Main Concerns & Discussion Points:

1. Building Utilities: Our service charges sit at nearly 10,000 CZK/month (on top of electricity and gas), which is an expense we did not have four years ago and takes a massive share of the net income.
2. Everyday Spending: 500 CZK/day must cover all groceries, household necessities, and miscellaneous family needs for four people. While it is manageable right now, it requires strict discipline.

We plan to keep this structure for the next 12 months before doing a full review.

How does this grocery/daily baseline compare to what other families of four spend in Czechia? Are there obvious areas you would cut or optimize?

Ahoj všichni, už rok pracuji ve firmě jako OSVČ za fixní odměnu. Teď se šéf rozhodl, že už nebude možné spolupracovat na živnost, a všichni přejdeme na HPP. Plat se ale měnit nebude – moje hrubá mzda bude stejná částka, jakou jsem jim doposud fakturoval. To znamená, že budu mít ve výsledku o několik tisíc korun méně.

Přijde vám to normální / přijatelné? Co byste na mém místě udělali? Mně to nepřijde úplně fér. Nastupoval jsem sem s dohodnutou odměnou a teď kvůli rozhodnutí firmy ze dne na den přijdu o několik tisíc korun měsíčně.

I'm an exchange student and will be staying in university housing, which will cost me just under 200€ per month. I'd like to know if 700€ is a reasonable amount to live relatively comfortably, considering that I don't usually eat out, but I also plan to go out at night and have a beer. What do you think?

This post is more for people who drive and know what driving is like in Czech Republic. I am from Spain and I was driving in Olomouc with my girlfriend on the way to pick her mum up from the main train station. I entered a small parking lot where there were few places to park but enough for the few next cars coming behind me to have room also. Now, I have been driving for 8 years, but still a new place/car is always a challenge and I need the navigation on while driving. My gf is from Olomouc but she doesn’t drive so can’t really advise much. As we entered the parking, we picked up her mum in like 5 seconds but we needed to reset the navigation as we had another car behind us. I decided to find a parking spot to buy us some time to arrange the navigation (we had trouble with bluetooth connections). As I stopped in a PARKING SPOT, the dude behind me insisted on waiting for me to leave so he could get in my spot. Also not even letting me get out of the spot I was in. I tried to warn him to move on in the mirror because I parked there, then he yelled for a bit and after a few cars piled up behind him he moved into another perfectly ok spot nearby. In my head I was thinking how is he getting angry with me, I’m not in the middle of the road or disrupting cars in any way. I mean, If I cant park in a parking spot then I don’t know where else it’s ok to park. After a few seconds we worked out the nav and left.
Anyway, I just wanted to know if I did something wrong? Are spots reserved? Once I left, I saw him yell and take the spot I was in.

Jsem invalidní posledních šest let, takže až dnes jsem zajel do Kauflandu a do Bily. Nestačil jsem se divit, o kolik jsou dražší než Rohlík & Košík! Až na čistící prostředky a alkohol tam bylo všechno dražší, vepřové maso (kupuji ho fakt hodně - carnivore diet) třeba i dvojnásobně! To mě v Příbrami fakt překvapilo + doprava a čas, vůbec mi to nedává smysl.

Hi, Dutch guy here. I am on a campsite near Pardubice where we are the only foreigners for some days now. I am wondering why local Czech people are using the only drinkingwatertap on the campsite to do the cleaning of the dishes...there a plenty other water taps with clear water (no sign of that being drinking water) available. Anyone know why?

Edit 1: We use the water tap (no drinking water sign there) to get water,boil it and wash the dishes with that. No drinkingwater wasted...but maybe we are exceptional in that behaviour.

Edit 2: the site has one specific drinkingwatertap sign and a lot of other water taps that don't have that sign. That circumstance gave me the impression that drinkingwater is scarce in Česká. Reading the comments I must have misinterpreted.

Hi! Does anyone who speaks czech could help me, please?

I'm reading notes from the gallows, by Julius Fučík in a few english and portuguese translations and I've noticed a few inconsistencies regarding the translation of the last phrase of the book:

Lidé, měl jsem vás rád. Bděte!

There's one translation that says "I loved you all, friends. Be on guard!". Another version translates it to "Mankind, I have loved you. Be vigilant!". Another to "Humans, I have loved you all. Be vigilant.!"

I was wondering: what would be the most accurate translation of the phrase in general, but, specially regarding the word lidé?

Chtěla bych se zeptat převážně mužů, jak vnímají pomáhání svým přítelkyním s domácími pracemi? (např. umývání nádobí, věšení prádla,..)

S přítelem jsem 2 roky a brzy se máme spolu stěhovat do bytu, jenže před pár dny mě nemile překvapil, když mi řekl, že s “holčičími věcmi” mi nebude pomáhat.

Uvařila jsem totiž oběd a po obědě nebyl schopný ani dát svůj talíř do myčky a raději ho nechal na lince přímo nad myčkou. Poté jsem se ho zeptala, jestli by neumyl pánev a on mi odvětil, že ne. Později mi řekl, že ji chtěl jít umyt, ale já jsem byla rychlejší a také, že neví, kde mame doma (u mých rodičů) houbičku (vždy je ve dřezu). Po obědě jsem ještě šla pověsit prádlo, kde bylo i jeho i moje oblečení. To už jsem se radši ani neptala jestli mi pomůže.

Bojím se, že až budeme bydlet spolu budu muset zvládat školu, práci a celou domácnost sama.

Jaký na to máte názor vy chlapci?
