Workspace for Sole Proprietor Business

Hello. I run a consulting business as a sole proprietor (no employees). I currently have a (paid) Business Starter Workspace. I have one email address but I need multiple addresses. I understand that each email address is now $8, which also includes the full suite of products. Since I am the only one using the Workspace, is there a way to have multiple email addresses without paying more? Would aliases solve this problem?

ETA: I should have searched better. I found this, which answers my question. Sorry for the stupid question. https://knowledge.workspace.google.com/admin/users/add-or-delete-an-alternate-email-address-email-alias

Change in google sheets logo

I hope many of you might have noticed the change in google sheets logo recently, but I'm wondering why some sheets have the same old logo but few are with new logo.

Is it best to do a Google Workspace account with a free gmail?

I have several custom domains for different side businesses that I want to connect to Google Workspace. I just learned I can add them all to a single Workspace account as aliases, which got me thinking about an exit strategy.

If I set up Workspace using one of my existing free Gmail accounts and add the custom domains as aliases, would I retain access to all my past emails through the free Gmail if I ever stopped paying for the domains or cancelled Workspace? Same idea if I wanted to switch to a different email provider. Could I just remove the aliases, cancel Workspace, and still be left with the free Gmail intact while moving the domains somewhere else?

Looking for a Google Workspace Partner

Hi there, I'm looking for a Google Workspace partner to help me with a task.

I'm assisting a client who has their Google Workspace with an existing partner who has unfortunately gone bust.

The client wishes to go to direct billing to Google.

Google have informed me the only way for this to happen is if I create a transfer token to another Google Workspace partner.

Then from there the new partner will set the account to direct billing with Google.

I've tried to get some larger/medium sized companies to do this but they're not keen because it's only a small account. (3 emails within it)

Although my client is a charity, I have some funds myself to pay for this task.

It's something that isn't actually under my contract with the client and I stuck my hand up (probably stupidly) to help because they're not very technical themselves.

I'd love to get it done and dusted and off my desk.

Anyone here, who is a Google Workspace partner that would like to give me a message and see if they can do this for me?

Please note that we are not actually looking for another partner to take over the account and provide it from then on, just to take it over temporarily using a transfer token and then set direct billing to Google.

Cheers Malc

How to buy Google AI products now that Pro and Ultra are unavailable to us?

Google IO introduced many exciting features. Everything will be first available to "AI Pro" and "AI Ultra" customers.

Apparently Google Workspace users are 2nd-class citizens: not only those features are not available, but we are not even allowed to purchase "AI Pro" or "AI Ultra" plans any more.

Trying to research, I bumped to announcement: "The Ultra AI Access add-on is no longer available for purchase and will be removed from Workspace accounts starting on July 7, 2026."

And it guides "Consider subscribing to Gemini Enterprise to continue using Gemini Code Assist and Gemini CLI." And that I might also need "AI Expanded Access".

If I understood correctly, "AI Expanded Access" is not giving access to the new features introduced at Google IO.

And to buy "AI Expanded Access", I would need to upgrade to one of these:

  • Google Workspace Business Standard
  • Google Workspace Business Plus
  • Google Workspace Enterprise Standard
  • Google Workspace Enterprise Plus

But the only "Gemini Enterprise" tier available on their website is called "Gemini Enterprise Business Edition" (not on the list) unless I have IT department.

And to make things even more confusing, Google Antigravity says "This account isn't eligible for Google Antigravity benefits included with Google AI plans" and guides "Google Cloud customers can now access Antigravity 2.0 and CLI with Gemini Enterprise Platform".

AI agents suggest just buying another personal account for AI Ultra, but that would not have access to my workspace; and thus would miss half of the benefits.

Has anyone figured out how to purchase AI features from Google?

Accidentally a Google Drive deleted a folder owned by someone else

Safe to say, I'm a bit desperate since the folder had A LOT of important stuff in it.

A folder was shared with me by a classmate and within it was another big folder(that he created) full of files related to a project we're working on. I accidentally deleted the folder inside the project folder and pressed ctrl+z to undo it, but nothing happened. I've checked the Trash section and it's not there. I've checked everywhere in my Drive and I can't find it anymore. I open the parente-folder that housed the folder I deleted and it's still empty.

However, I've been able to find some loose files that I had created inside that shared folder I deleted. When I check the Activities tab, it gives me the following message: "Due to a change in a parent folder, access was restricted on an item."

Is there a way to recover that folder? Is it gone for good?

Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

Person who had admin account left but is still active, what do I do?

I have a client that wanted me to change their hosting and after doing so, I needed an auth key from google workspace in order for them to receive emails again. Apparently my client doesn’t have admin acces and the one who had left the firm. I cannot promote another user to admin since the recovery page tells me the admin is still active and to contact him. How do I proceed in promoting another user to admin or recovering the initial admin account?

Workspace DKIM configured but no DKIM-Signature

I'm trying to configure my legacy G Suite GMail to use DKIM authentication for my custom domain.

Currently no DKIM-Signature header is being added to outbound emails, and therefore the authentication result is dkim=none. Confirmed with manual header inspection, and dmarctester.com. Have also noticed there is a X-Google-Dkim-Signature in the headers, but that looks like an additional thing, rather than replacing the standard DKIM mechanism?

There's a valid SPF record, and the DMARC policy is currently none, so email is still being delivered, but I still want DKIM to be active.

In the Workspace admin settings -> Authenticate Email, it currently says "Status: Authenticating email with DKIM.". There's a corresponding DNS text record google._domainkey.<mydomain>.com using the details from that admin page. A lookup of the DNS record with mxtoolbox shows that it's a character for character match, and is a valid DKIM record.

I've tried removing the DNS record completely, generating a new DKIM key in the Workspace admin page, re-adding the DNS record, and starting authentication again. There's greyed out Cancel & Save buttons at the bottom of that Admin Authentication Email page, but I'm guessing that's normal?

Any other things I can try to get Workspace to use DKIM?

How is everyone handling the dreaded Authuser=0 (multiple accounts) bug in Apps Script add-ons?

Hey everyone,

I wanted to open a discussion on handling one of the most notorious and frustrating limitations in Google Apps Script add-on development: the multiple accounts Authuser=0 trap.

The Context: My team recently launched a Workspace management add-on. Shortly after launch, we onboarded an enterprise client who left a great review but immediately reported a frustrating "nitpick": he's logged into multiple Google Workspace accounts, while he's accessing the add-on with his second logged account, the sidebar of our add-on was selecting the default account of their browser rather than the account actually linked to the active spreadsheet.

After consulting with my lead dev, we realised we were dealing with a platform-level infrastructure issue, and not a bug in our code.

The Trap: As most of you know, when a user is juggling multiple Google accounts in one Chrome window (e.g., u/0/, u/1/), Google Apps Script's HtmlService often gets completely confused by the session cookies. If they open the sheet with a secondary account, the underlying iframe still forces the add-on to authenticate using the Default account (authuser=0).

The result is massive user confusion, as the sidebar displays data or permissions for the completely wrong account.

No Workaround Found: We searched high and low but couldn't find a native programmatic patch to force the iframe to respect the active document's user context. So we advised the client to perform their admin operations inside a dedicated Chrome Profile or an Incognito window.

My Questions for the Community: Since we want to provide the smoothest UX possible, I’m curious how other devs here are tackling this:

  1. The "Holy Grail" Fix: Has anyone found a reliable native workaround, undocumented parameter, or JS hack to force HtmlService to respect the active authuser index?
  2. User Experience (UX): Do you preemptively warn users about this in your UI/onboarding flow, or do you just document it in your FAQs and wait for the support tickets to roll in?
  3. Google's Roadmap: Has anyone who talks to Googlers heard any whispers on whether this is ever getting patched at the infrastructure level?

Would love to hear your thoughts, workarounds, and war stories regarding this bug!

API usage mistake cost me $780, any way to fix this?

I was using the Places API (New) for my master’s thesis on tourism in Algeria. I understood there was a $200 monthly free credit, so I began my data collection accordingly.

However, I miscalculated the number of API calls required. I ran my data collection script and monitored the billing dashboard, but when I did not immediately notice charges increasing, I left the script running. When I returned, I found that I had incurred over $780 in charges.

This was an unintentional mistake and my first time using the service at this scale. Is there a way to request that Google waive these charges in this case?

Workspace Super Admin Hacked

I need help and I haven’t been able to get it yet from support. Our business Workspace super admin account was hacked, so we filed a report with Google and have verified our domain through CNAME and TXT records. Google is still not allowing me access to the account and just keep sending me the same Knowledge Test that I don’t know the answers to.

They are sending me the same messages over and over again and sending me in one giant loop all while our account has been temporarily disabled and 25 of our users have lost all of their data and been locked out of emails.

Income (USD) expectations for a Workspace developer who recently graduated?

I run a small behavioral health practice in the U.S. (10 providers). My wife introduced me to a newbie developer who recently got an undergraduate degree in data science. He knows Tableau and Python mainly. I've been wanting to upgrade the dashboard our providers use (Sheets) and it seems like a good project for him to get some real-world experience with, he's currently delivering pizzas. I want to pay him a fair wage. What do you think someone with his knowledge and experience should earn. We're in Portland, OR, which is fairly expensive, but not crazy expensive like San Fran or Seattle, etc.

Google Drive permissions become surprisingly hard to manage at scale

Google Workspace makes collaboration incredibly easy, but over time that convenience can create a lot of visibility problems around file access and sharing. Shared folders continue circulating between teams, external collaborators retain access long after projects end, and public links often remain active far longer than originally intended. In larger environments, permissions gradually expand through inherited access and ongoing collaboration until nobody is fully confident about who can still access sensitive files. The difficult part is that even with audit logs and admin controls available, maintaining a clear real-time view of effective access across the environment becomes increasingly hard to manage manually as organizations scale. Thats probably why more companies are starting to look at SaaS governance and SSPM platforms like DoControl for better visibility into external sharing and permission exposure across Google Workspace environments.

Custom domain through google workspace

Hi

I'm in the process of setting up a local business through google workspace, and they offer a custom domain (through squarespace). The price is cheap but I'm wary of renewal fee biting me.

I'm wondering if their renewal fees are reasonable to buy through google now, or should i get one from cloudflare or porkbun first?

Thanks

Chrome Remote Desktop extension blank window options

Anyone else seeing this when using chrome remote desktop, specifically Windows 11, when I open My PC, I see the Window with blank options so not showing the back/forward arrows or search bar etc. I can blindly click on the buttons if I know where they are and they work but something wrong with it being visually displayed.
