My digital legacy app just went live. It lets your family keep talking to you after you’re gone.

I lost my uncle to violence in Nigeria a few years back. Before he died he sent me a voice note of encouragement, and I still have it, but it’s frozen. It can’t answer anything I ask it now.
EchoVault is my attempt to fix that. You do guided check-in sessions with an AI biographer that draws your actual stories out of you, and over time it builds an Echo that talks the way you talk and knows what you’d say. Most things in this space build an avatar from a few minutes of uploaded footage. This works the other way around, so the Echo can answer questions you never explicitly answered because it’s learned how you actually think.
Every response is grounded in something you really said, which means it won’t invent memories you never had.
Text is free forever with unlimited check-ins and no card. $12/mo adds your real cloned voice. There’s a $99.99 one-time setup for a lifelike video avatar that includes 3 months of live video, then $18/mo after that. The video tier is a live face to face conversation, not a rendered clip.
You name custodians up front. If a full year passes with no activity on your account, your Echo transfers to them automatically. No paperwork for a grieving family to figure out.
I shipped text, voice, and real-time video together in June 2025, which as far as I know made this the first digital legacy product where all three worked at once.
iPhone, iOS 15.1+: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/echovault-digital-legacy/id6762042028
Built solo, nights only. Happy to answer anything. Will appreciate any feedback too, thanks

Black Mirror - Quiet jarring, yet reflective piece of work

I've been following this TV series for a while. And, more than the idea of dystopian future, realizations of the characters, there's another, very important concept quiet literally in the title - Black Mirror.

This show acts as a subtle mirror towards the audience as well. The feelings, anger, hatred one might feel through the episodes of this series, often went unnoticed for myself, but I was able to observe it for the characters. After the introduction to Vedanta, I've started catching that aspect of the life as well, even while consuming content, and, especially this series is directed with that in mind.

Demon 79 is perhaps the best Black Mirror story of all time, and also probably the most misunderstood.

A lot of people were put-off with the ambiguous nature of the story. Was Nida really crazy or was Gaap the Demon-intern making her do the murders? Did the nuclear attack really happen in the end, or was it just a figment of Nida's imagination?

These questions are great, however they seem to miss the fact that the ambiguity IS the main point of the story. This episode brilliantly uses it to drive home the main message of this story.

To establish the ambiguity it gives us evidence of Nida's descent into madness - her loneliness, the racism around her, a possible brain disease she genetically inherited from her mother - all are presented as possible causes.

However the story also provides evidences, sometimes subtle and sometimes not, about the supernatural element as well. Nida is an Islamic immigrant living in England in 1979. Now ancient Persia (now Iran) had of the myth of the Djinn, an entity which famously grants three wishes when the user encounters it's associated talisman (wishes would be with or without loopholes depending on the iteration of the story). It is therefore not far fetched to think that Nida inherited a generationally passed-down talisman from her mother, used it to summon Gaap -  an evil alternate version of the Djinn, who demands three kills to prevent eternal doom, instead of granting three wishes to achieve eternal glory. We outright see how Gaap helps her choose her targets, and keeps her on her path to 'save humanity' by giving her accurate butterfly-effect consequences of her present decisions.

This established ambiguity is critical to drive home the point of the story, that it does not matter if she's crazy, or there's a supernatural entity - a devil on her shoulder - making her do the murders. It does not matter if a nuclear attack really happened or not. What matters is how we - the audience - react when we see what she does. We applaud her when she delivers justice to the paedophile and the wife murderer. We support her in her endeavour to kill the racist-in-sheep-skin politician. We even take guilty pleasure in her killing the brother of the wife-murderer - who symbolically represents the apathetic society that turns a blind eye to criminals among its own. And when she fails to kill the last person, the World itself is burned, as if to symbolise that a World without justice is a world that should not exist. The story is ultimately a reflection on how the human consciousness craves for freedom, justice and equality. Does it really matter whether it is delivered by a crazy person, or by an agent of Divine Retribution?

That's why it's perhaps the best Black Mirror story of all time. No other story holds up the 'Mirror' to society as well as this one.

Fifteen Million Merits is timeless and the true first episode of Black Mirror

I think National Anthem was a terrible first episode because not only is it the weakest episode in Season One, but I feel it does a terrible job of giving the viewer a feel or idea of what this series is like or really about.

Fifteen Million Merits is the first true episode of black mirror because not only is it a great episode, but it does an excellent job of establishing what this series is like and about.

I'm actually shocked this episode was from 2011 and is 15 years old! It truly feels timeless and the only thing I think dates it in anyway is the American Idol type talent TV show which is no longer a "star maker" or as prominent compared to other outlets now like social media platforms where you create and upload your own content rather than auditioning on a TV show.

Nosedive

I recently watched this episode with my 78 year old mother (I've been trying to show her the somewhat more positive episodes!) and she laughed at the end, you know, when they were shouting "f... you!" at each other! I did not expect her to love the episode so much.

She has seen this episode and USS Callister. Which episode should I show her next? (apart from Eulogy, my father recently passed away)

Dream Scenario starring Nic Cage

So I just watched this new A24 feature film... And the ending (without sharing any spoilers) made me feel like the entire movie could have been an episode of the Black Mirror which would make (IMO) way more sense in terms of the storyline "getting drown out/dragged out" when it really didn't have to since it didn't add much value to the entirety of the plot...

Have you watched this yet? If so do you agree that it would have made an amazing BM episode (if done by Charlie Brooker)?

Frustrated by one aspect of Blank Museum

I understand Carrie and Jack were kind of a rushed couple.

I understand the baby moved things along fast for them.

I understand Carrie had a VERY strong personality and that she was miserable in a coma.... understandable totally.

But holy shit......to live in someone else's head?

My husband and I of over a decade, when we watched it, we just looked at each other and unanimously agreed we'd never say yes to that. The conflict potential is endless. The issues we see play out seemed obvious.

I understand Carrie was desperate to live again and see her boy, and that Rolo preyed on their vulnerability, but holy Jesus no IDC how close I am to someone, please don't put me in their head or vice versa.

Fuck Rolo eternally, btw.

Charlie Brooker is an effing genius...

Literally like a quarter of these episodes should be full-length movies, and the other 75% works so fucking perfect for the show.

Sorry.

I'm drinking and I've almost finished the entire series.

I always hate shows I feel like I could write myself. I could never write this show.

Ever.

Wow.

After finally watching Black Mirror I can say that I feel it's the only modern anthology series that is great or even comes close to matching the quality of the original Twilight Zone.

I'm a huge fan of the original Twilight Zone and despite that show ending decades before I was born I feel it is still a timeless show that still holds up even today. This year I watched the Jordan Peele 2019 TZ reboot and to say I was disappointed would be an understatement. I could not believe how terrible the episodes were with how poorly written and heavy handed they were and it was even more unacceptable to me because unlike other anthology shows Twilight Zone is pretty open with the types of stories you can tell. There's fantasy, science fiction, romance, Western, even realistic morality type stories ect! And yet the remake was a complete dud while Black Mirror which is much more limited and restricted to just technology based stories somehow managed to surpass the 2019 TZ reboot and I'd even go as far as to say Black Mirror is the only anthology show that can compete with the original Twilight Zone.

As a newbie to Black Mirror I'm just really impressed to finally find a series that matches the original Twilight Zone in terms of high quality thought provoking episodes. I read Charlie Brooker was a huge TZ fan and considered it a big influence on BM so I feel he'd be happy to see fans like me compare his series favorably to the original TZ. Anyone else feel the same way about Black Mirror and Twilight Zone?

Fixed that other meme

I always get kinda shocked at the Verity glazing lol and wanted to give my two cents real quick

First off, I was also bullied as a teenager. I had literally 0 friends from middle to high school and did literally everything alone, like lunch, walking home, etc. I get really shocked seeing other people discussing how they were bullied and how that makes them sympathize so much with Verity. While I can understand sympathizing SOMEWHAT with her, I also feel like there's so much hypocrisy in how people go about the premise in this episode.

We all get that Maria did something bad first, and the argument is that it doesn't matter that she did that as a kid because she is clearly still a bad person as an adult as she tries to undermine Verity and also her final wish to be empress of the universe also clearly shows that Maria is an immature, self centered, and egotistical person who didn't grow at all. Fine, fair enough, I'm not Maria fan #1, and this post isn't about defending Maria.

However, people who say that then turn around and don't apply the same logic to Verity - I feel like people always excuse what Verity does because "she has trauma" - but she literally also got to experience EVERYTHING EVER, she has the experience and knowledge that only a god should have, yet she chooses to be as petty as to use this to torture her childhood enemies, which at this point, are analogous to ants to a god. I feel like you really can't get any more immature and malicious than that, and I find it vastly more sociopathic than Maria's relatively normal human levels of pettiness that she treats Verity with.

Again, I don't think Maria is a good person. She is a bully and a bad person. But Verity has essentially become a self made god and thinks the best use of her powers is to torture what amounts to lesser beings who are vastly less capable, knowledgeable, and powerful as her which feels as sociopathic as it gets, and it blows my mind that anyone is "you go girl!"-ing her as a way to soothe their own childhood revenge fantasies.

TLDR I get that people want bad people to suffer consequences but like... anyone rooting for Verity who sees Maria as somehow worse needs to seriously think about what constitutes cruel and unjust punishment.
