Buying my first Gretsch and i have some questions

I just ordered a Streamliner G2420T in Fairlaine Blue.

i am starting with an entry level because i have always played solid bodies and i want to make sure i like a hollowbody as well as i would like something to tinker with and not be worried about damaging a $2-3k guitar.

i would like your opinions on this model.

-Is it good or should i have purchased a better model?

-what are common problems i should expect when receiving it?

-What upgrades would you recommend? pickups, bridge, bigsby, tuning machines???

thanks in advance and i am open to all opinions .. good or bad.

Question: Replacement Bridge option for gold hardwared Synchromatic Falcon

Hello everyone!

After some time, and after taking a few radius measurements of the OEM Tune-o-matic bridge, I’m at a crossroads: either I try to get the saddle depth right, or I switch to a different bridge completely.

The reasons are: a slight string rattle on the low E side, and the center strings sitting at a less-than-ideal height, while the low and high E seem to be okay. Funny enough, muting also seems to be a bit tricky on this particular bridge, while on my other guitars I can do it quite alright (Well, maybe the shape of the guitar and my hand position are the parts of the reason too.)

I was looking at the Compton brass bridge, but unfortunately, with delivery and taxes, the total cost might be a bit painful since I’m in the EU.

So, my question is: what are some good rocking bar bridges, or similar options, that are available in the EU? Ideally, I’m looking for a drop-in replacement.

Thanks in advance!

Worth trying to restore these SSB Gretsch ?

Came upon this Gretsch stop sign era kit and wondering what the path to recovery looks like? Must be a fusion/rock set -they're 24x14, 14x10, 14x10, 16x16. Wish they were different sizes but am still curious to see what sound and playing I can get out of them.

Cosmetically they're really rough, but it seems like the shells aren't too bad ? The bass drum has suffered the worst, but the edges on the toms might be okay. I don't really know though so I would love any opinions. All I can say is that running my finger around the edges, the toms are smooth. The hoops won't be cheap to replace, but I'm willing to invest if they'll sound like they should.

My new gigging guitar

Went into a guitar store to try out a P90 Revstar but went home with this. From the first strum I knew I had to get it - the feel of the neck is amazing and the attack when you hit the strings really sold me - It will get its first run live this Friday's at our gig.

Gretsch G5420TG set up advice + what’s it worth?

Hey everyone, I’m still learning and I recently got a Gretsch G5420TG

I really like it, but I feel like it could probably play a lot better with the right setup. I’m still learning so I don’t really know what I should be adjusting or what’s considered normal.

Is it worth taking one of these in for a proper professional setup? And are there any common things people usually change or upgrade on this model?

Also I’ve seen the prices online go from normal to absolutely insane, so I’m a bit confused — what’s a realistic second hand price for one in good condition in the uk?

Cheers

Narrowing Down My Choices

I am looking at a modern version of the original Duo Jet that Grestch brought out to challenge the original Les Paul.

The 6228 seems close enough.

Is this an analogue of the original?

ProNashville in Midnight Sapphire

I got this back late last year from my Local Shop. When I first saw it, I thought it was green. It's blue, for sure but it can pick up other colors around and it shifts.

I changed a few things right away. I prefer the feel of Grovers and the bridge pickup was a bit too muddy for my tastes. I had a TV Jones bridge PU out of a early Brian Setzer in my box of parts. That got it to where I like it. I had a bit of inspiration to make a fandango psychobilly version of "Smoke".

Interesting 5420

Hello all, I found this 5420 for sale near me and was wondering if anyone had info on it. I can’t seem to find any quite like this one. My assumption is that it’s a standard Korean guitar with aftermarket gold bigsby and tort pick guard/pup covers/truss rod cover added. But I was curious if I was unaware of a particular run someone may have information on. Also am I crazy, or do the pickups appear to be slightly crooked? I have reached out to the seller btw, but have not heard anything back yet! Thanks in advance all

UK options for bigsby bridge?

Any suggestions for replacement bridge for my 6120? Can't seem to get Tru Arc in the UK since F Holes doesn't seem to be trading anymore

NGD and my first Gretsch

Picked this Japanese 2004 6120. It was a bit filthy when it turned up. Restrung it. The neck is something else. Is there a safe way of cleaning the hardware. Hit it with a microfibre cloth and some elbow grease.

What is your favorite Gretsch headstock design?

For me, it has to be the large penguin/falcon headstock with the logo and wing inlays. Classy retro bling!

NGD! Gretsch white penguin

Gretsch white penguin! Is the final guitar I wanted to add to my collection. I’m 26 and I never thought I’d ever get two of my grail guitars.

Today I joined the Gretsch family

After playing my Ibanez GIO for the last ~10 years, I wanted an upgrade. Something that feels different from what I am used to. After searching online for much longer than I care to admit, I found the Electromatic Premier Jet in the Clairvoyant finish.

I fell in love with it as soon as I saw that chameleon finish and the overall aesthetic of the guitar. I read through the specs and I knew that it would be the guitar for me.

I'm afraid these pictures don't do justice to just how gorgeous this guitar is in reality. It plays like a dream, the compound radius is really great and the Sphera Twin Six humbuckers cover everything I could ever need.

The neck really surprised me, because it's not a lot thicker than my Ibanez. It's really really comfortable to play, and the ebony fretboard feels so nice and smooth.

Overall there are no flaws with this guitar and I couldn't be happier. If you are currently on the fence about trying the Electromatic Premier Jet: go for it. In my humble opinion, its such an amazing guitar.

Let me know if there's any questions I might be able to answer if you want to know more about the guitar. Cheers!
