The term "gatekeeping"is confusing to me, what does it mean?

It's used far too often and in far too many contexts to have a clear meaning, essentially rendering it meaningless, see also "bot"

Does the yachtornyacht podcast gatekeep yacht rock? And if so, how?

Is producing 100s of hours of content defining yacht rock gatekeeping?

Is saying Baker Street isn't yacht rock gatekeeping?

It's disagreeing with someone gatekeeping?

What the hell is gatekeeping?

Hey Corfuians, your island looks like Italy just before it kicks Scilly

It's a beautiful island, and the people are great, I love it here

I'm currently on holiday in Greece, what's this genre called?

Every beach bar I go to is playing this very slow paced type of house that is very mild and inoffensive, with pleasant piano chords and sweet female vocals,

Every tune seems to be a cover of a well known radio hits, like Dreams by Fleetwood Mac and The Wonder of you by Elvis.

Every tune sounds the same, same drums. Same tones, same tempo.

I guess that Dua Lipa/Elton John tune from a few years ago might fit into this sound.

This is some of the most boring music I've ever heard in my life

Does it have an "official" genre name? Is it just beach bar house?

So I'm in my 50s, and when I was a child, getting into pop music in early 80s, the 60s seemed so so far away; the Beatles, The Stones, all of that, was ancient history, even though it was only 15 years before. Does 2010 music seems like ancient history to young people today? Is Katy Perry a grandmot

I know the guys don't like people to suggest genres, but I feel there must be some inspiration to be gleaned from this place I saw in Greece*

*blatant "I'm in Greece" post tbh

What's your country/city's constantly delayed infrastructure project?

In Dublin, it's Metro North. A train connecting the airport and northern suburbs to the city centre, it's been talked about for at least 50 years

Do American couples renew their vows as often as they appear to onTV shows?

Pretty much every TV show based on relationships will have a vow renewal storyline if the show makes it to season 4/5 ;)

What are some band names that are a low rent version of a musical genius or superstar?

I'm thinking

The Trashcan Sinatras

And

Campervan Beethoven

I don't mean puns on existing band names or tribute acts I mean actually band names

The Mozart's from Temu

One star Chopin's

Something like that

What are some examples of annual, or maybe just once in a lifetime, social customs where you are expected to make a financial contribution to a traditional craft or industry?

What I mean is this:

It's expected when you die, to be buried in a beautifully hand crafted piece of carpentry made of expensive hardwood called a coffin.

Wedding and engagement rings might be the only time a lot of men buy gems, precious metals and a employ jewellery maker.

In the UK and Ireland at least. It's very customary to buy tins of biscuits (cookies) at Christmas time, you might buy the same biscuits in standard packaging the rest of the year. This traditional must keep many tin related businesses in operation.

what others can you think of?

I have a question about slavery and religion perhaps someone might be able to answer

White Europeans abduct and enslave Africans and bring them to the Americas. The Europeans consider the Africans as property, less than, sub human, savages, primitive, something between an animal and a human. The Africans are subjected to horrific lives of constant toil and brutal oppression.

The Europeans considered themselves sophisticated, enlightened, educated, civilised.

The Europeans were Christian, the Africans would have had a variety of spiritual beliefs, perhaps believing in a number of gods or godlike beings, and a range of ceremonies and rituals associated with them.

Why did the Europeans allow/insist that the Africans convert to Christianity?, why did they want these "primitive subhumans" to become children of their enlightened god?

Why did the Europeans want the savages to be seen as equal to them in the eyes of the lord?

Doesn't make much sense to me.
