World Cup 1994 song?

With the World Cup, I was thinking about songs and remembered a 1994 World Cup song from new order (I think) and can’t find anything about it anywhere so was wondering if anyone knew the name or anywhere to find it. I think it was something about a plane flying over?

EDIT - I know about world in motion but this was different, i remember my dad buying it on cd single but he has since lost it but i know it was 94.

EDIT 2 - After lots of searching - it was not actually from 94, and was recorded in 2002 ( I think ) and we think it was used in bbc coverage for the World Cup - I’m guessing 2002 And it was the song Player in the league

End of an Era — Luka Modrić 🐐

Yesterday (July 3, 2026), Croatia lost 2-1 to Portugal in the Round of 32 of the World Cup. For 40-year-old Luka Modrić, this was likely his fifth and final World Cup match. After the game, Cristiano Ronaldo himself went over to embrace him and called him a legend of football. Modrić was seen leaving the pitch visibly emotional, though he hasn't officially announced his retirement yet.

So I figured this was a good moment to look back at his incredible career.

Early life:

A kid who grew up in a refugee camp in Zadar, surrounded by the horrors of war. Rejected by multiple clubs for being too small and slight. But from Dinamo Zagreb to Tottenham to Real Madrid — that's where his fairytale really began.

The Real Madrid golden years:

For over a decade starting in 2012, he formed one of the greatest midfield trios in football history alongside Kroos and Casemiro. He won 6 Champions League titles with Real Madrid. His corner in the 93rd minute of the 2014 La Décima final set up Ramos's famous equalizer — the moment that changed the course of the match and kickstarted a new era of European dominance.

The 2018 Ballon d'Or:

Breaking the decade-long Messi-Ronaldo duopoly as a midfielder says everything about how special he was. That same year, he led Croatia to the World Cup final and won the Golden Ball.

What he did for his national team:

Taking a tiny country like Croatia to the World Cup final in 2018 and third place in 2022 is no small feat. Five World Cups played, leading the team through countless pressure moments, and his performances never really dipped despite his age.

His contribution to football:

* Proved that height and physicality don't matter as much as intelligence and vision

* His signature "trivela" (passing/shooting with the outside of the boot) inspired a whole new generation of players

* Playing at an elite level at almost 41 years old showed that age really is just a number

Modrić hasn't officially retired yet, but yesterday's match felt like the closing of a chapter. Thank you, Luka — you proved a small nation can still make football history. 🇭🇷❤️

What's your favorite Modrić career moment?

Top 5 Central Midfielders of All Time - Has the Position Evolved?

Here are our early testing results.

This is obviously not a very relevant sample size.

Please note that players who have not primarily functioned as central midfielders (CM) have been excluded. While most of these players have occupied multiple midfield positions, they would generally be classified as classic "8s". Some have even spent time on the wing 😄

There is an expected bias toward modern players. This raises the question: has the position truly evolved, or are we just seeing recency bias? Who do you think is missing from the top 5, and what does your personal top 5 look like?

110 years ago in 1916 – After losing 4-0 to Uruguay, Chile protested that Uruguay's Isabelino Gradín and Juan Delgado were "illegal African players." CONMEBOL dismissed the complaint in one of international football's earliest racial cont

The match was Uruguay's first appearance in the South American Championship (now Copa América), ending in a 4-0 victory over Chile in Buenos Aires.

In the aftermath, Chile lodged a protest, claiming that Black Uruguayan players Isabelino Gradín and Juan Delgado were "illegal African players" and therefore ineligible to represent Uruguay. CONMEBOL swiftly rejected the complaint.

The incident is remembered as one of international football's earliest racial controversies and an early example of Black players representing a national team at the highest level of international competition.

Which past champion ( from 1986 to present) won with the least star power?

Can the World Cup be won without having some superstars in the team? Look back at the past recent champs and tell me if a team of very good players have won of if it requires having a top tier player on the team.

What is your favourite World Cup Ball of all time?

Throughout this tournament, we have been thinking of what our favourite ball of all time is and we’re interested to see what you all think.

We love the Jabulani simply due to the controversy/uniqueness of the ball but also like the Fevernova since it was the first time Adidas went bold with their design.

What are your thoughts?
