Day 18: BND vs. Odyssey

On Day 18, BND made $7.5M, and Odyssey made $9.7

The front-loaded CBM vs. the leggy Nolan IMAX film: Day 18 is when Odyssey first started beating BND in the dailies. I wonder if that’ll eventually start to happen on the same calendar date.

BND was back on top Tuesday, but there'll probably be a few more non-Tuesday, non-holidays where Odyssey beats BND in the dailies.

President Truman in 1952: Socialism is a scare word they have hurled at every advance the people have made in the last 20 years.

Do you ever come across this meme or a variation of it? I had to finally look it up, and it turns out President Truman did actually say it, from the rear platform of a train when he was stumping for Adlai Stevenson.

October 10, 1952, Syracuse, NY.

It was in response to Sen. Taft (27's kid), who accused the New Deal's policies of "creeping socialism."

Truman wasn't advocating for actual socialism, but showing how some politicians fear-monger with that word when they attack public programs and social safety nets that help people.

Taft was not the last Republican to do that. They even cried "socialism" against Sen. and then President Obama.

Potential Legacy Sequels

What potential legacy sequels do you think can really make bank with IP that haven't been tapped yet in years or decades?

I think Cronenberg's The Fly could really benefit from a legacy sequel. I know that film had a sequel 3 years later, and it shouldn't be erased a la Halloween, but maybe still acknowledged.

I'd personally like a legacy sequel to Showtime's Psycho IV, but as a Universal theatrical, who knows how it would do. I could see it being a good film but hardly making more than $40M domestically. Maybe Blumhouse does it with Universal, with Oz Perkins attached.

Also a legacy sequel to The Color of Money where Tom Cruise now takes on the Paul Newman role. Might be a rare trilogy of legacy sequels. Might be the only one. Could you imagine if Scorsese came back to do this film? With Scorsese and Cruise attached, it would easily make over $100M

Lance Parrish gets 2 hits, Tigers still lose to the Rangers

Anyone see that new movie, The End of Oak Street?

Takes place in 1982 in Michigan. During a block party, we hear on the radio that Parrish got 2 hits, but they still lost to the Rangers.

Sounds like it was this game, on Friday, July 9th, where the Tigers fell to the Rangers 3-1.

Anyone following the Tigers that summer?

POTUS Body Counts: When Presidents Meet Presidents

Who are some Presidents that have the highest POTUS Body Count, meaning they met other Presidents?

Clinton has met many:

  1. JFK

  2. Nixon

  3. Ford

  4. Carter

  5. Reagan

  6. Bush

  7. Himself

  8. Bush II

  9. Obama

9! Probably some future ones too. He was pretty young and meeting JFK at 16 certainly helped.

George Washington met 6. I'm assuming he met Madison and Monroe?

  1. Himself

  2. Adams

  3. Jefferson

  4. Madison

  5. Monroe

  6. John Q. Adams

Who are some others with high POTUS Body Counts?

Does anyone know of any POTUSes who met only 1 or 2?

Bear's Peripheral Vision

Bro has no peripheral vision. He has this entire conversation with Nikki in the living room after she taped the door shut and doesn't notice it until after the talk.

I get it; the duct tape beat has to come after the talking to beat. If he had noticed it before, it would've derailed the talk. Still, it looks like he has no peripheral vision.

New Villain for Friday the 13th Part II (1981)

Was anyone around back then and watching these movies back then as they were coming out? Particularly the first 2 films?

Do you remember any people who were confused that Part II had Jason as a villain?

I'm thinking of all the people who thought Michael Myers would be back in Halloween III when that "back-from-the-dead slasher" trope hadn't been invented yet.

Did anyone expect Pamela to be back for Part II?

Variety: Peter Farrelly's “I Play Rocky” spent $27 million shooting in New Jersey, along with collecting $10 million in incentives, allowing the film to come in under budget.

I predict that the film's production budget is in the high-$20 million and low-$30 million range. Given that it was an independent feature, that Amazon only boarded on for U.S. distribution. The budget number sounds pretty good.

Day 13: Odyssey vs. BND

Per a recent post and update on BOT, BND made $13.25M on its 2nd Wednesday, day 13 of its first run.

On its day 13, The Odyssey made $13.6M, just over $374K more than BND's day 13.

Spidey may have finally slowed down to fall under Odyssey's pace after 13 days.

Next up is when BND falls under Odyssey in daily totals, if it ever does. For instance, if on day 27 Spidey makes less than $5M.

Who knows when that'll actually be. Only took 13 days for it to happen in dailies.

Reporting for jury duty tomorrow afternoon. First time in 16 years. What can I expect that is different these days?

Did 1982 audiences really expect Michael Myers to be in Halloween III if they saw him die in Halloween II and the back-from-the-dead slasher trope didn't exist yet?

u/Byers616 — 12 days ago

Why did 1983 audiences expect Michael Myers in Halloween III if he wasn't in the trailers or any of that film's advertising?

"You guys better not be doing some weird shit!" What do you think the "weird shit" was that Ian was afraid Nikki and Bear were doing?

You just had a billion dollars in cash drop into your home. How will you handle this windfall so the government doesn't take it away?
