I was looking for the mega thread where you can post good finds for BOTM books. But I couldnt find ir. Anyway, for anyone not minding the ebook version, it's currently available on sale online for $9. Kindle. As it's still showing out of stock with BOTM.
Happy reading!
How have I not heard of how amazing these hardbacks are?! I have never had a hardback book feel so good in my hands and stay open without me having to do anything!!!! I already finished my 2 books I can’t wait for next month!!!!
Does anyone else think it's weird that Caleb's mother bathes him until he's 12? I feel like that got skipped over. Is this why he acts the way he does?
When do you think we will get hints this week? What books are you hoping to see in June? I’m stumped!
Native son or Crux
They were both get read however I don’t know what to read next. I just finished A killing cold and loved it, but now it’s time for a little change of pace I think
Got a free book and two add ons lmao! Shhh! Don’t tell my husband
I finished Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez last night and have been ruminating on it. Some lines made it for sure not 5-stars for me, but it’s a solid 4.25/4.5.
One of my qualms is about Justin’s age. He’s 29 at the start of the book. He says his dad died a few years ago, and when Emma later inquires more, he says it was a few months after his baby sister was born, and she is ~4 in the book. So that means Justin was ~25 when his dad died. About 3/4s of the way through chapter 1, Justin says his dad was 45. So Justin’s dad was 16 (edit: should have said 20) when he was born. How old was his mom? I would’ve thought they would’ve discussed this a bit more, particularly with the big twist at the end where Emma finds about her mom, Amber, gave birth to her older half-brother Daniel when she was ~15. That seems like either an oversight with the ages or a lost opportunity to juxtapose the parallels and differences of Emma and Justin’s childhoods.
Another thing that bothered me was near the end of chapter 8, when Emma said that Justin should think his would be happy or grateful to be dead because in an alternate reality, Justin/his family might’ve died and his dad might’ve bargained to take their place. I appreciate the value of the reframing aspect she was giving Justin, but wow, what an example. I do keep thinking about it and I get it, but I just don’t know if I jive with it.
Also, personally, some of the lines were too corny for me. Example: shortly into chapter 27, “Soulmate and love of your life aren’t the same.” Example: 2/3s into chapter 47, when Emma is confessing her love, she says, “I love you at first sight, Justin. It just took me a really long time to be able to tell you what I saw.” I didn’t hate these lines but I did eye roll a bit.
I enjoyed this slow burn romance with lots of contemporary fiction woven in, but some of the writing wasn’t my favorite. I loved the first of this trilogy, Part of Your World, and didn’t like the characters or twist/trope in Yours Truly. I went in with high expectations for YT after PoYW, and I was disappointed. That made me pause on this book, but I would read Abby Jimenez’s new books.
I’m sad because I’m loving this book! I turn to the next page and I’m shocked to see that a huge chunk of it is missing! Could anyone take a pic of page 189 & 190 for me? Please? 🙏🏼
Happy weekend! What are you currently reading? How are you liking it?
I’m 72 pages in and not enthralled by it. I’m seeing so much hype for it I hate that it’s not drawing me in 😩 Does it pick up? Or should I DNF?
Wish I could pick more than 3 books already but I’m still glad to have found Book of the Month because these books are a steal for how much we pay per book! 😍
Hi everyone! I am looking forward to reading this.
I am considering buying because I have been on the library waiting list for 8 weeks and have enough 8-12 to go. Is it worth buying? Will I only read once? Thoughts
its my first month with BOTM and I picked Burning Side. So far I live how these hard covers stay open. I love the binding and the ability to ready hands free. I might be hooked!
We knew it was coming from their marketing whoopsies at the start of the month, but it is officially here now
My box is was ordered in April and then got lost/had tracking mixed up for a while. It finally said out for delivery today.
I got it from the mailbox and it was completely covered in packing tape. Like, almost completely. At least two sides were torn open. I figured okay, whatever, machinery mishap, hopefully the books are okay.
Then I opened it and saw books that aren’t even from Book of the Month and are clearly old?
At the very bottom of the box I finally found The Invisible Hour (which I was supposed to get, hooray) and Seek the Traitor’s Son (which I was also supposed to get), except it has no dust cover and has dirt/scrapes on it now.
I’ve been looking forward to this box for weeks after saving up to get five books in one month. Super disappointed, but I’m grateful to have a couple of the books still, at least. Hooray for The Invisible Hour, I’ll be starting it tonight!
Aka, do I preorder The Unicorn Hunters and the new Anne Patchett now, or do I wait?
(Sorry if this is too early, I already burned through my May pick...)
