I used about a ton, literally, of rocks and pebbles for the 2 bog filters. As you know, they are super dirty and silty in those 0.5 cu ft bags. I figured I'd share another redneck solution, if you ever come into this situation.

I did another redneck solution. Since the bottom drain is not accessible cuz it is under water pointing into pond. With half a ton of various rocks and pebbles, how to get the muck out? Bless 3D printers!

Putting this Aiptasia bowl on my desk 4 years ago was one of the best decisions ever! So calming.

Slushii graduated to 2 live worms now. Thank goodness the time where I had to cut them to tiny pieces is over! I still feel bad for the worms tho lol.

If you saw my previous post with the Aiptasia bowl, this is an offshoot from it. I took one of the rocks from the bowl and started a 10 gallon tank.

I added more dry rocks, pool filter sand, a bubble stone and an extra pump to get the water moving better since these guys are filter feeders and catch food from water flowing by. There are also bristle worms, spirorbis worms and tube worms.

The new barnacles seem to have settled in pretty well. All 9 are still around.

Though the rightmost new one that is positioned weirdly on that snail shell tip keeps his legs curled up at their ends. I wonder if it's a molt problem or there's something odd happening with him. Guess I'll have to wait until the next molt.

Husband surprised me today. Pond needs more shade. Damn umbrellas keep flying away. Bridge will do :).

2g (7.5L) Cookie Jar

I have basically no experience and I just started a saltwater reef in a cookie jar. Day 2 update inside.

I saw a pico reef build on Instagram and thought “how hard can it be.” Two weeks later I’m standing in my Amsterdam apartment watching a 7.5L cookie jar cycle on my desk.

Live rock and sand straight from my local reef shop, pre-mixed saltwater, a clip-on LED, a nano air pump, and a tiny heater. That’s it.

Day 1 the water turned completely white and my pH crashed to 7.6. Turned out I had the lid on with no surface agitation — air pump fixed it overnight and pH is back to 8.2.

Ammonia just hit 0.50 ppm this week so the cycle is officially doing its thing. Plan is soft corals and LPS once it’s done — zoanthids, mushrooms, maybe a duncan.

After a flood event washed mud in the pond and ruined my pump, I got a stronger pump and build this big filter contraption. It ain’t pretty but I am starting to see fish again! I have a 2nd tub lined up if needed.

All 9 barnacles are out for feeding time after a water change.

I moved the snail shell ones closer so they can interact.

I finally got around putting up the axolotl cam. I’ll ask Claude later if and how to stream it online.
