Remnants of blockbuster video

I was at the indian store by my neighborhood the other day which used to be a blockbuster back in the day. They still have the blockbuster banner, brought back some old memories. Good times, just wanted to share for my blockbuster friends.

I made an app inspired by the feeling of browsing video store shelves

Hey everyone. I hope this is okay to share here.

I grew up loving the feeling of walking through video store shelves, browsing covers, seeing Staff Picks, and finding something because it caught your eye instead of because an algorithm pushed it.

I’ve been working on an iPhone/iPad app called Home Video Club that tries to bring a little bit of that feeling back for people who already have their own Plex libraries at home. It turns a personal Plex library into a browsable “video store” with shelves, Staff Picks, curated sections, request cards, member profiles, and a classic store-inspired theme.

It is not affiliated with Blockbuster or Plex. It is just an independent nostalgia project built around the idea that browsing movies should feel fun and physical again.

I’m mainly sharing here because I think this group understands the appeal better than most. I’d love feedback from people who remember the real store experience:

- Does the shelf/storefront idea feel right?
- What would make it feel more like browsing an actual video store?
- Are there details from old rental stores that would be worth recreating?

If links are allowed, the app is called Home Video Club on the App Store. If not, I’m happy to remove the link and just share screenshots/concept discussion.

Thanks for letting me share. I miss the old Friday-night rental run more than I expected.

Blockbuster Music

Anyone have an idea how much this sign may be worth? My mom got it for me off of the store she worked at back in the day when they were bought out by Warehouse Music. I’ve seen some Blockbuster Video signs listed for high prices on EBay, but I don’t know if they actually sell at those prices.

This might be the last movie (I Am Legend) showing a videoclub store filmed while Blockbuster was still in business.

A Blockbuster store list I created, covering all locations worldwide... feel free to add to it!

I started on this list a few years ago but I then abandoned it. I recently dusted it off and since then I've added a whole bunch of stores to the list. I know others have attempted a location list but this is the one I strive to make the most accurate.

3DBlockbuster Panos

I've been working pretty hard on my video store game, and in doing so needed some backgrounds to work off of, so I rendered out these nice panos of the store and thought y'all would appreciate them.

Went home this weekend and look what was in the old family VCR

Bring this back with me so my kids can watch all my old favorites the way I did.

Back then, I didn’t even notice until this South Park episode aired that Blockbuster was getting put out of business because of streaming services. I mean the store in my area was doing just fine.

New puzzle for the game room.

I saw this and knew I needed it. I LOVE all the small details and arrangements. Placing the martial arts posters together is accurate and showing Titanic with Princess Bride was a great pairing.

I forgot about the custom cardboard cutouts and displays they used to have. What I wouldn’t give today to have the Mask or Who Framed Roger Rabbit cutout. How I miss those days.
