Could the Supremes have reunited at Motown 25 - if Flo was living ?

If they did, imagine the claps and cheers. And they get little buzz and maybe record a reunion album on Motown, maybe Flo’s daughters sing backing vocals on a song or two. And with a nostalgia train ….Mary, Flo, Diana do us tour.

Are any of MJ’s solo albums before Off the Wall actually classics, or does his run really start there?

The Jackson Siblings Albums 💽

All of the Jackson siblings released solo albums at some point in their careers, but Michael and Janet Jackson truly found the perfect formula for success. Michael’s legendary partnership with Quincy Jones, and Janet’s iconic collaboration with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, helped shape some of the greatest music of all time. I always wished the other Jackson siblings could have reached the same level of superstardom as Michael and Janet.

Who will play Phil Spector in the upcoming biopic? (Zendaya is cast as Ronnie)

He was, er, interesting to look at to say the least.

Who would be ideal casting for such a complex and menacing character? He is essentially “the villain” and did some very nasty things before finally “accidentally” murdering actress Lana Clarkson.

No idea if an actor has already been cast by now but who would you like to see?

finally found a good use for AI: soul covers of songs I love

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share an album I made called The Soul Edition. It’s a collection of classic and modern songs reimagined as 50s, 60s and 70s soul / Motown style covers

I know AI music can be a touchy topic, so I want to be upfront: the covers were made with AI, but I did get the proper cover licenses for the songs, so this is fully legal and cleared

To me, this feels like one of the better uses of AI: not pretending to be a real artist or hiding what it is, but using it to explore how songs we already know might sound in a different era and style

Would love to hear what you think, especially from people who actually listen to soul. Does it feel tasteful? Any tracks that work better than others?

Don’t Look Any Further (TV performance) - Dennis Edwards and Siedah Garrett

In 1984, Dennis Edwards released his debut single “Don’t Look Any Further” from the album of the same name. The song proved to be a success for Motown Records reaching no.72 on the Billboard Hot 100 and no.2 on the Billboard Hot R&B chart. The beat has been heavily sampled throughout the years by various artists, especially Hip-Hop. This clip is from 1984 when Dennis Edwards and Siedah Garrett gave an in-person performance of the song.

Run, Run, Run (LiVE) - The Supremes

In 1964, The Supremes released their third single “Run, Run, Run” from their album “WHERE DID OUR LOVE GO”. The single and album versions feature The Four Tops on background vocals along with The Supremes. The song reached no.93 on the Billboard Hot 100 and no.22 on the Billboard Hot R&B chart.

The performance in the clip is from the T.A.M.I. Show in 1964; it was a part of a medley of songs which is why it was reduced to a verse and a chorus. Mary and Florence really did well with the singing and the choreography. And Diana’s energy was so vibrant here. All 3 ladies voices were so clear and resonant!

Four Tops - Ain't No Woman (Like The One I've Got)

The Four Tops are an American vocal group formed in Detroit, Michigan, in 1953 as the Four Aims. They were one of the most commercially successful American pop music groups of the 1960s and helped propel Motown Records to international fame. The group's repertoire has incorporated elements of soul, R&B, disco, adult contemporary, doo-wop, jazz, and show tunes. Lead singer Levi Stubbs, along with backing vocalist "Abduli"Duke" Fakir Renaldo, "Obie Benson and Lawrence Payton remained together in the group for more than four decades, performing until 1997 without a change in personnel. Along with fellow Motown groups the Marveletts, Martha and the Vandellas, the Temtations, and the Supremes, the Four Tops helped to establish the "Motown Sound"; pop-friendly soul and R&B with a clean, polished production quality. They were notable for having Stubbs, baritone, as their lead singer, whereas most other male and mixed vocal groups of the time were fronted by tenors.

LYRICS

Every day the sun comes up around her

She can make the birds sing harmony

Every drop of rain is glad it found her

Heaven must have made her just for me

When she smiles so warm and tender

A sight for sore eyes to see

Ooh (ain't no woman like the one I've got)

Oh, no, they don't come better

(To make her happy doesn't take a lot)

She don't ask for things, no diamond rings

(So together, like a hand in glove)

Like pages in a letter

(Ain't no woman like the one I love)

She can fill me up when it's down I'm goin' (I'm goin')

Put a little music in my day

Wouldn't be surprised if my love keeps growin' (it keeps growin')

Bigger every minute that she stays away

I would kiss the ground she walks on

'Cause it's my word, my word she'll obey, now

Woo-ooh (ain't no woman like the one I've got)

Well, I kiss the ground she walks on

(To make her happy doesn't take a lot)

She's a real good friend right to the end

(So together like a hand in glove)

A lonely man when she's gone

(People, ain't no woman like the one I love)

Ooh, what a good, good thing I've got

She means to me a lot

No, no, they don't come better

(To make her happy doesn't take a lot)

She don't ask for things, no diamond rings

(So together, like a hand in glove)

Like pages in a letter

(Ain't no woman like the one I love, people)

Well, I kiss the ground she walks on

(To make her happy doesn't take a lot)

I'm a lonely man when my baby's gone
