Bad Experience with Grupo Trejos Construction Company in Jacó — Warning for Anyone Planning to Build

Bad Experience with Grupo Trejos Construction Company in Jacó — Warning for Anyone Planning to Build

Hello everyone.

I want to share a bad experience my family had with the construction company Grupo Trejos, run by architect Diego Trejos.

In 2023, my aunt and uncle hired this company to build a house in Jacó. At first, everything seemed fine: Diego was attentive and answered our questions. But as the project moved forward, many problems started to appear: poor-quality work, issues with walls and beams, changes that did not follow the original house plans, and other serious execution problems.

The experience ended up being very stressful and exhausting for my family. They even considered taking legal action, but due to the cost, time, and emotional burden of the process, they decided not to move forward with it.

A few months ago, someone shared with me a website where other people are also publicly reporting experiences with this construction company. I’m sharing this here so that anyone considering building or hiring construction services in Jacó can take it into account before making a decision.

Based on our experience, we do not recommend hiring Grupo Trejos.

I invite everyone to check out the pictures of the their work:

Central America trip during September

My partner and I are planning a trip to central america, we like experiencing new cultures, good food and clear water. My options are Puerto Viejo/Limon Costa Rica, Antigua and Lake atitlan Guatemala, Roatan Honduras, Ambergis Caye Belize, Bocas del Toro Panama, Peru (Lima and cusco).

We're worried about hurricane season and rain and vibes in general. What place is most beautiful during this time? There's mixed answers on the Internet. Or is central america just not worth it during this time and I should do a February trip instead?

Should I do Albania or Italy instead?

My favorit animal

A quiet little moment from Puerto Limón.

I photographed this sloth at Maratopia, and I still love how peaceful it looks. No rush, no stress, just hanging there like it has life completely figured out.

Costa Rica has many beautiful animals, but sloths always feel special somehow.

Costa Rica in May?

Planning a family trip to the Guanacaste area, early May 2027. I've read humidity can be oppressive there during certain times of the year. I'm from Virginia where humidity gets really bad from June-September, but May is usually pleasant. Can anyone who's been to the Guanacaste area in early May tell me if humidity will be a problem for three healthy adults.

Cómo viven las lesbianas en Costa rica?

Hola. Mi esposa y yo queremos mudarnos a Costa rica. Y queremos tener hijos. Agradecería su respuesta.

Language exchange

Hola! I know there's a subreddit for language exchange but I would like to try here. I'm Costa Rican woman and looking to improve my English and if you are looking to practice your Spanish , we could help each other and hopefully develop a friendship.

Halloween crab

we were out with friends earlier tonight who were telling us about the Halloween crabs on their property. I had never seen one, so I asked them to send me a picture when we got back. They did, and it was very cool looking. Not 15 minutes later we heard a scraping at our patio door, and look who came knocking…and got very close to getting in 😯

Is there a recommended way to approach tourists or foreigners to strike up a conversation or offer advice in Costa Rica?

Hi everyone,

I sincerely hope that everyone is having an amazing day.

This post is dedicated mainly to foreigners (like Europeans or Americans for example) who have visited Costa Rica and aren't very fluent in Spanish.

My husband and I are pretty reserved most of the time, but more often than not we have seen young or middle age tourists kinda lost or stationary in the streets of San José with backpacks, travel suitcases and looking at their phones while talking in English.

Despite being introverted, we would like to offer some help and, at the very least, try to ask the tourists we've seen in the streets if they need assistance with something or advice. This could include knowing the dollar/euro exchange rate into colones, which places to visit, or apps to use for ordering food or traveling, as well as general advice for a great experience here in Costa Rica.

We're under the impression that most people don't want to be bothered in the street or would be scared if a stranger approaches them and asks out of nowhere how they are doing and if they need any help, especially since it's pretty common that most Costa Ricans (or least middle age and older ones) aren't particularly fluent or good enough with the English language, but my husband and I are pretty good (we both worked at Call Centers for a couple of years), and we really think we could make a difference.

What are your stories and recommendations, or your thoughts about being approached by a native in a foreign country you decided to visit? In regards to Americans and Europeans, are there any DOs and DON'Ts that need to be taken into consideration before speaking with a tourist in the street?

Any advice, anecdotes, stories or comments will be highly appreciated.

Have a great rest of your day, and for the Americans reading this, have a wonderful Independence Day tomorrow! Take care!

Recommendations NEEDED!

Going to Playa Hermosa in about 3 weeks with my family of 7 adults (3 of them are elderly) and 2 children (1 and 5 years old). We have nothing planned lol, except that we are staying in a beachfront house and we have a car rental secured. We really want to see wildlife, eat good local food, and do moderate adventurous things, like short hikes. Some of the adults want more adventurous excursions too, possibly zip lining or snorkeling. We prefer not to drive super far from Playa Hermosa, less than an hour to whatever we are doing. I would love some advice and recommendations to make the best of our trip, as I have no idea where to start. We are looking for things to be budget friendly. Thanks in advance!

One of my favorite views

I’m not one for fancy hotels but this is one of my all time favorite views. We got day passes for The Springs near La Fortuna in 2023 and again this year when we went back to Costa Rica.

Bioluminescent Tours

Hello!

I’m going to CR in ONE WEEK (ahh so excited!) and my daughter is dying to do a bioluminescent tour. I’ve found a few in Paquera.

I have two options for starting points. I’d like to come from my first location in Esterillos but will also be in Mirador …

How do I get to Paquera without driving around the peninsula? Is the Puntarenas ferry the only way?
Can I hire a water taxi?

Seems like the ferry is a lot of waiting for cars to load and unload. Is there a faster option or do I want my rental car when we get off?

Also if I do a bioluminescent tour they end around 8pm . Will a ferry run back that late? Likely need a 9 or 10 pm return?

Thanks in advance for this help, it’s the last piece of my Costa Rica puzzle to make my little 9 year olds dreams come true .

university question

hi, I’m a national Costa Rican (I was born in San Jose, my mother was a resident at the time of my birth) but we have lived in the US since I was 3. recently, I have had interest in applying for UCR (university of Costa Rica) and other universities/colleges in the area. when applying, do I mark myself as a national or foreign, since I have lived in the US my entire life and have American citizenship.

Divorce Decree

I’m a U.S citizen getting married to a Tica in August. I’m divorced and the processing times for an apostille in California (where I was divorced) very may well clash with my upcoming trip. I keep getting conflicting information. On one hand I see the official rules vía Google that I must have an apostilled divorce decree. But then I see the websites of some lawyers who just mention not needing it and just needing the information.

That being said, if there are any other foreigners in here who got married in CR and you were divorced before doing so, I’d love to hear your story. Did you end up bringing it or was there a workaround?
