Bored this weekend. anybody wanna meet up and hang out in the city?
Hey, M21 living near the city. I don’t really know many people here yet and I’ve had not much planned this weekend, so I’m just looking to get out, be a bit more social, connect with people my age, and make new friends.
If anyone’s around or heading into the city centre and fancies grabbing a coffee or just hanging out for a bit, let me know. Thanks.
Arrested for mental health and in cuffs wth!?!
So on Friday I was basically arrested/detained (photo taken by mate, my witness, of me wearing handcuffs, hurt really bad). I was detained under section 136 of the Mental Health Act 😕
My mum and dad called 999 on me and the police literally came, put me in handcuffs, whilst I was going through a panic attack, and took me away. After going through the process, I got let out on Sunday with a referral to a team to "look after me".
In this pic the cuffs are on my front, but about 10 mins later I was wearing them on the back after I went full panic mode and the officers changed my cuffs round and fucking tightened them like fuck.
Is this allowed under the law? Can the police do that to me when I’m going through a vulnerable time. They spent a rlly long time putting me through the restraint process which only amplified my mental health crisis and struggling.
Alanis gig at Powderham Castle
I'm super excited about seeing God Herself next month but a little unsure about travel costs on a very tight budget.
I'm thinking getting the train from Exeter to Starcross then walking but I've never been to the venue and tend to flap if I don't know where I'm going.
Can anyone offer advice please? How long is the walk? Is it signposted? Any hints and tips gratefully received. Thanks
Waste crime - new action taken
Hi all. Lots of people in Exeter have raised concerns with me about repeated instances of illegal dumping, particularly in Stoke Woods.
So I wanted to share that, under the Government's new Waste Crime Action Plan, waste criminals will face new sanctions including having to work in unpaid 'clean-up squads' to clear the streets and wild areas they have blighted. They will also be required to repay the cost of clearing the waste they illegally dumped.
Further, reforms introduced this week will move waste carriers, brokers and dealers from simple registration to a permit-based system - requiring identity checks, criminal record checks and proof of technical competence before a permit is granted. This will create a clear audit trail from collection to disposal, giving regulators the ability to track waste as easily as you can track a parcel. If someone pays to have their rubbish taken away, they should be confident it won't end up on their local streets or green spaces a week later. These changes give households that peace of mind.
This plan is a real step forward. Fly-tippers now know that if they dump their waste in Exeter, there will be real consequences - and I’ll be making sure those powers are used.
Any experience of the Stevens brothers (councillors for Exwick, St thomas and Alphington)?
Both brothers were elected to the county council last year.
They both own a number of bedsit properties. At least one of these properties has known drug dealers living there (hard drugs like crack cocaine).
There's a constant flow of "visitors", even at 3am, often arguing about money etc. Two recent incidents, men looking for someone who owed them money, carrying hand tools, apparently as weapons.
I've emailed the councillor who is the owner of that property and made him aware of drug dealing, associated crime, anti social behaviour and constant disturbance. Asked if he could address these issues.
He suggested I carry out surveillance and compile evidence on his behalf. I asked if he'd install a camera. They're inexpensive and useful evidence for police. As well as a potential deterrent to tenants who sell drugs.
His reaction was strange and unhelpful.
Rather than communicating with me. He wanted me to go on a political podcast he produces.
I wasn't comfortable with my identity being broadcast for drug dealers to know who complained about them. I also know editing can change a conversation, after the event.
Anyone else find this odd behaviour for county councillors?
Or had cause to contact either of these two? What was your experience?
EDIT: I also reported it to police. They don't appear to prioritise "small time" dealers. I had an email saying my report had been added to local intelligence.
Stoke hill
Hi all. I have been parking my car for last 2 years in this area and last 2 weeks has been very difficult to impossible finding a spot. Probably something to do with school/students schedule in the area or in the city... Does anyone know ? Thank you!
Need recommendations for a garage to carry out MOT in Exeter
Does anyone have a recommendation for a garage that's trustworthy and value for money in the Exeter area?
I've got a 10 year mercedes coming up for MOT and I think there's going to be a bit of work needed.

Anyone know why the M5 was closed this morning?
I was trying to get to work but the M5 was at a complete stop; does anyone know why?
Getting to Heathrow
Hello
I am relatively new to living in Exeter though have visited family here over the years
How do folks generally get to Heathrow? Do you take the train to Paddington and then take Heathrow express?
The few times I’ve taken the train between Exeter and London there have been delays and cancellations so I’m not sure how reliable the train is for making sure I get to the airport on time for a flight
I will also have several bags and have some disabilities- does anyone know if affordable car services are available?
Thanks so much for any help 🙏🏽
ETA: thanks everyone for your help 🤍
Parking spaces near Exeter city centre Tudor St
Hi, as the title says I'm looking for a parking space near Tudor St for ~8 weeks from the start of July. Is there anywhere I can park for free between 5pm and 8am, such as on the street (which I highly doubt, haven't found any street parking for more than a couple hours), or anywhere I can get a 1 or 2 month parking permit? How busy is the street parking around July (I'm assuming it is quite difficult to find a spot)? Appreciate any information.
Best Thai food
Anyone got any recommendations for the best Thai food in and around Exeter? Thanks all!
Saying goodbye to my first year in university with a photo walk around Exwick
Femme Book Club
Hey, all! I’m thinking of starting a book club for femmes. I want it to a UK thing, not just an Exeter thing, but as I’m currently based in Exeter, I thought I’d start here.
We would have monthly meetings (probably one in person and one online) where we discuss a book, but then maybe “socials” in between where we can bond over shared interests.
Anyone interested?
Seatbelt Cameras
Apart from the portable AI camera that moves across Devon & Cornwall, do any of the other Exeter cameras enforce seatbelt usage?
You see people driving around without them, do they just not enforce it in Exeter ?
Hockey clubs in the area
Hello I've recently moved to Exeter and am looking for an Exeter hockey club to join.
Does anyone have any experience with the clubs?
I've seen,
Exeter hockey club
Isca Hockey club
Culm valley hornets
Teign hockey club
Exeter university hockey club
I'm 30 male and not a student so assuming I can't join the university
I've just moved from London where I play national league so ideally I would want to play a good standard but don't have the time commitment so don't mind dropping down a league or 2.
What would people recommend?
