Let's hear some song titles that contradict or oppose each other. Genre or language does not matter. Some examples of what I have:
Love Will Keep Us Together by Captain & Tennille
Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division
Burn The Witch by Queens of the Stone Age
Don't Burn The Witch by Venom
Run by The Cancel
Walk by Pantera
Guerita by Banda Machos
Negrita by Los Yes Yes
If you have alternates to song titles that are already mentioned (that you enjoy more) feel free to drop those as well.
For me it was when I first heard music blending traditional folk instruments with 808s. Something about it felt ancient and futuristic at the same time. I've been chasing that feeling ever since. What was yours?
I was listening to an older Marshmello track (like “Alone”) and suddenly got hit with a wave of really strong memories from the 2015–2017 Minecraft/YouTube era. It wasn’t just nostalgia—it felt overwhelming, like a full emotional flood from that time in my life.
It reminded me how strongly music can be tied to certain periods and content (Minecraft videos, old YouTubers like DanTDM, etc.). I didn’t expect it to hit that hard.
Does anyone else get this kind of reaction from older EDM or songs you used to listen to a lot?
I have these:
Just the way you are. - Billy Joel and Bruno Mars’ are equally shitty. (Even Billy Joel hates playing his)
You look wonderful tonight. - Eric Clapton. He gets too drunk to drive by the end of it!
You look perfect to me. - Ed Sheeran can’t write anything but schmaltz.
I just heard an inexplicable version of Sign o’ the Times by Nina Simone and that’s what prompted this question. And I know that 911 Is a Joke by Duran Duran is going to appear here, as it should, but please just not too many upvotes lol.
Long story short I’m in high school band and my director said we’re only playing as the graduates sit down, but not when the names are being read. So only really for about 5 or so minutes. I swear that out of the few graduations I’ve been to that you play the whole time except for maybe when they’re giving a speech. Director said it’s so you can hear the names being called but I don’t think it’s that loud. I mean I have senior friends so I’m fine with cheering them on but I feel like it’d be a bit awkward if we’re not doing anything.
My choice is: Lil Wayne
What is yours?
I only recently heard the original The Battle of New Orleans by Jimmy Driftwood, which is longer and a little edgier than Johnny Horton’s cover. But it’s Hortons version that is most known and that others have in turn covered. Is there another song where a cover becomes the new standard that other acts copy?
