What story elements from the first Scream have a remake counterpart in Scream 4?

One thing I love about Scream 4 is that Jill’s motive is basically recreating the original Woodsboro murders like she’s making her own remake of the first Stab movie, except with one major twist: this time Sidney becomes the “old generation” final girl and Jill wants to replace her as the new one.

Jenny is basically the new Casey Becker, but her death feels more like Tatum’s garage kill.

Rebecca fills the Gale role as Sidney’s publicity/media connection, but dies in a way that also mirrors Kenny by ending up thrown onto the news van.

Gale herself becomes the remake version of Himbry. Her attack at the Stab-a-thon becomes the distraction that clears everyone out and lets Jill and Charlie move into the real final act at Kirby’s house.

Kirby feels like a Randy/Tatum hybrid. Mostly Randy because of the horror knowledge, but she has some of Tatum’s attitude too.

Robbie feels like if Kenny was a teenager and also a horror nerd. He’s constantly filming everything around him and treating the murders like a movie.

Charlie thinks he’s Randy in Jill’s remake because he’s the movie geek explaining remake rules, but he’s actually Stu. And during the climax he even gets put in Steven Orth’s position by being tied up while Jill quizzes Kirby like Ghostface quizzing Casey.

Trevor is introduced like Jill’s version of Billy Loomis, the suspicious boyfriend you’re supposed to distrust, but he actually ends up filling the Derek role instead since he’s innocent, framed, and tragically killed as part of Jill’s setup.

Judy is pretty much female Dewey.

And Jill herself is basically Sidney and Billy combined into one person. She wants Sidney’s survivor fame but she’s willing to become Billy to get it. That’s what I think makes Scream 4 one of the smarter sequels because the remake commentary isn’t just characters talking about remakes, the entire plot is literally built around Jill creating her own twisted remake of the original movie.

Before there was Alison DiLaurentis there was Lily Kane (Amanda Seyfried from Veronica Mars)

I never realized how much influence Veronica Mars had on PLL especially in season 1 and how they write Alison's character

What is your favorite "Where you lead, I will follow" moment in the series?

So the whole point of the theme song "I Will Follow" was that each moment in the show would be full circle; if it happened to Lorelai it would happen to Rory and vice versa.

for example;

An early one, when Rory comes to thank Lorelai for defending her against Emily in early season 1 when she accidentaly stayed out with Dean all night at Miss Patty's, after Emily leaves Lorelai goes ballistic on Rory after just defending her.

Then later in season one, after Richard defends Lorelai against Christopher's father, Lorelai comes to Richard and thanks him, and like Lorelai; Richard goes ballistic on Lorelai too.

Sitcoms/Dramedies that are overanalyzed to death?

Title is simple what are examples of sitcoms and dramedies that are overanalyzed to death to the point?

For me it's Gilmore Girls, this show is supposed to be wholesome with some dark humor, it's not meant to be overanalyzed to pieces

There's no character on Gilmore Girls that I wanna throttle more than Anna Nardini

I know this isn't a groundbreaking post but I seriously hate this woman so much especially during the custody battle in season seven. Anna's lawyer was so hostile towards Luke and Luke's lawyer was useless.

I know that they made the custody battle for the sole reason for Lorelai's letter about Luke so he could win the custody battle, but they didn't need to make everyone an asshole for that scene to happen.

Anna is lucky that Luke is a pushover because anyone else wouldn't let that evil woman talk to them that way.

I so wish we could have seen the look on Anna's face when we found out that Luke won.

SPOILERS FOR GONE GIRL INSIDE: Was PLL Season 5 lowkey inspired by Gone Girl when it came to Mona’s plan?

Every time I rewatch season 5, I end up thinking about Gone Girl.

Mona basically stages her own murder, plants evidence, manipulates everyone around her, and frames Alison by making the entire town believe she’s guilty before anyone even knows the full story. That feels very Amy Dunne coded to me.

What really reminds me of Gone Girl is how both plans rely more on controlling people emotionally than physically. Mona already knew Alison had a horrible reputation in Rosewood, so once she disappeared and the evidence started piling up, people were ready to believe Alison killed her. Amy does the exact same thing to Nick by turning public opinion against him piece by piece.

Even Leslie reminds me of Noelle from Gone Girl. Leslie is honestly one of the weakest characters on PLL, but she feels similar to Amy’s friend that gets used as part of the setup and helps sell the story. Mona using Leslie for parts of her plan gave me the same vibe.

The difference is Gone Girl stays focused entirely on Amy’s scheme, while PLL keeps throwing in a million other twists at the same time with Charles, Bethany, the Dollhouse, etc. Sometimes Mona’s fake death plot almost gets buried underneath all that.

Still, the similarities are hard not to notice, especially with the timing since Gone Girl came out while season 5 was airing.

Does H20 feel more like a direct sequel to Halloween (1978) than Halloween II?

I know H20 technically follows both Halloween and Halloween II, but honestly every time I watch it, it feels way more like a continuation of the first movie.

The ending of the original Halloween leaves things open enough for that. Michael gets shot, falls off the balcony, then disappears. That’s classic “the boogeyman is still out there” stuff.

But Halloween II ends with Michael literally walking out of an explosion completely on fire before collapsing. Laurie sees it herself. That ending feels WAY more final than the first movie ever did, which is why H20 always feels a little weird to me continuity-wise.

What’s strange is that H20 does acknowledge Part II happened. John mentions Laurie seeing Michael burn, and during the opening title sequence there are newspaper clippings showing Laurie in the wheelchair after the hospital attack. So the movie clearly wants us to remember Halloween II happened.

But then Michael shows up looking mostly normal. No real burn damage, no severely scarred hands, nothing that really makes him look like someone who survived being engulfed in flames.

The movie also barely talks about the actual hospital massacre itself. Outside of the sibling reveal and the explosion, it almost feels like H20 treats Michael like he vanished after Loomis shot him at the end of the original movie.

Even the tone feels closer to the first film. It strips away all the Thorn cult stuff and just focuses on Laurie’s trauma and Michael coming back after her. Honestly, it almost feels like a prototype for what H18 eventually did years later.

What Evil Cordy could had looked liked on Angel season 4

Charisma as the Seer in Charmed s7, if the writers on Angel season 4 had taken Cordelia being Evil seriously and not just a way to punish Charisma for being pregnant, this is what Evil Cordelia would had looked like.

When it comes to problematic moments why isn't Richard hitting Emilys car not talked about much?

Of all the problematic moments in the relationships we always talk about why is Emily being hit by Richard in his car not as discussed as Jess getting mad at Rory when she said no to having sex in Kyles bedroom

SPOILERS INSIDE FOR NEW VIEWERS: I honestly don’t think Chandler Riggs could’ve handled where Comic Carl eventually goes as a character

Sorry for the lengthy OP

I’ve been rereading the comics lately and it made me realize just how different Comic Carl eventually becomes compared to TV Carl.

Comic Carl slowly grows into this genuinely intense character. He becomes harder, more emotionally damaged, more unpredictable, and starts feeling less like “Rick’s kid” and more like someone who could actually carry the story on his own. A lot of the later material with him depends heavily on presence and acting range.

And honestly, I just never thought Chandler Riggs had that range.

I’m not even trying to bash him because I think he worked well enough in the earlier seasons when Carl was still younger and mostly reacting to the world around him. Stuff in seasons 2-4 worked because the character was still believable as a traumatized kid growing up too fast.

But once the show started pushing Carl into heavier emotional territory, I think the gap between TV Carl and Comic Carl became really noticeable.

A scene that always stands out to me is in “After” when Carl is ranting at Rick while he’s unconscious. The scene is clearly meant to show all this built-up anger, fear, frustration, and exhaustion finally spilling out of him after everything they went through.

But for me it never fully lands emotionally because Chandler just doesn’t have the same level of range that a lot of the adult actors on the show had.

Compare that kind of emotional material to what Andrew Lincoln, Melissa McBride, Jon Bernthal, David Morrissey, or Danai Gurira could do in breakdown scenes and there’s a noticeable difference. Those actors could make emotional moments feel messy and real without it feeling like they were “performing.”

With Chandler, I was always aware that he was acting.

And I think that becomes a problem when you look at how intense Comic Carl eventually gets as a character. Later Comic Carl needs someone who can naturally pull off anger, trauma, vulnerability, intimidation, and leadership all at once.

TV Carl never really reached that point for me.

At the same time though, I still think the way the show handled Chandler’s exit was awful. Even if they felt he couldn’t carry Comic Carl’s future material, firing him right after he bought a house and was preparing to become an adult on the series was messed up. It felt less like a creative decision and more like AMC not wanting to pay an adult salary for a character they suddenly decided they didn’t need anymore.

Honestly I think the writers realized they couldn’t fully adapt Comic Carl as written because after Carl left, pieces of his comic material started getting divided between multiple characters instead of one actor carrying all of it.

The Flu arc is one of the greatest performed story lines of the series

I know that the flu doesn't really make much damage to the main group and it mainly kills the background characters but this story line was just so beautifully acted and really showed the range of the cast especially Scott Wilson that man deserved an Emmy for this season.

and when it comes to drama this is the best season there is just everyone surviving together no stupid cliche love triangles like in season 2, no people being stupid like in season 3 just a family trying to survive a disease.

Who would you rather have as a friend? Dodie Bishop (As Told By Ginger) or Paris Geller

Both are insufferable and flip flop so damn much to their "best friend" (Ginger/Rory) but who would you rather have as a high school friend? Dodie in As Told By Ginger or Paris

Did the writers prefer Louis over Violet for Clementine?

idk but Clementine's first romance scene with Louis just had more thought to it than Violet's did, Stargazing was cute but I just wanted something more like Louis playing the piano
