Pools Are Opening: Swimsuit Safety

It's summer soon! Remember that children's bathing suits should always be a super bright neon color! The safest colors are orange, green, yellow, and pink. Neon pink is for pools, not lakes. I'm talking blindingly bright neon.

Silent drowning is very serious. Aesthetics don't matter when it comes to child safety. Dress them for their needs, not your pictures. In the same vein, the more neon cloth, the easier it is to spot! Full one piece, rash guards, etc. Two pieces are adorable, but more coverage is better for safety!

Does anyone know of any local opportunities built around Community Support for Gifted Adults?

I’m really hoping I can find some kind of social outlet for Gifted Adults within the community.

How is this ok? I get pulled over in Cary and get a speeding ticket and then the city sells all my data to law firms and anyone else who wants it? Seems very scammy and invasive. I just received 7 letters from 7 different law firms, shame on y’all.

1bd (affordable) apartment recs

Hi everyone. I'm a 23M who's looking for my first apartment by myself. My budget is sub $1200 base rent. The only other things I really care about would be a washer and dryer included. I know the budget is low but I have found some decent options so far including:

- Cary Pines

- Bacarra

- Brampton Moores

- MAA Waterford

- Weston Reserve

- Amberwood at Lockmere

Any recommendations and/or advice would be much appreciated.

Recommendations for local medical malpractice lawyers

Hello, I’m in a situation I never thought my family would find itself in….My wife had to have breast reduction surgery in order to alleviate horrible back pain. Immediately after the surgery, the same day….she began having complications regarding circulation in her nipples which led to tissue dying and her getting a horrible infection in her breast requiring her to stay in the hospital for almost two weeks. The original surgeon kept telling her everything looked good, when clearly you could see the dead tissue and infection in the beginning stages. It turns out the original surgeon was trying to conceal the fact that he had stitched her up too tight, cutting off the circulation…we discovered this going to a second hospital where a second surgeon thankfully admitted her. They immediately gave her antibiotics during her long stay in the hospital and then performed a second surgery to repair and remove the dead tissue caused by the first surgeon. We now find ourselves with extra medical bills due to the first surgeon’s negligence…that has been documented and supported by the second surgeon. We have never been through something like this before and are looking for recommendations from people that have found themselves in similar medical procedures gone wrong situations. Any recommendations for local lawyers that specialize in this type of law is greatly appreciated . Thanks in advance.

Doctor recommendations

Hi all, I’m relatively new to the area and am looking for a pcp. I live in the morrisville area but am willing to travel for a good dr. I would like one that is 420 friendly. I know it is not legal here but I smoke and it is important to be honest with your doctor and I would like to not be judged. Thanks.

Question for locals!

The second book in my fiction series is set in Cary, and I'm looking for some local advice of where a person could hypothetically host a state fair (open, flat grounds, parking nearby, not in the middle of nowhere). This would be in May, so not the annual state fair at the NC fairgrounds in October. It doesn't need to be huge, just a cozy setting for a ferris wheel and some carnival games. Thanks!

How much should I expect to spend on utilities?

Me and my fiance move in July and we are both first time renters. Our unit is 811 sq ft and it’s just us two living in the place with a rent of 1300. I am wondering what is the usual estimate we would spend on utilities since our complex don’t cover any of them sadly

Anyone visit the YMCA family pool this weekend?

I want to take my kids to the NW Cary or Taylor family Y pool they have the kiddie area. Does anyone know if it’s open? I think I remember staff saying “late May” last time I asked also, how’s the water feel? Warm enough to be comfortable?

Daycare recommendations

Hi we are moving to Cary in August and looking for daycare center for my toddler. We are going to move Cary/Apex line near linville ridge and looking for recommendations on great daycare. I’ve looked into the grove school, primrose, the growing years learning center so far on line but without being there it’s hard to know. Anyone have any recommendations for school?

Our work hours are a little crazy so a center that opens early ~7-8am and can stay open late ~5/6 would work best

Moving to Cary — tons of questions about local elementary schools and daycares

Here's what we're trying to figure out:

  • Horton: How often do kids actually get capped out? Do people realistically get off the waitlist, or should we assume we won't get in?
  • Alston: A lot of people seem to get sent here when Horton is full — is it actually a good school, or a fallback you'd rather avoid?
  • Carpenter: Mixed signals online — is it generally considered good or bad by people with kids there?
  • Davis: Is it really as competitive/intense as people say?
  • Mills: I've read it's a great "balanced" option — high performance without the prestige-driven pressure. Does that reputation hold up?
  • Highcroft: Specifically hearing it's very teacher-dependent and hit-or-miss more than other schools nearby. Is that accurate?

Bigger picture question for anyone who's been through multiple kids in public schools here: how much weight would you actually put on the elementary school when deciding where to live? I go back and forth on how much it should matter at that age.

Also looking for:

  • Daycare recs — which ones in the area do people like?
  • School Buses — are they safe, clean, reliable, and on time?
  • Parent involvement — what does week-to-week participation look like at these schools? Is it expected? Easy to plug in?

Appreciate any insight — trying to make a decision and the school piece feels like the hardest variable to pin down from the outside. Thanks, y'all!

cary news coverage

I just got a job as a journalist at a smaller local news outlet.

As residents of Cary/the greater Cary area, what do you wish reporters paid more attention to? Which broader topics or specific issues do you wish were covered in local news outlets?

It seems like community news is often crowdsourced informally on here and Nextdoor, with many questions left unanswered. I’d love your feedback!

Apartment Recs

I am moving to NC in the next few months and need some input on these apartments and some recommendations like these close to RTP! Cost is not my main concern, I just want some place 10-15 min from RTP, is safe, no bugs, and has grocery store close by! Also prefer having an apartment with a lobby (not just walk up to the door).

  1. Alta Wren —> heard many good things
  2. Bradford Cary
  3. Sinclair (Novel) Cary
  4. Alta Ivy
  5. Aster Cary
  6. Bexley Panther Creek

I haven’t found much info on options 2,3,4 so any input is appreciated!

Gyms in Cary

Hello! I was excited to join Lifetime Fitness (which is a $200 membership) and I asked them for a tour and a free day to check it out and they told me one day is $100. Then if I signed up it would go towards my membership...

Am I crazy or is that kind of ridiculous?

Any other nice gyms in the Cary area that you'd recommend?
