what do you think about the lofts (tenth and tusk)?

I am moving into the lofts next year and for some reason, when I signed my lease, the rent was $800, but now the rent for the same layout is $625...so, not sure what that's about if anyone knows, but my main question is are the provided beds (assuming amenities were paid for) comfortable or do they need toppers? and I guess just generally, what do you think of the lofts/what has your experience been?

Chances at bama

I’m currently a junior I have a 3.85 weighted for my junior year and around a 3.7 overall for freshman sophomore and junior year. Unless I get a good enough score Im gonna go test optional. OOS, have solid extracurriculars and my intended major would be business.

UA Online

I am researching online master’s programs and want to understand what the weekly workload looks like. For anyone who has completed one, how are classes usually structured (assignments, discussions, assessments), and how many hours per week did you typically spend per course? Any insight helps.

WPI 45k or U alabama 20k

International student from italy 🇮🇹 committing soon, and I keep flip-flopping between these two.

WPI would run me about $45k a year after merit. Alabama comes in around $20k. That’s a $100k difference over four years, which is real money for my family — not deal-breaking, but enough that I need a good reason to spend it.

What I actually care about is ROI in the broad sense. Not just starting salary, but the network, the recruiting pipeline, what doors are open four years from now. I’d happily pay more for a school that genuinely opens things up. The problem is I’m not sure either option clearly does that.

WPI’s project-based curriculum sounds incredible and the engineering reputation is solid, but every single thread and every person I’ve talked to says the social scene is dead. I’m 18, going abroad for the first time, and the idea of spending four years grinding in a lab in Worcester with nothing else going on kind of scares me. College isn’t just about the degree.

Alabama is the opposite problem. The campus life looks amazing, people seem genuinely happy there, and at $20k I can breathe. But I cannot find clear info on what happens to their mech eng grads. Do they get recruited outside the South? Is it mostly Mercedes and local plants, or do aerospace and defense companies actually show up? Is the degree taken seriously in the Northeast or on the West Coast? I’m flying blind on the part that matters most to me.

So I guess what I’m asking:

WPI people, is the social thing really that bad, and did the network actually pay off after graduation? Bama mech eng grads, where do you all end up? And anyone who picked the cheaper school over the “better” one, do you regret it?

Any honest takes appreciated.

Unfairly trespassed from campus

I was trespassed from campus for simply being in the Mary B's dining area lobby. I am a senior and I have 19 credits left to graduate (even though I haven't taken UA classes for the past two semesters because of personal reasons and I am taking online classes somewhere else).During spring break, I was walking back from a long day at work at around 7pm and stopped by Burke hall, which I used to live in back in my freshman year, to use the vending machine and rest a little bit because it was unusually cold that day (they even had a freeze warning). I entered through the middle entrance which you do not need an act card for and is open to the public. I went to use the vending machine, got my snack ate it and because I was so tired from work I accidentally napped at a corner sofa in the room (which was totally empty since barely any students were there) only to be woken up by the police like 30 minutes later. I told them about the whole thing yet they didn't even want to listen to me and made me sign a trespass letter. I've been trying to repeal the trespass citation for weeks now but they just keep saying no without any further explanation.

Now mind you, I have no criminal record at all and already been here for 4 years without a problem and I am about to graduate. In addition, I've lived at Burke my freshman year and worked as a desk assistant there during my sophomore year. Not only that, I live and work right next to campus. I was also very respectful with the cops. Banning me from all of campus for something like that is draconian , and refusing to repeal it totally makes no sense. I do not know what to do at this point and just wanted to know if anybody went through something similar to this or knows a way I can get UAPD to rescind the trespass warning because my whole future is on the line.

I am so stressed out

4 Person Suite Ridgecrest South - Corner Rooms

Made room selection last night, we went for a corner room in Ridgecrest South, as we heard these rooms are larger - however, somewhere else I saw that the corner room is actually the smallest? Can anyone confirm before I start purchasing rugs, etc? Or does anyone have an example of a exterior corner room? In this example, room 324D

Am I cooked? May 20th Freshman housing selection date.

I got given the May 20th housing selection date, and I was wondering if there is even a chance of me getting a suite style with my chosen roommate. I’m a male so not sure how much that plays apart in it. I know housing at UA is crazy but is there any chance to get a suite style?

Summer school GPA

I had a pretty bad first year and ended up with a 2.27 GPA. I plan on taking courses over the summer but want to make sure my GPA will transfer and not just the credits. For example, if I get a 4.0 at the community college, will my cumulative GPA at UA go up or will I just get credit on my transcript? I would rather take courses at the community college because it will be cheaper but not really helpful if it doesn't help my overall GPA. Any advice is appreciated.

How hard is it to get a job on campus?

I'm just thinking about how hard getting an on campus job would be.

Either any minimum wage campus job or as the Resident Advisor. Any thoughts?

I’m on track to graduate in three years, starting year two in the Fall, and I’ve only taken one Honors class in accounting since none of the regular sections fit in my schedule, so I’d need to take an extra 11 credits to complete the program.

I only applied for Honors in the first place to get into Ridgecrest and for priority registration, but I’m not sure I even get that. In both the Fall and Spring, my registration time was on the very last couple days, and I knew multiple non-Honors students whose registration times were before mine.

There’s some classes that only Honors offers that I think would be interesting, but I’d still have to take at least UH 110 and maybe even UH 200/205 just to be able to register for them.

All things considered, I’d just appreciate anyone else’s perspective on Honors and whether it would be worth staying in it or not.

Edit: I should also say that I would have to take UH 110 over this Summer semester (starting May 26, I believe). The course is only four weeks long, but it starts while I’ll be out of the country doing study abroad work.
