided to try my hand at ranked after playing against A.I. until Level 100

After 240hrs of Singleplayer Campaign and A.I. games I lost my first and only 7x games in a row the last couple of days, lowest Rank I've been against is Gold 2 and the Highest Plat 3

Man this is so fun, I love getting steamrolled by a bunch of people over and over way above my skill level...

Do I even bother trying to keep at this? I can play against Ridiculous A.I. and sometimes higher if I'm absolutely locked in with a good match up but this is kinda soul crushing.

I'm sorry but being cannon fodder for these people isn't fun, I was hoping to see some adjustment in my matchmaking after 7x games but I guess not?

And like, the games are queuing nearly instantly, it's not like I've been sitting here waiting 5+ min to find someone because it can't, the longest I've waited is like maybe 45 seconds lol.

Everybody is playing Calvary civs. Calvary seems just diabolically OP right now, 10x games and it's all Cav civs. I thought spear-men and crossbowman were good against Calvary? Nope, Calvary eats me alive every time. Holy cow does anybody play or do anything else besides Calvary? I thought you build Spearmen and then Crossbowman against Calvary civs but it doesn't seem to do anything??

EDIT: 3x more games, one Gold 1, Platinum 1, and one Gold 2 (10x game loss streak, bronze/silver no where in sight) - Gold 1 guy just talked a bunch of shit to me after I lost and he was level 22 (smurf? They've only played ranked and quick match 1v1's pretty much only as the French and "This user has not yet set up their Steam profile"), sorry boys I think I'm done for a bit - super frustrating matchmaking experience, good luck to any new players and thanks for the guidance regardless. It’s break time lol.

I'm not being a )1c#, but..... why????

Well, me and my friend paly some ranked duos. We float between plat1/gold3. But there is one thing that really bothers me. Why people always wait until every landmark is destroyed?

I mean, if someone outplays one of us and, let's say, do a really good dive and kill a ton of my villagers and I see that my friend has no way of winning by himself, we just surrender.

But most of our opponents do something like this: one of them is in a situation where he practically has no army left, his friend already left the game or basically died. Then we are stuck with a guy using all his villagers to repair the Berkshire or White tower. What is the point? I really mean it.

In the end, is something like 4 matches in a day, 2 losses taking about 20 min each; and 2 victories taking 40+ min each. It get really tiresome.

Sometimes, I send an "?" ingame chat (just to get a reaction, not intended to be toxic or anything like that). The enemy answer with a "?" back....

HOL Enjoyers

I know there isn't too many of you but had a question.

Why or when would you ever use Lancaster Castle to level up?

Demilamcers look underwhelming. Especially for the cost.

12 yeoman cost = more resources than 12 singles. (Gold vs wood).

The castle only does 2 more damage than a tower.

I like using off meta ageups but I can't see any reason to ever use this

Speed Building Placement Modifier and others for an old aoe2er

Upfront preface: extremely casual starcraft 2 and aoe 2 player since childhood so mildly biased on what I've learned. couldn't find a post addressing if these do or don't exist.

tldr: how do I do that ctrl+left click building placement queue thing? and other common hotkey modifiers I should know?

Finally bought AoE4 a few weeks ago and I'm trying to get my head around it converting from AoE2 and trying to figure out if there are easy analogues. I understand that the way they split the buildings by age rather than by econ vs. military is pretty locked in and can't be changed (although if it can is there a way? really throws me off to have to think about which age a building is from) but I can adjust. and I assume a lot of it is just adjusting to new metas, but there are some like basic modifier like stuff I can't figure out or maybe i am stupid

My main issues are around finding the like unique modifiers for mouse clicks for common actions I'll list the modifier and action below if anybody could help find the analogues:

  • ctrl+left click when you've selected a villager with an existing job or queue and are placing a building | it resets their queue so they start work on the new building but just like when holding shift it doesn't kick you out of the build menu so I can ctrl place the first house and shift place 4 more and the villagers start on the new queue right away without extra clicks to reset their queue beforehand
  • shift+left click on individual units you've selected | Deselect individual units. usually used when i want exactly 4 villagers out of the 8 sitting there. I also don't see how to view the health of all the selected units is there a view I can enable?

Seriously thanks, the graphics look pretty but trying to switch over is driving me nuts when I can't do speedy placements I figure the newer game should have something I just can't find it.

Unique Villager Idea.

They don’t require any drop off and gather continuously, BUT they are slower than a Teutonic Knight, BUT you can also make cute little wagons for them to garrison inside that move at 1.5 speed and offer some protection.

I think this would work well with Hussite variant of HRE. Also for this Hussite variant they will have a separate military wagon that boosts the attack speed of nearby FLAIL infantry as well as allow hand cannoneers to fire will garrisoned inside.

Wagons and Flails baby. It’s literally the only thing we are missing.

Civs getting too different?

Hi everyone, I guess this will be an unpopular opinion, but I hope we can have some honest discussion without getting mad at each other. Also please consider that I am writing this as a gold ranked casual player who plays 2-3 hours every few days, so this might influence my take.

To make it short, I love AOE4 and loved initially at release that all 8 civs where mostly so different, but I feel like it is getting a bit out of hand with each new civ having so many unique units and a completely different take on the macro. Even the variants are not only variants, they have mostly completely different units & a different playstyle than the parent civs.

The number of "special" and hard to play civs is in my opinion way bigger than the number of more basic civs like English or French, which should never happen in a game in my opinion.

I am someone who doesn't main anything, I love playing every civ just to have some variety. But that means soo much theory and reading and knowledge. A civ like Macedonian is considered difficulty 1/3, having more unique than basic units, a fifth resource and unique technology plus the landmark with more unique units.

With each new civ bringing at least 3-5 unique units, different buildings and on top of that 6 unique landmarks, which get more and more text with each new civ, I am having a hard time developing any match up knowledge without investing hours day to day and remembering everything. Before you could hover over a landmark and see quickly "ah this is a more efficient keep with some unique technology". Now it is some active ability forest creating, grassland spawning, monks garrisoning converter building. I know I am exaggerating here, but I think this is a pattern you can observe.
Even the same unique unit (Palace Guard) can have different stats in different civs.

In this tempo we will have 40-50 civs in 5 years with over 250 unique units and buildings

I feel like it tries to mix the race differences like in SC or WC3 with the amount of civs in AOE2, which I am not sure can work perfectly for casual players.

For someone invested in this game, playing several hours a day, what I am writing here sounds probably ridiculous, but maybe there are some people who share some of the stuff I am writing? In theory I love each civ, every difference they have and I am looking forward to the 2 new ones later this year, but in practice I feel like everything could be more streamlined without lowering the fun I have with the game.

Cheating (potentially new exploit)

Has anybody else come across this Chinese player who openly admits to cheating in chat. He was playing as Jin dynasty and making OOTD Units. When asked why he cheats he just laughs and trolls. I've never seen this exploit before

If anyone else has the time to watch the replay, please do report.

Why are there no tournaments for casuals???

Hey guys, I have been playing for a while now (pushing Gold 2 but am grinding my way to Plat) and I love the game! It's really fun to play and I love how there is new content out every now and then, keeping the game fresh and alive (I need to dive a bit more into Jin Dynasty but for now it is English and French for me).

My one quarrel is that there seems to be NO tournaments for casuals at all. Yeah we all loved the Homestead Cup (how amazing was that?!), but why does nobody organize low-level tournaments?

I have looked everywhere. On Liquipedia, only bigger tournaments with a prize pool are mentioned, but I don't even care about a prize pool really, I just want to experience a tournament. Be part of something fun. Feel like a pro for a day. You know, things like that.

I also asked ChatGPT but that didn't go anywhere because the AI doesn't even play the game and asked me if I wanted to play LEL? But what does this have to do with League of Legends???

And on top of that, not only are there literally NO tournaments for casuals, but there also are even less 2v2 tournaments!! I get that 1v1 is the most common tournament format for AoE, but COME ON, 2v2 is so much fun, too!

What now? You are saying that there ARE weekly tournaments for casuals? Where you can even win coaching by esteemed players like Askallad, Not_A_Beaver (or NAB as he is called in the streets), and even by MYRIAD?

THAT'S RIGHT! Rising Empires is hosting weekly tournaments for anybody up to Conq (1550 elo), split by brackets, with weekly changing map pools, and a coaching raffle for all participants finishing the group stage!

AND ALSO to celebrate the birthday of one of their favorite admins, Rising Empires is hosting a 2v2 tournament for 3 brackets on May 30th:

Lower Bracket: team average Elo <1200
Upper Bracket: team average Elo 1200 - 1500
The Warchief Club: team average elo 1500+

Start time: 15:00 UTC (2h earlier than the regular LEL events), Check-In opening 1h before

Registration/Info: http://start.gg/rew168
Discord: https://discord.gg/rising-empires-aoe4-957044242520375336

For this Special Event, Rising Empires is adding a small prize pool for the Lower and Upper Bracket (20$ for each 1st place team, 10$ for each 2nd place team). The winners of The Warchief Club prize pool will be increased to match our regular TWC prize pool (so each individual player still receives the same expected prize).

We'll also of course run a regular 1v1 tournament this weekend (May 23rd) too:

Bottom Bracket: Ranked Elo <1100
Mid Bracket: Ranked Elo 1050 - 1350
Top Bracket: Ranked Elo 1250 - 1550

Start time: 17:00 UTC, Check-In opening 1h before

As well as The Warchief Club (start time 15:00 UTC).

Registration/Info: http://start.gg/rew167

Thank you for your attention to this matter! I hope to see you all soon!
