C-Drama Recs?

Hello! I am still new to C-Dramas and I’m looking to get into them but the ones that I have watched so far like WIFTY and The Untamed got me disinterested very quickly. Are there any C-Dramas with an engaging plot that are good for beginners? For reference, I would not like to receive a recommendation with the common troupe of the FL acting like a child 💔 it’s getting tired for me.

Something with a depressing or traumatic storyline

I'm interested in watching a drama that's super.. dramatic, I guess? I want something stomach-churning and traumatic even. I'm not really looking for crime dramas but moreso something more interpersonal/character oriented. Anything goes (it can be cdrama, kdama, etc..) and can be about anything (like whether its school, adult, or whatever else doesnt matter) as long as it fits the bill of having something batshit insane happen it, but I would prefer something a little older? like older than 2019.

Any type of second chance drama

I’m really interested in Thai, Korean or Chinese dramas where the characters get a second chance - transmigration, reborn, revenge or even just like reclaiming life after a big trauma (death, divorce, injury).

Some good ones I like are like Doctor Cha, Birthcare Center, etc.

Drama recommendations to watch with my religious dad

I’m looking for k dramas that I can watch with my dad! He’s religious (Christian) as am I but he’s a bit more traditional. He used to really like Asian movies like Ip Man, Red Cliff, Fearless, etc. But he doesn’t really watch that much TV anymore. I loved business proposal and true beauty and summer strike, but I know that isn’t his cup of tea. I just finished the wonderfools, which is a little more up his ally, but it kinda portrays the church in a negative light so he probably wouldn’t like it. I just miss being able to watch a show with my dad, one that we can both enjoy! I totally respect his choices but I just miss that bonding time! Based on his old interests, he enjoys more action type shows/movies. So I would like something with little to no swearing, no sexual content, and just clean overall, minus violence since that is pretty standard for the action genre! Sorry for the long-winded message, but I just thought I’d ask! Thank you!

Best Japanese dramas (read below)

Hey everyone!

I'm looking for Japanese dramas and movies and would love some recommendations based on my taste.

I enjoy:

  • Romance with lots of chemistry, banter, teasing, and a satisfying happy ending.
  • Workplace/office rom-coms like Business Proposal, What's Wrong with Secretary Kim, Shooting Stars, and Hidden Love.
  • Wholesome romances that make you smile and "kick your feet."
  • Survival, thriller, zombie, disaster, and psychological game series like Alice in Borderland, I Am a Hero, Train to Busan, and All of Us Are Dead.
  • Action-comedies with a fun group or found-family vibe, similar to Vincenzo, The Fiery Priest, Extreme Job, and The Roundup.
  • Good bromance and team chemistry.
  • Detective/crime dramas with comedy.
  • Anything with a lovable cast and great character interactions.

Some of my favorite Asian dramas and movies include:

  • Alice in Borderland
  • I Am a Hero
  • Business Proposal
  • What's Wrong with Secretary Kim
  • Shooting Stars
  • Hidden Love
  • The Best Thing
  • Vincenzo
  • The Fiery Priest
  • Flex X Cop
  • Train to Busan
  • All of Us Are Dead
  • Extreme Job
  • The Roundup
  • Midnight Runners
  • The Dude in Me
  • Zombie for Sale
  • Ashfall
  • Emergency Declaration
  • The Pirates
  • Welcome to Waikiki
  • Zombie Detective
  • My Sassy Girl
  • Always

I'm not really looking for slow, artsy, or tragic dramas. I prefer something that's entertaining, funny, fast-paced, has great chemistry between the characters, and ends happily.

Thanks in advance!

PLEASE HELP I CAN'T REMEMBER THE TITLE OF THE CDRAMA/KDRAMA that i watched before.

PLEASE HELP ME FIND THIS C-DRAMA/K-DRAMA! 😭

I can't remember the title of a drama I watched years ago. I think it was released sometime between 2001 and 2019. I'm pretty sure it was a modern-day C-drama, but there's also a chance it was a K-drama.

The only part I clearly remember is the ending:

The second female lead (or the main villain) kills the main female lead. Afterward, she ends up in a psychiatric hospital, where she believes she's the actual heroine and lives in her own delusion.

That's all I can remember. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I'd really appreciate any guesses or suggestions.

Dramas love fireworks but I can't relate 😭

Not just in k, j, and c-dramas, but also in animation, fireworks are something all the characters love. And I agree, they do look pretty - but only on the tv, where I don't have to hear them. I just personally find fireworks really obnoxious 😭 My nervous system is not wired to enjoy them and I'm always worried about my pets. They just stress me out. Low-key wish they only existed in fiction.

Please Help me find this drama!

I don’t remember if this was a regression story or a transmigrated story but it’s starts off explain that the fl was obsessed with a man who did not lover resulting in the her death as well as her fathers ( only living relative). He did this to steal military power and claim the throne.

Then next details I remember is the fl wandering around after a party where she stumbles upon the ml who is chained up and going crazy to poison. The fl gets to close and he accidentally hurts her before calming down. Later he realizes she calms his poison and ask her to keep him company everyday.

Next detail I remember is that during a hunting competition (I think) there is an assignation attempt on the mo resulting in the fl taking an arrow for him. When she passes out she happens to grab the ingredient needed to cure the mls poison.

Lastly it’s not a major detail but the fl invites the ministers lives ones to a party to keep the hostage passively in order to help the ml

The fl also has a friend who records everything about nobles in order to linked the stories to the commoners

The guy she used to be obsess over it’s mother keeps trying to put him together with fl in order to get her fathers military power

Her father is very doting and caring to her.

The series is has a very whimsical vibe but nothing supernatural happens

I can’t find this drama and it’s driving me crazy!

Compilation of scenes where the FL manhandles the ML

I wasn't sure if this needed the NSFW tag, so added it in case.

I am a HUGE fan of role reversal in dramas – I do not like those domineering MLs and weak, stupid FLs (no hate to you if you do, of course). So I made a compilation of little moments where the FL "manhandles" the ML, like chin-tilting, collar-grabbing, etc.

I'll be making a part 2 as well sometime!

Looking for adventure/mystery/horror/historical Chinese shows or movies — tired of romance dramas

Hey everyone,

When I was learning English as a kid, I feel like I barely had to "study" — I was just constantly surrounded by the language through cartoons, movies, and shows I actually liked. I'm trying to recreate that same immersion with Chinese, but I'm struggling to find content that fits what I'm into.

Every recommendation list I find is full of romance dramas or Disney-princess-style stuff, which just isn't my thing. I'm looking for:

  • Adventure
  • Investigation / detective stories
  • Mystery
  • Horror
  • Historical dramas (not necessarily romance-focused)

Doesn't matter if it's live-action, animated, a cartoon, or an anime-style show — as long as it's in Mandarin (or has a solid Mandarin dub) and isn't centered on romance.

Bonus points if it has good subtitles (Chinese + English, or Chinese only if the vocab is manageable for intermediate learners).

Any hidden gems you'd recommend? Thanks in advance!
