When I upload to Dropbox it uses my managers storage and not mine

I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask for help but I work within a team who uses DropBox.

I have been adding things to the team Dropbox but when I was going through it with my manager, all the files I am uploading are being stored on her personal account and not mine. So I have 5tb of unused storage, when others in my team upload to the same Dropbox folders it uses their storage and not my managers. What is going on? Happy to elaborate more if needed

Built a free OneDrive/SharePoint drive-letter sync client with thumbnails, real cloud quota in Explorer, local-first, and no telemetry

Disclosure first because the mods will catch it: I wrote this, MIT licence, link at the bottom, no upsell.

School IT background, but the use case generalises to any small-to-mid-size M365 estate (schools, small businesses, charities, roughly 20-500 users) wanting proper drive-letter mapping for OneDrive and SharePoint where the OneDrive sync client isn't the right shape. Wanted a drive-letter sync setup with a few specific things: image thumbnails that actually render in Explorer for cloud-mounted files (most existing tools don't), accurate cloud-quota numbers in the drive-properties dialog (refreshed from Graph), a local-first design where files always exist as real NTFS first and sync to the cloud in the background (rather than presenting the cloud as a virtual filesystem), one config.json that deploys to the whole estate, and zero telemetry. Didn't find one off the shelf with all of those, and was also curious whether I could build it myself. Side project that turned into a real thing.

It's called OneSync. .NET 8, Dokan for the FS bridge, MSAL + Graph SDK for auth and sync. Self-contained exe, Intune-deployable.

Highlights:

- True drive letters via Dokan (not subst, not "OneDrive sidebar entry under TenantName - LibraryName")
- One config.json deploys to the whole estate. OneSync probes Graph at startup and silently skips drives the signed-in user can't access, so different roles (staff/students, sales/finance/ops, whatever your split is) share one config
- Accurate cloud quota shown in Explorer drive properties (refreshed from Graph)
- Image thumbnails (JPG/PNG/HEIC) render like a local disk
- LRU eviction below a free-space threshold so shared/hot-desk laptops don't fill up over time
- Office desktop AutoSave + co-auth on docx/xlsx/pptx (via file-association redirect to ms-word:ofe with the direct SharePoint URL, slightly cursed but works)
- Zero telemetry. No analytics, no licence-server pings, no anonymous usage stats. Only outbound calls are to graph.microsoft.com and login.microsoftonline.com.

One war story while I'm here: Dokan's FindFiles callback enters synchronously from the kernel, so anything that blocks in there hangs Explorer. The first version called Graph synchronously to enumerate folders via .GetAwaiter().GetResult() (I know, I know). Worked fine until Graph went into 429 cooldown, at which point opening a folder hung Explorer for ten minutes while the cooldown lifted. I learned a lot in those ten minutes about how Explorer's UI thread feels under those conditions. Current behaviour: if Graph is in cooldown, folder browse returns immediately with on-disk placeholders and file hydration kicks off via Task.Run. Obvious in hindsight.

Repo: https://github.com/madeyouclickstudio/OneSync (DEPLOYMENT.md covers silent install switches and Intune detection rules)

Honest caveat: I'm running it with a handful of pilot users, not a full estate. The fleet-scale stuff is engineered for it but not battle-tested. Anyone deploying this to thousands of users is a pioneer at their own risk. Bug reports very welcome.

Yes I know about the OneDrive sync client. We tried it. The reasons it didn't fit (no real drive letters, every library is its own sidebar entry, no way to cap disk usage on shared laptops, no central deployment for which libraries each user sees) are exactly the reasons this exists. If those don't bother your fleet, OneDrive sync client is fine and you should ignore me.

Tell me what's wrong with it.

Folder Fort - Cloud Storage App - App Store

Congratulations to the team behind FolderFort on the new iOS app release!

I’ve been using it so far and honestly, 5/5 from me. The UI is clean, modern, and easy to navigate. I really like how all the important information and options are organized inside the left menu panel. Everything feels simple and polished.

Love it so far. Great job on the app!

FileLu Review: rclone, S3, and FTP Stability Issues

I've been monitoring FileLu for some time on Reddit and decided to purchase a lifetime plan on StackSocial when it was released last month. I've been testing it with rclone and S3 (or S5 as they call it), with disappointing results. I've used rclone extensively in the past with pCloud, and there wasn't a single issue. I then opened a support ticket with details of the testing and outlined what could possibly be a bug in the implementation. However, the ticket was marked as "resolved" without any reply, and of course, the problems still exist to this day.

I hope they can resolve these issues one day (especially since the Windows app was flagged as spyware by Windows, and I wouldn't want to continue using it, even though they claim it's a false positive). This is just a reminder that choosing an unestablished cloud provider can sometimes feel like money thrown into the sea. Here's hoping they can improve the stability of rclone, S3, and even FTP(S) support in the future (there are frequent disconnections when transferring large files), so I can eventually return to using it.

Drime Secure recommendations

Gays can you share your experience with Drime cloud storage?

After one of my external drives failed yesterday an spend two days recovering files, I am considering as second backup to use cloud storage. I found Drime lifetime offer for 6tb and I am curious what are you observations.

There is a offer also for 3 tb, but as I have about 1.2tb multimedia, generating aobut 140-200gb per year, I prefer to have a storage for few years ahead.

My main idea is - can I relay on cloud service as I can relay on external hdd?

Regards!

INTERNXT CLOUD STORAGE

I really wanted to like Internxt. On the surface, it looked like an incredible deal — a lifetime account with 20TB of cloud storage seemed too good to pass up. It felt like a worthwhile investment in a promising new company focused on privacy and innovation. Before purchasing, I did my homework. I read plenty of reviews — some glowing, others skeptical — and concluded that Internxt might just be a small startup working through early-stage growing pains. I figured it was worth taking a chance. My coworkers and a few engineering friends tried to warn me. They said things like, “It’ll probably be gone in a year — and so will your data.” Still, I took the plunge, hoping the critics were wrong and that Internxt would surprise me. Unfortunately, almost every negative comment I read turned out to be true. Customer service doesn’t just need improvement — it’s virtually nonexistent. When I reached out with questions and concerns, I received only an automated acknowledgment promising a reply within 24 hours. I waited. Nothing. I followed up two more times over the next several days and never received a response of any kind. After nearly two weeks of radio silence, I finally went back to StackSocial to request a refund. Even that process was unnecessarily difficult, requiring multiple follow-ups. The issue was only resolved after I made it clear that I would dispute the charge with my credit card company if necessary. Ironically, about a week after the refund finally processed, I received a canned, AI-generated marketing email from Internxt informing me that the features I had wanted to use would require an additional recurring fee. The timing would have been funny if it weren’t so frustrating. For context, my intended use was simple: I wanted to back up my music collection for safekeeping. Nothing fancy — just a reliable way to upload and store folders of albums. However, I quickly discovered that Internxt’s system wouldn’t allow me to upload folders at all. I had to upload each individual MP3 file one by one. At that rate, filling even a fraction of the advertised 20TB would have taken decades. It’s been a long time since I’ve been this disappointed with a company. I genuinely wanted to support a new, privacy-focused cloud storage provider, but Internxt’s lack of functionality, transparency, and basic customer support makes that impossible. For anyone considering it, take my advice: save your time, your data, and your money.

Jottacloud confusion

looking to replace/supplement backblaze b2 for home backup use I came across Jottacloud and liked their pitch so signed up for a demo. was pretty disappointed /confused.

They seem to be aimed at users who at least somewhat understand or have concerns about data security - Norwegian company etc etc but then the product seems a bit ‘dumbed down’.

- the ‘unlimited plan’ is 5tb. Or if you’re pushing it more disingenuously with the throttling, maybe a barely useable 6-7TB. Why call it unlimited? Very misleading.
-no e2e encryption. Ok it’s in Norway but what about; rogue employees, espionage, hacks, government bulk data collection? Even the CLI can’t encrypt at source

- the gui is extremely basic and not a ‘proper’ backup solution more a sync control panel for odd folders. feels worse than Dropbox but covering your entire system not just one main cloud folder. What’s worse is it’s mostly sync rather then backup/ snapshot and seems like there’s more chance of losing files by deleting on the cloud snd syncing back to your local copy.
-so I figured I’d use rclone which would also help copying data between other clouds as well as encrypt but that isn’t supported and errors crop up for me whereas not so with other providers.

Seemed like a good service at a good price on paper and I was sold but in reality it’s a bit of a letdown. Am I missing something? Anyone using it and having good experience?

I made FiFe to offload my devices

- Built using Flutter to cover all my daily platforms with a single codebase.

- integrated multiple cloud providers with BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) support, to easily claim the free storage tiers they offer.

- implemented strict client-side encryption, meaning the database content and files are completely useless to anyone without the specific key.

- Personally, I really like Backblaze B2. Once my free storage limits are full, I plan to extend my space using B2 only, though the other supported providers are great too.

- The entire project is open source, anyone can inspect the code or easily plug in any other S3-compatible provider they prefer.

Can you stack Filen plans to extend validity instead of storage?

Hello fellow Filen users,

I’m looking for a cloud storage solution to store my files for a long period (around 5 years).

I checked out pCloud(their lifetime plan is out of my budget), but since I’ve already used Filen (free), and their annual plan (~20€) is quite affordable, I’m considering sticking with Filen.

What I’m trying to understand is:

Instead of increasing storage, is it possible to stack subscriptions to extend validity?

For example:
If I buy a 200GB annual plan 5 times, will it give me 200GB for 5 years, or will it just stack into 1TB for 1 year?

Would really appreciate if anyone has tried this or knows how Filen handles it.

Thanks!

Edit: my budget is around 200 USD for getting around 5 year cloud storage..
Edit 2: As people suggested, filen will stack only storage so if can anyone recommend any cloud storage which suits my demand, i would be grateful. 450usd for pcloud is out of my budget, hence can't opt for it..

Looking for reliable ~1TB lifetime cloud options

Need recommendations for 1 TB of cloud storage for iOS. I’m steering clear of 'shady lifetime' plans as they seem to nerf features for customers and mark them legacy after few years. I have ~800 GB of data now, but I’ll be trimming it to 600 GB, so 1 TB is the target. What are the most reliable options for someone who wants to avoid the 'shady lifetime' trap?

What happened with FileJump?

I am a FileJump Stacksocial LTD user. Login via app.filejump.com does not work anymore. Seems like there is a new service with separate user management and without the LTD quota applied and no data migration.

Google Takeout

Hey, I’m trying to get a backup off all my photos and videos that I have across multiple google accounts, so Google Takeout seemed the way to go.
I already downloaded the zip files into my computer and extracted one of them to see if the photos and videos were all there.
Turns out that there are a bunch of JSON files saying “supplemental-metadata”. I can’t access them in any way, so I was wondering what I’m doing wrong.
If anyone can explain or help me in some way, I would be grateful.
Thanks for your attention.

What is a file hosting service i could use that shouldn't be blocked?

Please make it a free, probably no account service with a high limit.

I am trying to make unblocked games at school storing things on a zip and decompressing game files from there.

I purchased 1T from Jottacloud

Hello,

I recently purchased Jottacloud’s 1TB plan for $69.99. I was looking for an alternative to Google Drive and iCloud not to expansive, with a 1 year plan, storage space, and solid app support on both iOS and Samsung One UI.
My main needs were the ability to view photos and videos without downloading them to my phone, and fast upload speeds.
My first impression is positive: the app is easy to use and more intuitive than Filen, which I tried before. Upload speed is decent so far.

I’ve already transferred all my photos and videos from my iPhone, iPad, and Samsung Flip, and I still have plenty of space left. I still need to move the remaining files from Google Drive, but everything seems to be working well.

I’ll update this if anything changes or if I run into any issue

Is this a legit email?

My partner received this email and to me it stands out to all her other emails as you can see the title text of "update your payment info" is different to all her other emails, im an android user and I have never been threatened with all my data being deleted if I dont update in 24hrs.. feels kind of sus holding you at ransom to panic rush a payment?

Looking for reliable storage for 100GB max

Looking for an encrypted, safe E2EE storage solution for not more than 100GB.

Most services offer 1 TB or 500GB which is not needed for me.

Another important thing is the ability to view (preferably edit but not a requirement) of Word documents on the mobile and being able to search at least through document names.

Can you help please?

I discovered Filen but unfortunately their search is very sluggish.
