In the tunnel the monsters shed their disguises behind the plastic and show their true selves to intimidate Jade and Tab. Tabitha is freaked out; Jade tells her to ignore them and put the bones in the bag. She complies. Above Boyd is getting everyone in place. Kristi asks what if they can’t get the tree out and he tells her there’s no Plan B. Below Jade confess he lied. The bones will not stop the monsters from coming in. (BRO!!?!) He lied to make Boyd okay with the plan. He tells Tab she needs to “break this fucking cycle.” He tells her to go up the rope ladder with the bones. He’s gonna “slow them down”. Jade tells Tabitha if he got to spend all of his lifetimes with anyone, he’s glad he got to spend them with her. Jade sends the signal. The truck powers forward. The tree is moving, the truck is struggling. The children hopes are being ripped up.

Below Cowboy tears the plastic away and moves towards Jade and Tabitha. “It’s nice, all of us being together again”, says Cowboy. The tree pulls away and sunlight enters the chamber. Cowboy and the cheerleader wince. The monsters back away from the light. “They can’t come into the light, Jade!”, Tabitha exclaims. Above, the tree finally falls over. Boyd and the others rush to throw down the rope ladder. Jade tells Tab they’re both leaving after discovering the monsters can’t stand the light. Tabitha climbs first; the rope breaks thanks to It sabotaging the rope. Tab falls back down into the chamber. Above the sky suddenly turns dark. (Uh oh! An eclipse or the “spider”?) in the chamber the monsters transform, happy now the sun has been put away. They advance on Jade and Tab. The others ask Boyd what is going on. (How the hell should he know?) he doesn’t know. Just as the monsters are about to attack Jade and Tab the chamber starts to crumble, stopping the monsters’ advance.

At the station, Kenny and Victor react to the earthquake with Victor demanding to be let out. Kenny opens his door. Victor yells at Kenny, “I told you not to pull down the tree, why don’t you listen?” In the chamber, Jade and Tabitha brace themselves as the earthquake finally stops. The cheerleader rushes towards them once again. As the monsters move in, the exit is left unmanned. Jade and Tabitha are able to rush out of the chamber.

Boyd yells down to see if they are okay. The monsters are screeching and Sara grabs the bones. Boyd wants Acosta to get the chain from the truck to go down there. Of course this causes a litany of “you can’t go down there!!” But Fish and Loaves is set on it. (Please someone talk him off the ledge!) they plead with Boyd “we need to go now!” But Boyd is not leaving without them. (Dude has a serious Superman complex. See this is what Jade was talking about. He’s risking everyone’s lives for 2 people. Stop, Boyd!) Kristi lets him know exactly that: if they don’t leave now they lose everyone one.

While Boyd loses his marbles once again the creatures have come above ground and are advancing on the group. Believe it or not Boyd is still debating on going down there for Kade and Tabitha. They are yelling at Boyd. (Damn man, leave!) he finally tells everyone to get in the cars. Patty is frozen in fear. (Poor woman she barely survived the last attacks) she stands trembling and crying. Boyd ever the marine, goes back for her and gets her to the van. Boyd shoots at the monsters. Of course this does nothing. Wtf Patty get your ass in! *facepalms* I would’ve left her ass.

Below Jade and Tab rush through the tunnels with the cheerleader hot on their tails. No more exits; Tab and Jade are trapped. Cowboy tries to come into the space to attack them and the earthquake starts again. Cowboy retreats.

In the van, Patty yells at Acosta to hurry up. Acosta does not like this backseat driving. She tells Boyd to shut her up. (Boyd is not the right one to calm her rn he just had to be talked out of something stupid. There are other people in that van why is it always on Boyd? Shit. ) he tells her to take deep breaths. Patty says it doesn’t matter they made things worse; the place is angry and now they’ll be punished. Patty tells Boyd he’s a liar and he promised they’d go home. “I can’t do this! I don’t wanna be here anymore!” A monster pops out of nowhere and beats the on the van scaring Patty more. Boyd leans forward to say something upfront and Patty takes his gun and tries to shoot herself and shoots the windows instead. (They should’ve left her ass being with a hysterical person in a high pressure situation is like trying to save a drowning person. she’s freaking out the other people. I wish Boyd would knock her wild ass out shit!)

At the clinic, Mari and Fatima quibble about doing something vs waiting. Now it’s dark do what Fatima? Fatima tries to go out anyway (I needs a drink smh) Mari says she’s in no shape to go out. Fatima wants to know what shape is she in? At that moment Fatima has a vision: she sees the monsters heading for the clinic. It’s Smiley. Mari looks out and sure enough it’s him. Fatima and Mari discover that the talisman was knocked off the wall in the quake. They frantically look for it. Mari finds it.

Mari and Fatima run in another room and quickly hang it. Smiley walks through the door ignoring it. Calls Fatima “mother”. Mari pulls out a knife on Smiley. He gets mad, transforms and slashes her stomach open with his talons. Her guts spill out (that’s so cool! Gore yay!) Fatima gets mad and shrieks at Smiley, a loud angry shriek. Mari looks in disbelief at her hanging guts. Smiley changes back to human form and says “Interesting”, with a smile and leaves. Fatima stopped him like before. She is his mother through Martin’s worms. (And apparently monsters have visions and that’s how they know things. Here I thought it was the crows. Ha! Ha!)

Mari sinks to ground trying to hold her innards in. Kristi is gonna be devastated. Mari wants Fatima to stay away from her. She asks for Kristi.

Kristi sees Smiley walking back from the clinic. Kristi rushes in and sees Mari in a pool of blood. Mari asks to kiss Kristi goodbye. They kiss and she dies. Kristi holds her and tells her she loves her.

At the diner, It offers Elgin the same thing It offered Clara; a chance to go home in exchange for helping It. Elgin turns to look at Clara and it says not to do that. To just look at It It tells Elgin that it is dark outside because they’re close to the end and that it gets “messy” at the end.

Elgin doesn’t want the offer and this makes It mad. Tells Elgin that there’s nowhere for him to hide. It asks for Elgin’s hands and asks one last time to accept the bargain. Elgin starts praying. It brings Elgin to his knees as it holds his hands and he bleeds from his mouth and eyes and dies. It tells Clara to get rid of the body while it “lights the match and watch it burn”.

At colony house, Henry tries to convince himself nothing is real there. Donna thinks she should go to the station to see Victor but Henry declines. Henry finds Victor’s bullets and asks Donna about it. She tells him Victor used to carry around a gun in his lunchbox and Boyd took it away. She tells him it’s at the sheriffs station. Donna tells Henry to go see him once again.

Boyd is at the clinic. He asks Randall what happened. Fatima tells Ellis what happened w/o telling him she stopped Smiley. Boyd sees Kristi. She’s still holding Mari’s body. Boyd comforts Kristi while she wails in sorrow.

At the former faraway tree, lightning shoots out of the hole twice and shoots up the sky. Then continues. Everyone comes out to watch the lightning. Red lightning.

The van pulls up without Jade and Tab. Julie and Ethan are shaken.

It goes to church. Sees the talisman and puts it in its purse.

At the station Henry calls out names to see if they answer while, he looks for the gun. He finds it as soon as Kenny walks in. Kenny didn’t see this.

Back at the house Ethan asks if Tab is really dead. The cabinets starts to open and close and glasses start flying across the room. They run out of the kitchen. Ethan tells Julie she’s gonna die, everyone is gonna die then he’ll be alone and he doesn’t want that. (Uh oh. The story of the finger puppets. Julie is “Norman”) Julie talks to him and calms him down.

At the station, Boyd agrees with Victor that they shouldn’t have gone down there. Acosta walks in and says that they need to go back down there. She tells Boyd that he told people the bones were the key to getting out of there and they can’t just leave them there. Boyd tells Acosta they don’t know how to use the bones if they had them. Only Jade and Tabitha knew. (They don’t know either.)Kenny asks if there’s any chance if they’re still alive and Boyd says no. One way in and one way out. (is this how they die? They are presumed dead and when they come back the townspeople kill them?) Boyd asks Acosta how do they move forward. Boyd goes on another rant. Sara yells to interrupt him. Something is coming in over the radio. Morse code. Boyd looks. It’s Jade and Tabitha still in the tunnel sending code. The battery dies. (The place has impeccable timing)

In the tunnel Tabitha yells Jade “we’re not dying here”. She tries to break the thick sticks forming a gate over the exit. (Gotta love the optimism!) Jade tells her she can’t break them. “But we can dig until we get under them”, Tab replies. Jade thinks it’s “worth a shot”. They start digging. Tab thanks him for what he was willing to do earlier. (sacrifice himself)

At the clinic, Randall and Ellis carry Mari’s body outside with Kristi and Fatima following. Kristi goes with Mari’s body and Randall to the church. Boyd gestures towards Ellis and Fatima to talk. “Come”. He tells them about the signal over the radio. Boyd says he’s going back to find out. Ellis says he’s going with him, Fatima wants to go too. What if they are both hurt?, Boyd says. What if it’s a trick from the monsters? they ask Boyd. (Mr. Fish and Loaves thinks he can do anything, even now when he knows nothing. Hope he doesn’t get someone killed. Or Ellis. It’s his biggest fear.) Fatima says she can feel them when they’re close. Ellis is stunned and upset at this confession. She sensed Smiley before she saw him and if she goes with them she can warn Boyd.

It enters the station. No one answers. It takes the talisman and leaves.

At CH, Henry loads the gun. Victor visits him. Victor tells Henry that, “today was scary and nothing like that had ever happened before.” He wants to know why Henry is sitting alone. Wants to know if he did something wrong. Victor sits down. He said Henry was happy. Then he told him about the MiY and ruined it. Henry says he didn’t ruin it, it was never real and pulls out the gun. Henry tells Victor about the other place and Victor’s son. Henry says he’s seen what’s real and he needs to go back. He aims the gun at Victor and continues talking about what he saw in the other place and how happy Victor was. Victor tells him “something here has lied to you.” Henry tells him he is sorry and before he can pull the trigger, Ethan interrupts. Startled Henry turns and points the gun at Ethan. Victor quickly springs into action when he sees this. He knocks the gun out of Henry’s hand, pushes him back on the bed and yells at him, demands to know why he’s doing this. “You said you would protect me! Why would you come here to do this? Why?” Ethan looks on, upset.

It enters the bar and takes the talisman. Outside the bar, Clara walks up and gives her a bag of talismans that she collected.

At the tunnel entrance, Boyd makes Ellis and Fatima promise that if anything goes wrong in the tunnels to run. They promise (more like lie) They enter the tunnels.

At the exit gate, Jade and Tab’s hands are getting tired. Tab suggests using the bones to dig. Boyd, Fatima and Ellis move through the tunnels. Fatima tells them to stop and a monster screeches. It passes their location off screen. They continue. Jade picks up a bone. Says it’s hard to believe this is real that the bones were once children. Jade takes the bone and digs. Tab picks up a half skull missing the lower jawbone (looks like a doll got to that child. Yikes.) and holds it. As she’s looking at it, the anghkooey music begins to play and it is the same tune that little Jade played. She had a flashback to one of the little girls that appeared to her before. Tab realizes she is holding half of her skull and is overcome with emotion. “This was her!”, she exclaims, while Jade looks on. Both groups hear the monsters screech. Fatima says the monsters know where Jade and Tab are and they need to hurry.

Jade and Tab haven’t dug deep enough and the monsters are closing in. (Won’t another earthquake just happen again?) Jade gets mad and starts kicking at the thick wooden bars. Boyd and co follow the thud of Jade’s kicks and finally get to them…on the other side of the bars. Fatima says they’re getting close. Boyd and Ellis both take a big rock and start hitting at the wooden bars. (Why isn’t Fatima stopping them? She knows she can) Boyd takes out his gun to shoot at the bars. That works! 2 of the bars fall, a hole big enough for Jade and Tab to wiggle through. The bones go first, Tab goes through, then Jade. They are all together now.

Fatima announces, “they’re here.” She tells the group she can buy them time. Ellis says “the fuck you talking about?”Fatima tells Ellis to remember who she was. (They took the life out of her, the one thing she said she wouldn’t let them do. She’s walking dead now anyway) “No”, Ellis says. Fatima nods, “yes”. Fatima turns around to face the monsters. She transforms into one of them. Ellis looks on in horror and tries to go to her but Boyd holds him back and drags him out of the tunnel.

It meets up with BiW in the forest. They walk together. “Look at you all grown up”, It says. “but the bottle tree is gone”, BiW says, as they come to a faraway tree. (Victor is gonna be MAD. He thought MiY was his friend too. There’s still something weird about Victor.) BiW tells It, “you’re gonna lose this time”. (The cosmic fight of Good and Evil with mankind in the middle as pawns) It smiles. “I’ve always admired your optimism. I guess we’ll see.” It takes the bag of talismans off its’ shoulder and drops it through the faraway tree. BiW doesn’t try to stop it in fact the twerp stands there with his hands at his side. It pours the talismans down the tree’s throat. Where they end up, who knows?

What happens to Fatima’s dirt monster?

Tab tells Boyd at the station about what MiY did and said. Said he walked in her house in broad daylight with a talisman on the door. Tells Boyd he killed Jim. Boyd is shook. Jade bursts in as usual. (The man is a tornado) he says he understands Boyd’s concerns and he’ll go down into the tunnels. Boyd agrees; Jade is confused. Boyd tells him MiY is back and Boyd wants to get those bones. (MiY knew Tab would tell him.) MiY is in the woods. He changes back into Sophia. (Who was Sophia?)

It walks up to Elgin and a Colony Houser at the flag pole and It asks what they are doing. They are taking the rope off the flagpole to make a rope ladder. Elgin tells It about the tunnels and who is going down there. It feigns concern. Elgin invites It to come by later. (\*sigh\*)

Clara goes to check the shed. It asks to help. It is ramping up the plan. It asks Clara if she knows who it really is, tells Clara to look closer. It pulls the glasses off. Clara is uneasy. “Does this help?”, it asks. Its eyes turn black. Clara gasps in recognition. It asks Clara: “Do you remember the bargain we made?”, and Clara nods in the affirmative. (Wow Clara really?) It needs Clara to do something for it.

At the clinic, Kristi is thumbing through the medicine cabinet. Mari gave Fatima a puzzle to keep her busy told her it was a cognitive test. Kristi goes to talk to Boyd. She tells Mari if Fatima heart stops to give her the epinephrine shot. Tells Mari to be careful because they don’t know what Fatima’s condition means yet. (When is Mari careful?)

It and Clara go to Sara’s house. It calls out for her; no answer. It sees a knife in the coffee table and picks it up. It puts the knife behind its back so Clara can’t see. It cheerfully tells Clara “let’s go to my room”. Scared, Clara obliges. It tells Clara about Sara painting the room for it. It is not fond of the color. It closes the door. Beckons Clara to come sit by it on the bed. Tells her not to be scared. It reminds Clara about their bargain when Clara first came there and reiterated that it would need Clara’s help. Clara tells it that she questioned if that day was real and was it really gonna let her go home. It says “first you have to help me with something” Clara asks if it wants the digging for the bones to stop. “Oh no!” It exclaims. It says when they go into the tunnel it won’t work out well. Says they have the right idea but the place is built on rituals. “With rituals”, It explains, “how you do something is as important as what you do”. Clara asks what does it need from her. It asks if she likes games. Clara nervously says yes. It says it loves games and it’s playing so many rn. But there’s one or two that’s need a little push to speed things up a bit. It takes the knife and cuts its hand. Then asks for Clara’s hand. It cuts Clara’s hand and then tells her “this next part will feel strange”, and puts It’s bloody hand over Clara’s cut. Tells Clara to relax. It tells Clara to let her in.

Donna, Kenny, Boyd and Jade strategize at the greenhouse. Boyd says once the group in the tunnels have the bones then they pull the tree and they help pull them up with the rope ladder that is being built. Donna asks how will the group protect itself while they’re digging? Kenny says they’ll cover the tunnel entrance with tarp. Donna stares at him incredulously. Kenny explains that they’ll hang a talisman on it and it should work as good as hanging it on a wall. Donna questions if the talismans will even work down there. Says the tree acts as a window (hmm…) if they pull it out they’re coming inside and people will get “slaughtered”. Jade says once the bones come out of the ground they’ll keep the chamber safe he felt it on the trip. The bones will keep the monsters out of the chamber. Donna asks what next? We don’t know Boyd replies. Not good enough for Donna. Kristi asks Boyd to talk. She tells Boyd about Fatima.

At CH, Henry is asking about the carousel horse. Henry is back in the home. Victor is with him in the lunchroom. Victor brought him the cheese he likes. Victor asks him if he thought about what Dr Boyd said. Victor tells him the sheriff’s name is Boyd. Says Henry mumbles. Victor starts naming Fromland names he’s heard Henry say them all. Victor asks about the “anchor” Henry tells him Victor is the anchor. Victor tells him held not that “broken boy” and that world is not real. Henry has to accept it’s a dream and that it’s not real and then he’ll be able to kill Fromland Victor. Henry yells out and finds himself back in CH with Victor asking what’s wrong. Henry leaves.

Boyd is filled in about Fatima. Kristi asks Boyd what to do. He says he doesn’t know. He grabs his tremor hand and sits down. Kristi tells him to do better than that. Boyd then begins to yell “I can’t -“ but catches himself. (He’s getting more and more irritable. That’s not good at all and Kristi how’s he supposed to know what to do about a zombie?? Come on girl!) Kristi mentions talking to Ellis and Boyd is absolutely against that. Boyd tells her to bring supplies to the Bottle Tree and let Mari stay with Fatima. He doesn’t know what shape people are gonna be in when they leave the tunnel.

At the house, Tab tells Julie and Ethan that MiY was in the house. Tells her what happened at the RV. Julie asks if he killed Jim and is that what “knowledge comes at a cost”, means. She nods. Julie is angry she wants to know who is gonna die next because they (Tabitha and Jade) are gonna keep looking. Tab said she not gonna let that happen. Julie believes the place is twisting Tab and making her believe she is “some ancient savior” (pointed choice of words). Julie tells them she saw MiY in the street eating a bunch of dead people (Okay it’s time for Julie to walk down Main Street and find her marker where she dropped it. ) she thinks she was just giving herself seizures. Julie asks Tab about the talisman. Asks her how it works. Tab doesn’t know. To Julie, this proves her point that it’s not real. (Come on go outside Julie you’re gonna eat those words) (This “it’s not real” stuff is getting infectious. Are factions are forming? the “it’s real” vs the “not reals”) Julie says the place lies to them so they hurt each other.

At the clinic, Clara nervously pushed her hand to make it bleed more then pours the blood into Fatima’s drink she “made” for her. Fatima drinks it after Clara tells her it’s a mixture of berries. Then she leaves.

Victor goes to Miranda and Eloise’s graves. Tells her he doesn’t know what to think anymore. Tells her about Tabitha. That if she’s Tabitha then she’s not with Eloise. She’s. It even there (in the ground). Victor is lost. Talks about the state Henry is in and he doesn’t know if Henry will make it long enough to go home. Victor doesn’t know what to say or do. BiW appears. (Here’s hoping he’ll be helpful). Victor tells him to go away. BiW asks him if he knows what the others are doing and that they’re gonna pull down the bottle tree. (What if that’s keeping the red spider away? If it “came down from the ceiling”, the ceiling being where the Bottle Tree was ripped out, and made everyone scream like Ethan’s dream?) BiW tells Victor the tree is important and he can’t let that happen.

Boyd is at the church. He’s talking to God. He says he’s not here for him. Says “I don’t fuckin’ like you. I think I’ve made that pretty clear” (where’s Khatri?) Boyd says he’s made peace with “whatever shit” God has planned for him. He’s there for his son and Fatima. Boyd angry pleads. Tells God whatever He has against him there are good people there, get them home. Sara walks in. Kristi told her they Boyd wanted to talk to her. He tells Sara not to repeat what is said. (How much you wanna bet she tells It?”) Of course she says. He tells her about Fatima. Boyd says, “when Fatima went missing, you came to me and said the voices were laughing, because they knew I couldn’t save her.” “We found her”, says Boyd. “She’s okay. The voices were wrong”. Sara sighs. “We saved her didn’t we?” “I don’t know”, says Sara. She says she’s coming with him tomorrow.

Tab sits in the porch with the talisman. Ethan comes out. He asks if that was really Jim. Jim told him to find the Lake of Tears and that’s why they went to the settlement then bad things happened. Was it really Jim? Tan doesn’t know. Ethan says the place tries to make them afraid so they won’t believe in the things that can help them. He tells her to listen to what the memories are trying to tell her. “Don’t be scared to believe”, says Ethan. Suddenly children appear in the street and one by one they start pointing towards Tab and Ethan. Then they were gone. Tab looks at the talisman (seems like the children were pointing at it) while Ethan asks what’s wrong.

Jade hooks up the radio. They can do Morse code to communicate. Victor bursts in to ask about the Bottle Tree. He tells them they can’t rip it out because BiW said so. Boyd questions this: “why doesn’t he come in here and tell us? Why doesn’t he help us?” Victor thinks BiW is his friend. (He’s no one’s friend) Boyd tells Victor, “there are things here that play games with us and I think this little boy is one of those things. (What if it’s BiW & Victor “playing games?”) Victor tells Boyd he can’t do this. Victor vows to stop them. Boyd tries to calm
Him. Boyd grabs him and Kenny helps. “NOOO IM TRYING TO HELP YOU!!!”, Victor screams. The residents look on. Tabitha sees and tries to help Victor. Boyd fills her in. Tab agrees that they don’t know who the boy is or what he wants. Tab tells Boyd that she needs to be the one in the tunnels. (Hooo boy, confusion, confusion!) Boyd tells her they got plenty of people already. Tab objects. Says it needs to be just her and Jade because they are the ones that failed to save the children. That the children are the ones calling to the two of them over and over again. Shows Boyd the talisman. Two people on it. Asks Boyd who does he think those people are. He asks about Julie and Ethan. Tab says the way they do this matters.

Boyd rings the bell.

Boyd tells It to get inside. It tells Boyd she’s going to the diner to help with the rope ladder. Boyd thanks her. Yuck.

At the diner, It pushes buttons on the mini jukebox (I’m surprised it’s not on it looks fully dark outside.) Bakta tells It by buttons are “just for show”. It pushes a button and it comes on Bakta wants to know how It did that. It feigns confusion. Monsters start screeching over the jukebox. It looks pleased with itself. (I know It is putting a vulnerability in the rope ladder). The monsters (1920’s nurse, milkman and ) stroll up to the diner window. Asks Patty “what are you guys doin’ in there?” Bakta tells her to ignore them. Sure enough It pulls out a big ass knife and starts slicing the rope. Acosta tells them to close the blinds.

Fatima wakes up in pain. Her hair is falling out. She moans and looks at her stomach.

At the station, Boyd tells Kenny he can’t come tomorrow. Tells him he’s needed to help Donna in case things go wrong. Boyd stood down now he’s asking Kenny. Kenny reluctantly says “okay”. They drink the last of Khatri’s stash. They toast to better days.

Next day. Ethan asks Tab can’t someone else go in the tunnels? Tab tells him the bones will protect them. He asks how. Jade says it’s just the way they work. Tab hugs Ethan. Tells him to be strong. The rat looks on worryingly. Jade tells Tab she’s lucky because no one tried to tell him out of it. The radios are online. Jade and Tab enter the tunnel.

Back at the diner, Elgin looks through old pictures. He sees something. Meanwhile It plays with a toy boat. No one notices “Sophia’s” odd behavior I mean why wouldn’t they, right? Clara enters the diner and tells It things changed. It’s just Tab and Jade in the tunnels. It does not like this at all. It puts down the fireman’s hat. (A child’s toy or was a fireman really there? Anyway). It’s mad. Tells Clara she should have told It sooner. Clara just found out she says. And like Satan’s best imp she ran right over. She still gets to go home right? Elgin enters. He shows “Sophia” the picture. The real Sophia is in the background. Elgin says it looks just like “her”. It replies “that’s because it is me”. Elgin doesn’t understand. It tells Clara to lock the doors. Clara locks the doors. It tells Elgin it can only take the form of people that die there. (Oh Elgin it was nice knowing you bro!) It tells Elgin it really wishes he hadn’t seen that. (Looks like It doesn’t control everything there. It has to be informed of things.) It grabs Elgin’s arm.

In the tunnels, Jade and Tab prepare. They tape the plastic to the wall. Outside Sara hears the Morse code. “They’re in the chamber!”, she yells. The people get into action. Kristi starts up the truck.

Back in the chamber. Jade and Tab begin to dig. The monsters hear and wake up. They look delighted. Jade and Tab furiously dig. Jade’s shovel hits something. Bones. The monsters slowly advance. Jade and Tab grab the crowbars to open the tomb. The top moves. They keep going. The smiles disappear off the monsters faces. They get the top off. The bones of the children.
