Is it the right time to get out?

Scenario: We have a 2021 max limited with tow package. We are a family of 5 and the plan was to tow with it. 4.5 years later and we have towed a few times, but I don’t see that happening too much going forward. We also have a kid leaving for school, so don’t NEED the space so much anymore. The truck has 59k miles and we have had the transmission rebuilt (hard to get dealer to do). We had a terrible dealer experiences which makes me worry about long term ownership. We have factory powertrain warranty extended to 80000 miles. Trying to decide on:
Option A: keep and get extended warranty. In this scenario we are still reliant on dealers diagnosing and fixing things. Still a pain in the…
Option B: get out while we still have a desirable trade in and get a grand Highlander or something else reliable…

My Employee Pricing Incentive Deal

Just wanted to share my employee pricing incentive deal… maybe it will help someone the next couple of days while this incentive is going on.

I ended up getting into a 2025 Active Max, 4WD, Space Silver exterior and Space Grey interior. It is equipped with the 202A package (with moonroof) and also had the 1-time connectivity package and the 1-year BlueCruise plan (MSRP = $76,130)

This was the color combo we wanted, but there were only two Expys with this color. Dealer A was about an hour away, and had a 2WD, that didn’t have the extra connectivity options, everything else was the same, except it was a 2026. (MSRP = $74,195).

I emailed Dealer A Wednesday evening to get their “best” pricing on their 2WD 2026. Their pricing sheet showed a discount of $8515 giving a purchase price of $65,680. With tax, title, license, and fees, they came back with an out-the-door price of $70,130.

I was happy with this price and asked them to hold it for a pickup on Friday.

As a backup, I also contacted Dealer B who was 3 hours away to get their techy 4WD 2025 price. Their initial offer showed a discount of $7,630 with a purchase price of $68,500 and an out the door price of $73,220. He also mentioned that while it was still “new” it did have 985 miles on it. He said it must have been used for a couple of extended weekend test drives… but it wasn’t a courtesy or demo vehicle. Either way, tech subscriptions and warranty would start on purchase.

I emailed back, and said I thought a 2025 would have a bigger discount and mentioned that I was also looking at a 2026 with discount of $8515.

Dealer B responded and said thanks for giving him a second chance, and showed a discount of $9030, giving a purchase price of $67,100 and a new out-the-door price of $71,730.

I was really hoping for the 2025 to come in a little closer in price to the 2025. I again replied, but Dealer B said he couldn’t go any lower. I told him I was going to go with the 2026 had lined up. The choice was initially because the 2026 was closer, and that it had a newer model year.

Thursday morning, Dealer A called and said they had their 2026 2WD in the back, off the lot and wanted contact information to start the paperwork. I sent everything they needed over. Later, in the afternoon, Dealer A called and said “Uhhh, looks like we sold that vehicle last night.” He offered to find another comparable vehicle. But we were pretty set on the Space Silver with the light interior, and I knew these were the only two witching about 750 miles of where I live.

So, I wasn’t happy about the situation, but wasn’t going to cry too much about it. I immediately called Dealer B and caught him on his way out the door.

I told him the situation. He said the 2025 4WD was still available, and he had the keys on his desk. I told him to get it ready for us to pick up in the morning.

My wife and I drove in and around 10:00 he called to get some information for paperwork. We already had our own financing lined up, so they didn’t need much from us. It’s too bad Ford couldn’t provide any additional incentives for using their financing, but that’s on them I suppose.

We arrived to the lot at 11:00. Took a 15 minute test drive, checked everything over. Since there were 1000 miles on the engine, I also asked them to change the oil, and they obliged.

We were out the door with the keys by 12:30. Fastest and easiest deal I’ve made since I picked up my F150 in 2018.

In all, I think we got a pretty good deal. The 4WD and tech packages added about $4200 in extras over the 2WD 2026 and the out the door price was only about 1700 more.

I think in 10 years or so, if/when I’m looking to sell, I think the 2025 with 4WD will be worth a bit more than a 2026 2WD.

Anyway, hope this helps someone.

Expedition Tremor vs Raptor

Those of you who have owned both or shopped both, what's the better family vehicle? Family of 5 (mom/dad, 5 year old, expecting #2, 70lb dog).

We've owned 3 Raptors (2 gen 1's and a gen 2), loved em, never had any issues.

We're relocating from Utah to San Diego in 2 months or so. We spend a lot of time outdoors and expect that to continue in SD.

What's the better long term play?

2024 Platinum Expedition

Hello everyone,

Just joined and wanted to pose a question to the group. I have an opportunity to buy a 2024 Platinum Expedition w/ 16k miles for just over $61,000. The vehicle in question is a former dealership service loaner. This appears to be a good deal (maybe too good?) but I want to know any thoughts or opinions of the vehicle itself as well as the price. This will be my first ford vehicle that is not a 3/4 or one tone vehicle.

2026 Tremor Deal

Just signed on a new 26 Tremor with the 501A package - dealer was originally at $78.2k (MSRP $84.5k) but was able to find another dealer a bit further away offering an identical vehicle for $74.9k and they matched it. No adds, standard doc fee, OTD in PA (6% tax) for $80.2k. Seems like we made a solid buy but just curious what others are seeing now that 27s are being advertised.

2018-2021 Expedition, Explorer, F-150, Aviator & Navigator Transmission Recall 26V402

This is sort of a big one. I will look into this more but there's a similar issue with newer Fords like the 2025 Explorer at least in terms of rollaway.

What: The transmission parking pawl may temporarily engage while the vehicle is in motion, potentially damaging the park system.

Why: If park system damage occurs and the Electronic Parking Brake doesn't apply, the vehicle can roll away unintentionally while in Park.

Cause: The transmission valve body separator plate may restrict flow to the park valve, causing temporary park pawl engagement when certain shifts are commanded.

Scope: 741,195 total vehicles; estimated 1% with defect; 282 field reports and 13 VOQs identified across affected models. Ford is aware of 24 property damage allegations and 9 alleged injuries (2 emotional injury claims).

Production Dates:

  • 2018-2021 Ford Expedition (246,202 units): March 14, 2017 - July 27, 2021
  • 2020-2021 Ford Explorer (313,147 units): October 28, 2018 - November 9, 2021
  • 2018-2021 Lincoln Navigator (59,079 units): March 16, 2017 - May 24, 2021
  • 2020-2021 Lincoln Aviator (40,197 units): October 25, 2018 - August 25, 2021
  • 2021 Ford F-150 (82,570 units): January 8, 2020 - October 8, 2021

Fix: Dealers will update the Powertrain Control Module software and inspect/replace damaged transmission components as needed, free of charge. Note: a full remedy is not yet available; a stop-sale/delivery hold is in effect on new in-stock inventory, and the dealer bulletin with repair instructions is expected by June 21, 2027.

Owner letters: Interim letters expected August 3-7, 2026. Remedy letters expected in phases, with the noted phase running April 5-9, 2027.

Part Number Help - Engine Coolant Crossover Gaskets

Hopefully someone knows this, I am in the middle of putting the Full Race turbo coolant line kit on a 2017 Expedition and have found the only way to get to the fittings on the back of the engine is to go over the top and remove the intake manifold and coolant crossover. My guess is the gaskets used are one time use and once I remove this part to gain access I will need to replace the gaskets. Problem is I can not find a part number for those gaskets.

The whole cross over is Engine Coolant Outlet Flange - Ford (DL3Z-8C368-A) it shows two squared off gaskets. Am I stuck buying the whole part to get the gaskets?

In addition I would love to know the long pipe gasket/oring as well. Shown as a red orange in the pictures.

Thanks for any help. appreciate any info and or tips if you have done this as well.

O2 sensor replacement

Back story: 9 months ago had O2 sensors replaced. Since then CEL has come on and very intermittently. Took it back in and they said plugs and coil pack #6. We replaced these on our own. CEL still coming on. Nailed it down to it happening after getting gas, sometimes getting low on gas, and most recently started shuttering while I was driving. Took back to the dealership and they are saying O2 sensors need to be replaced because they are non OEM O2 sensors. And they wanted $900 to replace these two. Any one heard of this? Do the O2 sensors need to be OEM? I think the first time they were replaced they were purchased from Autozone.

I’m still not 100% convinced it’s this. I was thinking purge valve.

In March the codes that it was throwing were:
P0304, P0305, P0316, P2197
I didn’t ask what codes it was pulling this time. The ford apps usually either tells me a misfire or a fault has occurred when the CEL comes on.

Any through or advice is appreciated!

2024 Platinum Issues

I have a 2024 Platinum which I love, however from day one it’s had a bunch of electronic issues that no one has been able to fix. Has anyone else experienced this?

Here are some of the issues that are intermittent:

Passenger side view mirror does not deploy (scary because I don’t notice it sometimes till I need it)

CarPlay connects but no volume

CarPlay connects but only one speaker goes live

CarPlay comments but screen freezes

CarPlay connects but the steering wheel controls for volume and tracking don’t work

CarPlay won’t connect

The auto start climate control will make the car cold when it’s cold outside and hot when it’s already hot outside (I’ve tried both setups in the menu)

Passenger window losses it’s auto one button up

Driver seat settings change one their own

I thinks there’s more but that’s the main list. Any help or advice would be appreciated or if maybe this is a known issue?

Thank you!

Cloth seats with little kids?

Expedition max shopping for 3 rear facing car seats and wondering if we REALLY should bump up to platinum just for the non-cloth seats? Are the cloth seats in the Active hard to clean? Comfortable?

I want to lift my 2021 expedition max

I’m looking for exact links to the kits you are actually running please! And I’d love to know how you like it? Ideally I want 3” lift and 35’s but 33’s might be safer. Always ran 35’s on my f150’s cheers!
