After many times listen to daisy that passage just really hit different and now I cant get over it.

To give this post some context, I was (am) the perfect age for Brand New. I was 14 years old when Deja Entendu released. Prior to this album, I was listening to bands like Blink-182, New Found Glory, Good Charlotte, The Used, etc. When I heard Deja Entendu the first time, it felt like I had moved a step up the ladder. It was... Sophisticated. Brand New made me feel like I had a graduation within the "Emo" genre.

Fast forward about 22 years, to yesterday. It's been quite a while since I've been on a Brand New kick, but I had the urge to listen to The Devil and God. When I brought it up on Spotify, I saw this album Science Fiction from 2017. Hmmm, I've never heard this! I started the first track.... Oohh.. Wow. The second.... WOW. By the time I finished the third track, I was covered in goosebumps. It was AMAZING. I had that feeling of "graduating" all over again. And this time the band had as well.

So I never really listened to The Front Bottoms before, and then I saw a video on Instagram of two guys singing Twin Mattress acoustic. And I thought wow, I need to hear the real thing. So I obsessively listened to that song for about 24 hours and I wrote this. I hope it's enjoyable.

I've been stuck in the Waste, again, and am finding my motivation to quit in the chorus:

Last one was right at midnight. I'm so tired y'all, tired of tripping out, tired of coming down, tired of the heartbreak and anhedonia and hopelessness. Tired of the cycle repeating ad finitum - so I'm gonna try to break it for good, starting today.

Sorry for the vagueness, but I figured lots of y'all might relate to the sentiment even if the details differ from fan to fan. I'm gonna print the lyrics out and highlight the following for the challenging days ahead:

How do you guys grapple with it? He was an older man, making music marketed to and FOR younger folks all while touching kids. Pretty goddamn disgusting

Hi internet, thanks for clicking. I’ve been a fan for a while, and I always promised myself that my love for Brand New would never be interrupted by a bad event. You know, like when you eat too much (pimento cheese) and throw up? Then you can never eat (pimento cheese) again.

Anyways, one of my closest friends and the father of my child died. And I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to listen to Brand New again. Corey was indestructible and untouchable, until he wasn’t. Whether he was trying to be a better man (father) or even a good man or not, we will never know.

To know Corey was to both love and hate him; but never really him, just the choices he made. I would Google him periodically when he’d disappear just to check that he was alive. Now, I don’t need to.

I should invest in a journal, or even a hobby. Corey would be so mad to know that it took him dying for me to develop a hobby. Maybe I should, it would be funny.

Anyways , thanks for reading, hug your Corey’s tight, don’t do drugs, and try to go to the doctor when you don’t feel good.

So at a Brand New concert back in the day I remember buying this booklet from the merch vendor. I don’t even remember what was in it honestly but if I’m not mistaken there were 3 of them. Anyone remember this? I’ve tried searching for it but the Brand New band name makes it pretty hard to search for anything. Googling “Brand New Booklet” doesn’t really help anything lol. I was wanting to try and find one to frame for my music room. Any guidance would be appreciated. TYIA

Never made an album but best BN song of all time - for this reason and give another listen… bridges Jesse’s range from Your Favorite Weapon through Devil and God… ahead of its time and didn’t fit on any single album because it was the bridge of his evolution. I’ll die on this hill
