Is this a smoking gun?
I started reading this fic a few days ago and I've been decently enjoying it and commenting on the chapters. My biggest critique of the fic is that there's often repeated information and very clear phrases and sentences structures the author uses. This isn't unusual in novice writers and in fanfic so I didn't think much of it...
Until I saw this comment on a chapter I commented on and my heart sank. Is this the smoking gun I think it is? The way the "authors notes" are phrased is so suspicious 😭 the author doesn't have a co-author and has never mentioned a beta reader/editor. I'm going to be so upset if I've read 7 chapters of AI written/edited stuff. I really want to give this person the benefit of the doubt. This is the first time in my fandom I've ever felt like I actually found something AI.
Does anyone have thoughts about how I can confirm it's AI? Another layer is I'm in a shared discord with this author and before I saw this had been talking to them publicly and praising their fic. I don't want to mislead anyone in the discord by recommending/hyping up a fic that's AI.

Killing your favourite character?
People of all fandoms,
how do ya'll feel about the MCD warning.
I'm almost conviced this is a highly subjective topic but I'm intrigued by the comments I read on fics that are tagged with it.
I love a good death scene of my favourite charakters.
I don't even care about it too much if it's a fic for a fandom I'm not part of but I like it so much for the ones I'm in. I love them but I want to read how they suffer. For me it gives the source material new perspecitves if it's post-canon and I love myself a darker toned AU.
I know I'm not alone but I'd love some discourse about it.
So how do you feel about it?

Is this comment a bot?
Because the last line is giant-red flag bot scam, but the rest of it sounds so real. Like someone who red the fic and knows the characters. If it is a bot, how are they getting so good at faking comments?

I was reading a fic (200+ ch), went to try going to the next chapter, then this pops up. so then I go back, then try a different chapter. SAME THING HAPPENS?!

Looking for a beta reader for a long fic!
Hey! This is my first time posting here, pls be nice!
So, I’ve been working on this fic for a while now, I’m at (almost) 6 complete chapters and was hoping to get a beta for it before I started posting it on Ao3! It’s Shen Yuan centric; he keeps trying and failing to reach a happy ending and is constantly made to restart by the system. This “cycle” however is different - instead of being in Shen Jiu’s body, he’s in his own from before when he was 8.
I’ve had a lot of fun writing and planning it, and while I do have some silly ideas for the “not beta read” tag, I’d still like to know if anyone is interested! It’s my, if I’m remembering correctly, first Ao3 fan fiction!! Let me know if you’re interested!

Word count progression in a multi chapter fic (wip)
I’m currently 18/29 chapters into writing my first ever multichapter fic, and i put the word count of each chapter into a spreadsheet. is this… normal? i would expect a bit of natural fluctuation between chapters, but this is ridiculous.
Just to note, chapters 15-16 are a really big, action-filled part of the story, and 18 was a huge one for transitioning into the back half of the fic. I expect the word count from here on out to hover around 4-5k. I don't anticipate any more near-7k chapters.
i have also been learning how I like to write over the course of this fic, and have been honing my descriptive abilities. i’m not happy with my first three chapters especially, and intend to rewrite those once i complete it. so i anticipate each of those to almost double.

One of my favorite authors has posted the nicest things about me!
I wandered back onto AO3 after a decade-plus hiatus and fell headfirst into a great fandom with a lot of really interactive authors who enjoy the same ships that I do. When I came back to the site, I had made it my goal to comment more often and more thoroughly than I had in the past, hoping for the same for myself when I started to post my own writing. I am now a very chatty commenter, and I love to comment on quotes, observations, and theories. I haven't quite reaped what I've sown on my own fic, but I know that at least a few of the authors appreciate it, as we've had some fantastically long and thorough comment threads. And recently, I found that one of them has posted a few times about my interactions with their fic and the positive feelings they've gotten from these. My heart is so happy to see that we have a mutuality there; they are an author who responds in kind, and I keep their responses in my inbox to reread them because they make me smile. This isn't the same experience I had a decade or so ago, and it certainly isn't the experience I had around the same time when I also spent time on FF.net. Maybe times have changed, maybe I'm in a better fandom, maybe it's random chance, but it's been lovely. 🤩

Fonts on AO3
I had a technical question. Is there a list of fonts that I can include in a work that I can be reasonably sure most readers will be able to see? I was working on a piece where a character sometimes communicates with written signs (before you ask, the character is not Wile E. Coyote, but that was one of the inspirations), and I thought it would be an interesting touch to vary the font on those signs.
