anybody has any idea how something like this would be created?
Ive been listening to this allot and I want to know how a soundscape like this could be created, is this all live and improvised (excluding the drums) or did Zach sit down and make this on Ableton and then just improvised on it with his drums.
Dilemma chorus in 5/4 and 7/4 (maybe 8/4)?
Okay, so I've been on a bit of a quest to find and document the odd time signatures used in Death Grips songs. Currently on Year of the Snitch, and I'm pretty confident the chorus of Dilemma is in some kind of odd time signature, but I need some second opinions.
So far, I've confirmed the "thingany thingany, so jinx now" and similar bars are in 5/4 because the rhythm of those bars is a 3-3-2-2 accent pattern, a common type of rhythm found in 5/4 music.
It's the bar after that keeps tripping me up. Some days I count it as a bar of 7/4, others as a bar of 8/4. It's mainly Zach's drums that are making it hard for me to count along, since there's a lack of a strong downbeat during those sections, unlike the 5/4 bars.
I'm a fairly amateur musician, so my counting skills in uncommon times aren't the best, so if anyone can confirm or correct me, that would be great.
deathgrips x twin peaks mashup
hey guys I made you a mashup to tie you over until the album drop. twin peaks x dg works pretty good.
what should the steps be to introduce someone to death grips?
i was in a vc with a friend and randomly we talked abt what music we like, he told me rap and i told him that he should give crocodile tears by billy woods a try, he liked it, which then i told him to check out beware, he got into the video, everything seemed normal the only thing he said during the whole intro was "mhm, okay, well thats a guy pissing." (i told him it was steffy)
and right as the beat dropped, he instantly goes "oh?" and through the whole song he was just amazed, and now that i showed him that death grips exists, im wondering, what should i show him next? cuz i really want him to listen to birds but well, it aint gonna be so good when he goes from seeing such poetic lyrics to a fucking mc.suess lyrics
should i drag him to takyon? maybe guillotine? or maybe even bottomless pit since it kinda matches the way ride looks like someone who would beat the shit out of u if u say one wrong thing abt him?
(dw yall i told him ride is a cutey if he checks digs more to it)
so what do yall think?
(im very sorry for the grammar im stupid)
Help me am I insane
I'm doing my first listen of exmilitary in a good while - I've got to lord of the game and for some reason I could've SWORN the song was longer.
I have a weird thing where I remember song lengths and for some reason my mind was thinking 4:28. Then it comes in and it's only 3:30?
Is this bugged or am I bugged and insane
Favorite Cyborg Ride feat?
Everybody knows about Cyborg Ride. A multiverse variant of Ride from the future that teleported back in time to offer vocals to the esteemed trio (duo now 😢) to enhance their controversial & experimental sound.
Obviously best known for his verses on “Why a Bitch gotta Lie” which is also my personal favorite.
But real DG fans know his influence runs much deeper than just that track. What is your favorite Cyborg Ride influence?
New movie Is God Is, is an incredible movie with an incredible use of a Death Grips song. Go watch it!
The Powers That B (First Impressions
Death Grips 2015, The powers that B
Side A (NOTM) i can describe as uh... audibly incoherent. that's all i can really say. i like experimental rap; but this was overwhelming for the majority of the project
from the drums, the vocal chops from bjork, the lyrics
its all incoherent no clear structure
which isn't bad but is really hard to get onto
idk what to think on the first listen
imma have to give it a 6.5/10 for now but say hey kid has grown on me as of now
now side B (Jenny Death) is better for me and more put together for me
on gp is an amazing song and the over structure of the album is clearer, i also like WABGL
so side b gets a 7/10 so far
overall this is probably death grips most abrasive and brutal project even more than bottomless pit, as that project was chaotic but this is more sonically offensive imo
i have listened to death grips' money store and bottomless pit so far and im still putting bottomless pit as the top so far
Wtf I've never seen this
I was scrolling through Death Grips' Facebook page cuz I was bored and I found this. I've never seen this shirt before and most of the comments are just people shitting on it so maybe they never sold it due to the reaction? Idk.
Do you think Death Grips gonna ever tour again?
Tbh I would go apeshit if they would come to Hungary or even Europe.
I think they still have stamina and the new formation with Nick Reinhart is not fully utilized and discovered.
Any poet recs that are reminiscient of ride's lyrics?
His style seems very postmodernist so I'd like to read up on some similar stuff🤞
I found the Zach Hill necromancer kit!
I bought a Pearl rhythm traveler drum kit recently to build my own necromancer kit. But always saw people say the kit was a frankenkit. Turns out it’s not! It’s a Pacific Drums Short Stack kit with the wrap removed, apparently they’re quite rare but managed to find one for sale!
The snare was a Tama Power Metal Bronze piccolo snare. Managed to find that one as well, it is also a rare one, it was a Japan exclusive.
I ordered them both immediately, hoping to get them next week 😅
Edit: For the folks messaging me asking how i figured it out. It was the lugs. The early pacific drums had a specific lug style. It’s understandable why people think it’s a frankenkit though, he didn’t just remove the wrap, he removed the badges as well. But hilariously I’m pretty sure the one I ordered is the same color his originally was based on the drum hoop
Death Grips Ice Cream
Was at a work function tonight and they had an ice cream spade (scoop) or luggage tag we could get engraved as a souvenir (super random I know). We were limited to two words only so there was only one real choice. (Sorry, hotel lightning makes it hard to see without zooming in).
