If I made a Buffy fansite...

I miss the big Buffy fansites of the past. I used to love those, I loved all the content, downloads, etc. I've been thinking about starting one, but I'm not sure what kind of content people like these days. Any thoughts? If you're the kind of person who liked fansites, what was your favorite part?

I love the feeling when you watch a show and dislike a character a lot and then get more immerses into the fandom after the fact and find out that that character is almost universally disliked.

Buffy and Riley feel so real and I’ve always really enjoyed that about his introduction!

I understand anything pro-Riley can be considered a hot take, but I will often start my (millionth) rewatch in random spots and this time I started in season 4. I think the transition to the college years is actually quite well done, and the Buffy/Riley romance feels like an actual connection between two people. I watched Buffy for the first time as an adult so Angel/Buffy didn’t have quite the same pull on me as it might have had had I watched it for the first time as an angsty teen—I’m not quite as into the broody, long looks across the room, romantic vibe—but I like the awkwardness and affection between Buffy and Riley in season 4. Their early romance feels authentic and cute (Riley’s speech about her wanting to “stay down in the darkness” notwithstanding…I hate that speech), and I think it’s all enhanced by the fact that Marc Blucas was a little baby actor himself when he got cast in the show. You can really feel his earnestness and it suits the role!

Bring on the naysayers 😅—I also understand the Riley dislike to some degree, especially in season 5—but their early romance has only grown on me with more time and rewatches.

Oh SNAP

New viewer- I haven’t seen past season 6 episode 21.

At the end of season six episode 21 when Willow is like no one can stop me now and then Giles comes out and he’s like yeah I’d like to test that theory OOOHHH MAN I did not see that twist coming and that was so epic.

Also.. I was really rooting for Spike, I thought he magically had some humanity or something, but holy shit I don’t think I can get past the attempted rape scene that was so disturbing. Right now he’s trying to get his power back? Remove his attachment to Buffy/ his chip. But I reckon (and hope) that he’s gonna return to human instead. “Returning to his former self”.

Also, the musical episode was so amazing. I cannot stop listening to under your spell.

And I can’t believe Joyce died. I thought that somehow she would come back?? But she never did. Crazy. Poor Tara :(

Huh. Well... I finished season 7. Finally finished the series.

That was... well that was something. I find it interesting that it didn't end with a finality, it seemed like they could have gone for a season 8. I don't know why I had it in my head that Buffy was gonna "die for real this time" or that her sacrifice is how ALL the slayers get their powers, or something like that, but nope, it's the all-convenient axe thing being not only a great demon killing weapon, but also a great power transferring weapon. I guess that might as well happen.

It's been roughly 1 year since I started the series, from the very beginning, being blown away by how it all started, as someone who grew up with the show but never got to actually watch most of it. So seeing it throughout season 1 through 4, and 5, especially the characters, how they started, it was just such a great experience.

There are a lot of things that bother me, stuff that I've wanted to make a topic about on here but never did, because discussing season by season, episode by episode, feels like I might fill up the entire sub, since there's so much to discuss in terms of my thoughts and feelings for what happens, the good the bad the ugly.

But ultimately, it was a series I was glad to finally get to see for real this time, and almost 20 years later it holds up well despite hiccups here and there

Why does it seem that most coming of age shows stop caring about school in college years in comparison to the high school years?

Sorry if the title is confusing but basically many shows that follows kids through high school then through college have many more scenes and storylines involving high school then once you get to college, any school story gets scaled back significantly. I remember watching 90210 for the first time a few years ago and the first three seasons focused a lot on high school even if the overall plot wasn't about school for that episode. Once they got to college, the school scenes was way less and the school portion became less of a focus with more focus on outside nonsense, to the point you forget these "kids" are actually still in college. Buffy is similar in that the first three seasons puts a huge emphasis on them being in high school even if the overall plot of the episode was about something outside, you still see scenes of them just hanging out in school during the day. Once they get to college, even in season 4 where college got more focus than the succeeding seasons, the foucus on school was scaled back.

Now I'm not complaining an I understand the nature of the show and that things went bigger, stakes were higher so college was less of a priority to focus on but it is still a detail I always thought about. Even in season 7, Dawn goes to HS but way more scenes with Buffy working as a counselor and that only lasts like the first half of the season (plot wise I understand why, I'm complaining about the writing here) but it's a pattern for many of these shows where high school gets a ton of focus yet when they go to college, college is less of a focus and the writing shifts to outside storylines with school on existing when it is necessary for the plot.

What Evil Cordy could had looked liked on Angel season 4

Charisma as the Seer in Charmed s7, if the writers on Angel season 4 had taken Cordelia being Evil seriously and not just a way to punish Charisma for being pregnant, this is what Evil Cordelia would had looked like.

Thoughts on evil Willow?

On the last episode of season six! What are your guy's thoughts on evil willow i think it's a little forced bc she literally almost killed Giles and that doesnt seem like something she would ever do but idk 🤷‍♂️ I think Joss knew everyone liked Vampire Willow so he made her evil.

Tea is soothing, I wish to be tense.

This line from Giles literally lives rent free in my head and deserves more love.

Genuinely, I think about it every time I go to brew up and I usually pick my drink based on if I want to be soothed or tense.

Just felt a need to share this underrated gem.

Is Buffy the best TV Finale?

I've just finished a rewatch and the S7 finale is practically perfect to me. I can't think of a show with such a satisfying ending.

The only things I can pick on are that if they'd just sent Spike down there first, he could've fried everyone without the need for anyone else to die (though granted, that's terrible television 😂), multiple Turok Han's being taken out by Scoobies when 1 absolutely battered Buffy earlier in the season and Buffy's ridiculously impractical footwear choice for the final fight 🤷🏻‍♂️

I thought it was sad that Amanda died, but they needed a potential we knew to die in that moment to sow the seeds of doubt.

Anya was a good sacrifice as it needed someone we cared about to die but not a core scooby, so it was her or Dawn and Dawn dying would've been a way sadder ending.

That final shot of realisation for Buffy that she could live a normal life was 🤌🏼

So SMG originally auditioned for Cordelia… but could you imagine if Charisma had played Buffy. Just imagine the roles reversed for a minute. Which differences with the actual show? Do you think the show would have been just as successful?
