Rewatching Season 1 is honestly jarring

I’m starting a rewatch and revisiting Season 1 is quite an experience. There’s a lot more adult and inappropriate jokes as well as a few moments of characters cursing that weren’t present at all in the other seasons. You can tell that this was before Jeff Franklin and the writers decided that this would be a family friendly show.

Did Danny and Pam get married because of DJ?

OK, so hear me out on this one:

I’m doing a rewatch for the first time as an adult. Like a real sit down and watch in order type of rewatch. And something occurred to me. I was just watching the episode The Graduates. In the episode, DJ is about to graduate junior high and go into high school. Which makes her 13 going on 14, if not 14 already. Also, in the episode, Danny says he’s 33. So that means Danny was either 19 or 20 when DJ was born. And we know from the tape of his old college talk show, they was in college and he showed the picture of baby DJ. So I’m wondering if Pam and Danny were dating. Pam unexpectedly got pregnant with DJ, and they sort of got married because it was in the 70s and it was considered the right thing to do. Also given what her parents seem to be like and his mom seems to be like, I could imagine that both sets of parents would push them to get married if Pam were pregnant.

What do you all think?

Unpopular opinion but technically true.

Stephanie wouldn't have won princess for the day at Disney World even if she had gone first.

I absolutely detest Michelle, always have. This episode made her way more bratty than usual (who knew that she could get even more brattier than normal).

When Michelle shoved her way in front of Stephanie & rubbed the lamp she did it for an extended period of time. The guy in charge of it told her that her turn was over; she still continued to rub the lamp. Had Stephanie rubbed the she she would have followed the rules, the time allotted & stepped down when dude told her here time was up. So regardless of which order the girls were in Michelle would have won.

It still bugs me that they wore sweaters in the Florida heat

This tiny little thing has always bugged me since I was a kid; why in the world were they wearing sweaters and long sleeve in the Florida heat? They said that someone in one of the Disney costumes passed out because the heat was so unbearable. Michelle and Stephanie had on sweaters throughout the whole episode. I'm pretty sure Kimmy was burning up because she was fully covered and she had leggings on! Michelle kept her sweater on until part two of House Meets Mouse and then she finally tied it around her waist. Why didn't they change into shorts and tshirts once they got off of the plane? Idk just something that I wondered.....

Danny acted like a freak in this episode

Not even just the snooping thing but how psycho he was the whole episode. He kept asking and asking D.J. what was wrong and it was borderline creepy how hard he was forcing it.

Each Tanner Daughter

Out of each Tanner daughter I think Stephanie had the most growth as a character. Stephanie was 5 at the start at the show, and she was 13 at the end of the show. For reference, Michelle was 8 when the series ended. DJ was 10 when the show started.

Michelle seems to always be a baby, for the most part. She wasn't doing nearly as much as what Stephanie was doing at the start of the show at age 8. That is no fault to the Mary Kate or Ashely. They were great actresses, and they would 100% be welcomed in the world of acting, if they chose to do it again. It was the character itself. Even as Nicky and Alex came along, she started to seem rude to them. She treated them like a pet, almost.

DJ seemed rude to Stephanie at the start of the series. While Stephanie did have some moments with Michelle, I always thought Stephanie was much kinder. Even as she gets older, DJ can be selfish at times, when she is needed to babysit and drags Michelle and Stephanie along with her on a date with her and Steve, sneaking them into the movie. Then, asking them to lie about it.

Stephanie was always a good friend to others. She tried to help everyone out. The only bad thing I can really think of that she did is make a bad choice to ride dangerously in the car with the older boys with Gia. That being said, when Kimmy got her licenses, all of the girls did a circle around Kimmy's car, at an intersection, to impress boys. That was a dangerous act, too. Ultimately, Stephanie chose not to go back into the car to drive around dangerously with Gia and the group of older boys. I feel like that was more responsible than letting always talk her into stuff, like Kimmy talks DJ into.

My 8 yr old just finished the whole series

Just joined - my daughter loved it. I’m the same age as as Stephanie and grew up watching on TGIF but thought I’d be bored rewatching - but my daughter wanted to watch the whole series and I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

I never realized how the early episodes especially were so focused on Danny/Joey/Jessie dating random women- I was so little when I first watched I think all that went over my head.

We laughed at how crazy some of the plots were like Michelle and Stephanie accidentally flying to New Zealand and back - same perfect hairstyle/same outfit without a wrinkle. And Stephanie’s dancing at the telethon, I remember thinking that was very cool when it aired lol.

The House Meets the Mouse has to be my least favorite Michelle-centric episode in the entire series.

I know hating Michelle is beating a dead horse on this sub, but this episode gets under my skin for some reason. What's funny is it used to be one of my favorite Full House episodes as a kid. Watching it now, I realized Michelle is absolutely unbearable.

First, she cuts in front of Stephanie to rub the genie lamp, then keeps rubbing it way longer than she's supposed to while everyone else is waiting. The fact that she actually becomes Princess for a Day because she ignored the rules just makes it worse.

And can we please let Stephanie win for once? It feels like every time the two of them are put against each other, Michelle comes out on top. Stephanie had every right to be upset after getting skipped over, but everyone acts like she's just being jealous and needs to get over it.

Then Joey gives Stephanie a lecture about not letting her anger ruin the day. Why? Michelle was the one acting spoiled and bossing everyone around. She's the one who needed that speech, not Stephanie.

The ending doesn't fix it for me either. Michelle giving Stephanie the princess role is supposed to be this huge selfless moment, but it doesn't really land. By that point they'd already done almost everything in the park, and the parade was the last major activity. On top of that, the whole family gets to ride in it anyway, so it never felt like Michelle was actually sacrificing anything.

OT: Was anyone else confused by the Becky and Jesse anniversary subplot? Becky acts like Jesse ruined their anniversary because he was working... but they literally went to Disney because Jesse was booked to perform there. She knew they were in Florida for work. If anything, Jesse's mistake was overpromising what he'd be able to do between commitments, not the fact that he had commitments in the first place.

I still love the Disney setting and the nostalgia and I still think it should have been the series finale because I love Danny and Vicky, but the Michelle storyline completely drags these episodes down for me.

Times it seemed like the show didn't take place in San Francisco.

I don't know how to explain this question so bare with me. The show takes place in San Francisco, a major cultural city in California. But, what are episodes where the plot really shouldn't happen because, they live in San Fran. But, of course, rule of funny.

The ep when DJ forgets Kimmy's birthday. They had no cake and cobbled-together decorations. You mean they couldn't found a store that had party supplies and cake in San Fran, even at the last minute? You would have thought they lived in the middle of nowhere and all the stores closed at 5. But, rule of funny.

The ep after Danny breaks up with Vicky and trys new things. So, he makes everyone sushi and sets up an authentic Japanese-style dining area. Now, I'm pretty sure, even then, San Fran had a pretty good size Japanese population, not to mention Japan town.

But, good lord they acted like it was the worst thing ever. I mean they've never come across sushi or eaten any kind of Japanese food? Again, you'd think they lived in a small town, where the Olive Garden is considered fancy. But, rule of funny.

Of course, they don’t eat Chinese because Michelle doesn’t like it so I shouldn't be surprised.

So,.what are your thoughts?

I might have the answer to the backyard mystery

I’ve seen people wonder several times about how they fit cars, trucks, and boats into the backyard when there’s no real alley.

Well I might know. I’ve lived in two different houses that had street entry from a road in front of the house and the gate in the back lead to a parallel road. A less busy one that runs behind all the houses on the block and the opposite block facing the other way. That’s how I’ve always imagined the house since I’ve lived in a couple like that.

Edit: the couple of downvotes on this is crazy

When relationships end-

-or more don’t. It’s crazy that aside from Vicky, most of the guys don’t have many scenes where they break up with their gf, nor is it mentioned. Unless it’s the same episode they get together.

Through the whole show they get girlfriends, they’re super into each other, crazy chemistry and compatibility, go on dates, then they disappear without any acknowledgement from the show. You don’t know they’re single again until they’re next romantic adventure.

It especially drives me crazy with Danny and Joey because they all act like it’s amazing and sooo unlikely that they somehow pull a hot woman, yet they each do so a couple times a season on average. I know they’re all actors and it’s a show, but still. Give them not model hot people.

In conclusion, I know it’s a sitcom and continuity isn’t really a thing in their universes, but still. Just a brief “yea we broke things off” would’ve been nice.

5 year old Stephanie vs Michelle development/behaviors

Has anyone ever realized that there’s a decent difference in the behavior between the two at the same age? Stephanie was already having complex conversations from ep 1, scheming, and just seemed to be further along developmentally.

Meanwhile Michelle is still struggling to form long sentences, is extra gullible, and still acts very toddler-like in season 5 where she is also 5.

I thought maybe the actors were different ages, but nope. All actors were 5 at filming.

But then it hit me. Twins develop slower, especially in language, about 50% of the time. So it makes a lot of sense that if the actors are a little bit behind they would have to keep the character as so. And Jodie Sweetin likely was ahead developmentally, especially being a young actor. And as the twins were hired as babies, they wouldn’t be able to predict how they’d come along later in life.

Sorry just some random thoughts I thought could bring discussion.
