Artists whose careers declined badly after only one album (personal opinion).

Hey everyone—before you tell me Maroon 5 sucks, I *know*. Some people like them, but for most, it’s just about their radio hits or being sick of how overplayed their songs are. But strangely enough—and I say this from personal experience—*Songs About Jane* is undoubtedly (and unanimously) the only good thing they’ve ever done. I think it had a blend of organic elements—funk, groove, rock, and touches of pop—that was far superior to what they do now. Plus, like I said, it’s an album I absolutely loved and used to have on repeat as a teenager. I stopped listening after that—let's just say I realized how pathetic Adam Levine was. I suppose that hatred, combined with the fact that they essentially started churning out shitty songs—even if tracks like "Payphone" and "Sugar" have a bit of nostalgia—turned me off. Nowadays, I feel like it’s basically just Adam Levine and his friends.

To each their own, of course. Like I said, I stopped listening after the first album, and when I gave them another chance later on, their sound struck me as similar to Imagine Dragons—which is not a compliment thought everybody could give they opinions.

My First and Last Ozzfest (2004 and 2010 - both in Camden, NJ)

With Ozzfest all but confirmed to return as a one-day festival at Aston Villa Football Club in Birmingham, UK, I think back to how many incredible lineups I saw at Ozzy's traveling festival between 2004 and 2010 (the only one between those years I didn’t go to was 2008's one day event in Texas).

My very first Ozzfest was in 2004 at the then Tweeter Center in Camden, NJ (Aug. 26) I'll never forget how blown away I was by both Judas Priest and Slayer. The highlight of the night, though, was when Bill Ward came out and delivered the unfortunate news that Ozzy was ill and couldn't perform that evening. After a few seconds of boos, the crowd became stunned when Ward announced that Black Sabbath would be performing with Rob Halford filling in. What proceeded was an amazing and historical set - with Halford absolutely crushing Ozzy-era classics.

6 years later I'd attend my last Ozzfest at the same venue (rebranded to Susquehanna Bank Center). Ironically Halford was playing with his solo band on this tour's edition - but he didn't need to fill in for anyone, as Ozzy closed out the night with a rousing solo set (after Motley Crue played a surprising fun, bare-bones set... well, as bare-bones as a Motley Crue show can be). The highlight of the day, though, was witnessing a tornado briefly blow through - forcing Black Label Society to cancel their second stage headlining set (though somehow not canceling the rest of the day...).

There's a ton more stories I can recall from both metal festivals... but that's for another time 😉

Who was the best band you ever saw play Ozzfest? Favorite lineup? Share in the comments below, and stay tuned for more things to come from this space (including stories from festivals like this)!

Why was Back To The Beginning Never Released?

The entire Back To The Beginning performance with Ozzy and Black Sabbath over a year ago was never officially released on video or as a cd or vinyl, and the only way to watch/listen is through audience recordings. Why is this?

Random post but I bought the Iommi and Ozzys signature colognes. Here are my thoughts.

I somewhat collect nich fragrances and I'm also a huge sabbath fan. I've known about Ozzys signature scent and purchased a bottle a couple years ago. As for the Iommi they came out more recently and just got them.

Attached is the profile image for each and the prince of darkenss version description by Sharon Osbourne

No 88 by Czech and Speake - This scent immediately reminds me of an old school style fragrance not afraid to lean slightly feminine. The floral rose notes really come through all the spice and pine. It's truly a night time evening out style fragrance which smells very sophisticated. I'd imagine a wealthy man in London in the 70s to wear this. I easily got six hours out of three sprays. Three being enough not to spice bomb the room out.

Defied Tony Iommi by Xjeroff - This is a heavy on the leather. I am not huge on very leathery fragrances but some I seem to love (Tom Ford) but this one lands right in the middle. This is very spicy to start off then the dry down turns into a new leather sofa. That sounds bad but not really, the woodyness comes out with a very slight rose note. Almost seems like it would be close to the No 88 but the leather over powers most of the notes to me. Two sprays all that's needed or you'll become a leather couch.

Monkey Special Tony Iommi by Xjeroff - This one is a bit of a turn off at the opening for me. I get blasted with a ton of alcohol and spice. Over powers my senses at first to where It hits like smelling a bottle of rum. The dry down is really where it changes and becomes something wearable. It turns into a woody smell that comes off bold, masculine and "fancy" in a way. I enjoyed it the longer I wore it. Also night time time fragrance as this would be extremely overpowering on a hot day.

<><>><>><>><<><<

Overall my favorite is the No 88 by Czech and Speake. The floral notes on top of the strong masculine musk is really enjoyable. It has longevity and enough sillage to make other people notice but not choke them. I can see how and why Ozzy would make this his signature scent for over 30 years. It's very boutique also as you will not find this in stores at least in the states.

As for the Iommis they are enjoyable but the leather and spice is too much for me to start off. Maybe if it was dulled with some heavier gourmand notes, would have helped this for my tastes. Overall they're both great products and I'm a big fan of Xjeroff's many fragrances and own several. I'd just wear these less often than the No88.

That's it. I'm no writer or professional perfume reviewer. I like sampling different fragrances and I like black sabbath. That is all. Feel free to trash me.

Iommi Monkey - Retail $450 for 3.4oz on discounters for $245

Iommi Defied - Retail $305 for 1.7 oz discounters for $165

No 88 Prince of darkness edition $370 for 3.4oz not available on discounters

Heaven and Hell

i’ve always enjoyed this album but like many was always comparing it to the first 6 albums and never gave it a fair chance. recently been listening to it and my god it’s actually one of the best black sabbath records full stop and this song is somewhere in my top 10 sabbath songs ever. the main riff is so heavy and the way the bar ends with those repeating bass kicks my god brother🤟🏻
