Holy Cross Vs. Georgetown

Hi,

I am currently in between the College of The Holy Cross and Georgetown University for govt and classics. (I had an extended deadline due to personal family reasons)

It has mainly come down to weighing cost and opportunities of the two.

On the one hand, I really love Georgetown and the environment and know it has an elite network and opportunities for internships and connections.

The big asterisk comes from the fact that going there would involve significant student debt in the range of 50k after working over the school year/summer and graduating a semester early.

With Holy Cross because of the scholarship received and parental contribution, I would be left with a 5k/yr manageable deficit that I could easily work off.

Also in terms of credits I would have about a semester done at gtown but abt 2.5 from holy cross.

My biggest fear is honestly is if my trajectory would be significantly altered by choosing one school over the other and how that would affect my future career path.

Fit wise there both Jesuit and I think I’d be fine in that aspect regardless of which of the institutions.

Right now I’m pretty certain abt polisci but don’t know what career id wanna pursue be it law, academia, public policy, or govt work. I do want to pursue a graduate degree tho.

I think also a kinda part of it is that I had turned down Cornell for Georgetown or Holy Cross already (bc cost wise it was the same ti gtown but less fit for me personally) so I have been wrestling with asking why I am turning down an Ivy for a smaller LAC.

I just wanted to hear peoples opinions and advice they’d have for me.

Thank you for your time!

Hi everyone,

You are recommended to take part in the 'AI Use in College Learning Survey.' This study will help us learn more about the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in your college learning process and the role that these tools shape your academic experiences.

This research is being conducted with a professor in Ocean County College.

This survey is voluntary; if you decide to take part in this survey, you will be asked to answer eighteen (18) questions (17 multiple-choice questions and one short response question), which will take around 10-15 minutes to complete.

You can find the survey here:

- By clicking this link AI Use in College Learning Survey, to access it directly.

- By copying and pasting this URL https://forms.gle/ZubsCJabNRVLpVhA7.

If you are not currently enrolled in any college or university, then you are not advised to take part in this survey. Nevertheless, you are encouraged to share this survey with an eligible respondent.

Before responding here are some important things to note before attempting the survey.

The questions included will be related to:

  • Your academic background (only includes your age group, academic level, and area of study)
  • Frequency of AI tools used and which tools you use
  • Uses of AI in your academic studies
  • Your opinions about the use of AI tools in learning and academic achievements
  • View about academic integrity and concerns related with the use of AI tools

Please note that:

  • All data you provided will be kept confidential and will not identify you in any way.
  • Only information related to your age, academic level, and your major will be collected.
  • Information including your email, name, gender, where you study, and other sensitive information will not be collected.
  • The software 'Google Forms' will require you to sign in for you to complete the survey; we will not collect your email addresses.
  • You have the option to skip certain questions and leave the survey at any time you want, and there will be no consequences for you if you decide not to answer the questions.
  • You will not be entered into any draws for prizes. There is no financial incentive to complete this survey.

We appreciate your time and cooperation.

Regards,

A student from Ocean County College

safe items at Leo’s?

I’m a rising freshman and I’ve heard so many horror stories about food poisoning so I was wondering if there’s anything I should specifically avoid or eat?

Georgetown SFS vs

Hello everyone!!!❤️

I recently was accepted to Georgetown SFS for International Politics, and was all set to go, before suddenly receiving an acceptance to Stanford for Political Science!!!! I was really looking forward to DC, as I love how accessible the city is, and the direct pathway/opportunities you can get at Georgetown to the government are absolutely unparalleled, even among HYPSM and other Ivies. I doubt that there's any better school to go to for anything under the international relations wing, and if you want to get a PoliSci job right out of undergrad. But, Stanford is Stanford. I feel like it'd be naïve to ignore the prestige and, consequently, those connections. I also do have family in the Bay Area, so I'd have a support system, but I was looking forward to the independence at DC and I feel being there would be better for growth. Also, I do have family near the DC area, albeit much further away than they would be at Stanford, so I wouldn't be completely alone. Weather isn't much of a concern for me - while I do enjoy all four seasons, and can very well deal with the cold, I'm not entirely averse to having sun 24/7 if it means I get to attend Stanford. I was only able to walk Georgetown's campus, but I'll be having an official prospective student's tour for Stanford in the upcoming weeks. One of my only worries is at Georgetown, because I'd be SFS, it would be too pre-professional and I wouldn't really be able to explore all my interests. Still, right now, career-wise, I really like the idea of going into diplomacy and again, you can't beat SFS in international relations - there's no doubt I'd be incredibly well prepared. But Stanford opens so many doors across a broad range of fields, and its political science department is nothing to scoff at. My other concern about Stanford is it's sort of a bubble and I really do love the fact that DC is *right there* at Georgetown. I feel like whichever option I pick, I'll regret not choosing the other - there are such unique, special opportunities at both. For reference, I'm a transfer! Has anyone else here faced a similar decision and picked Georgetown over another competitive school? If so, why?

How do I plan courses?

Hello, I'm an incoming freshman and am really confused about planning for classes. For context, I'm a premed at CAS, and looking at the classes I need to take for the MCAT, as well as the core, I'd be taking like 18 credits minimum per semester, which is way too many. From my understanding, I need to finish the core before junior year, and if I want to take the MCAT junior year, I'd want most of my premed classes done before junior as well.

I was wondering if I could get some help or direction? I know I'm doing things wrong but I don't know why.

I got an email from the admissions office a little over an hour ago, saying there was a status update with a decision. Upon checking the portal, theres no status update at all. Does anyone know anything about this? For reference, I applied to the public policy program.
