Help understanding IEC better

Greetings! I’m a 24 year old with a Portuguese passport, currently living in Shenzhen, China. I’m pretty unhappy here and I’ve been thinking about other opportunities for me. I already lived in Montreal for 8 months, and used to be able to speak quebecois french very well, but it was 7 years ago. My time in Montreal was by far the best time in my life, and I always had a dream of going back, but thought it was impossible.

Now I graduated International Relations and currently work with sourcing in Shenzhen, and found out about IEC, and I’m pretty excited about this. I see a lot of people in here are very supportive, and I would be extremely glad if you could help me with some points:

- What are the chances of getting approved/rejected? They did not ask me anything about my personal/professional/academic life

- How hard is to get a job in Canada nowadays? Can you live OK with not a lot of money? Is the market for logistics/procurement open to foreigners?

- How long does it usually takes? If I’m approved I have to go immediately or can I wait?

Thank you very much, and for everyone that is in this process, good luck

Too cautious £$

I’m planning on moving to Canada to become a trucker. I have only just passed my class 1 in the uk and will do 3-4 years here first.

I plan to do 3-4 years so I can save money, I’m looking at having between £50-70,000 GBP which would put me hopefully around $100,000 CAD.

I’m doing this as I’m aware of the cost of the living, paying for my truck licence, time finding a job, and the cost of buying and running a car.

Am I being a little bit excessive with waiting so long to have that much saved up and should I just take the leap and go earlier with less funds.

It’s worth adding Im looking no at Winnipeg as the best trucking opportunity and best chance to get PR (if I enjoy it) and the saved money would one day go towards a house hopefully if I have any left and can save from trucking.

I need some advice regarding expired POE please, I keep finding conflicting information online

Hi guys,

Hope you all are well!
I was in Toronto for a couple of months at the start of last year and when I came home (Ireland) I decided I wanted to go back on the two year IEC visa so I applied for it and got accepted.

Life has got in the way this past year and unfortunately I didn't get to go which I am really annoyed about. But, instead of flying over just to activate the visa I decided to let my POE expire. The reason I chose to let it expire is that I didn't really want the 2 year timer to start without been 100% sure when I can actually go.

So my question now is, do I have to start from the beginning again? Just re-enter the pool and hope to receive an invitation? Or does anyone know of anything else I can do?
Thanks guys!

IEC Health Insurance

Hi, hoping to get any info I can. I have health insurance for 1 year with one insurer and hoping to purchase another year with another insurer. As long as I purchase it before entering Canada and there isn’t any gaps between the two. Will I be allowed to stay 2 years?

IEC Working Holiday Visa - System showing I have a job offer when I selected “No”

Hi everyone,

I’m from the UK and recently received an invitation to apply for the IEC Working Holiday category on 15th of June just 4 days after entering the pool.

The problem is that when I completed my original profile, I am 100% certain that I selected “No” when asked if I had a job offer and when I go back to look at my original application to the pool it definitely says no so I didn’t answer yes in error. However, now that I’m filling out my actual application, the form has the answer greyed out as “Yes”, and I can’t change it.

Because of this, I can’t submit my application correctly.

My invitation clearly says Working Holiday, so I’m really confused about why it’s showing that I have a job offer when I don’t.

I’ve already submitted web forms to IRCC but have only received generic replies, and my invitation expires in about 7 days, so I’m starting to panic. I really don’t want to have to decline and then try again as I know that I was very lucky to get an invitation so quickly.

Has this happened to anyone else before? If so:

Were you able to get it corrected and how?
Does anybody have any phone numbers that work to speak to an actual human?
Did IRCC fix it for you?
Did you have to decline your invitation and re-enter the pool?
If you did decline, were you invited again?

Any advice or experiences would be hugely appreciated. Thank you!

IEC Work Permit Traffic History

Hello! Seeking some advice about applying for an IEC Work Permit in Canada as an Australian.

Back when I was 18 I made a huge mistake and got a DUI. I was driving the day after drinking and got into a minor accident where no one was injured. The court decided it wouldn’t be on my criminal record and I participated in the QLD Traffic Offenders program and had an interlock in my car for 12 months. The Judge decided this because I was so young, it was an isolated incident, and my current and future positive contributions to society outweighed the mistake.

3 and a half years later I have moved on, got my life together, and am applying for the IEC Work Permit Visa to work a ski season next year. The process so far has been smooth sailing, but now they are requesting a copy of my traffic history (which is something they only ask of people from VIC and QLD). When I initially applied they asked if I had ever been convicted of a crime, which I said “No” bc the DUI wasn’t put on my criminal record. I have no criminal record or any other reason for the Visa to be declined. I am not going to rent a car, get an international drivers permit, or drive while in Canada.

My question is, should I just share my traffic history and trust that they will see the court’s decision and it will be fine because they will also see the federal police check which came back clear? Should I share the traffic history, along with a letter explaining the situation and the court’s decision? Or am I cooked and should give up hope bc my Visa application is going to be declined?

Any advice, similar situations, or tips are greatly appreciated!

Job hunting before arrival

Hello

Just curious if anyone with experience recommends to look and apply to jobs before arriving? The current job market looks rough especially for people in my age (21) and I’m worried I could be looking for jobs for 6+ months, I’ll be arriving in Calgary specifically for reference.

Thanks !

Questions to Working holiday visa

Good afternoon Everyone,

I am planning to apply to working holiday visa with my italian citizenship.

I am currently preparing all the documents before submitting my profile so I can be prepared and get an approval as soon as possible

As far as I am aware, the documents are
-Valid passport
-Residence certificate and address in italy
-Police certificates form countries I have lived since 18 years old (and official translation)
-CV
-Savings and paying the fees

Now, I understand all this and this is great and achievable

I have seen some post as well of Canada requiring you 10 years of travel history? Is this usually a requirement?
Why did some people get this requirement and some others didn’t?

I am wondering if anyone could explain to me If I am missing any of the documents from my list above and why exactly people get this request of travel history?

Any help clarification would be greatly appreciated

Thanks a lot :)

UK biometrics time

Hey guys! I’m wondering if anyone here has submitted biometrics recently from the UK and already received a POE? I’ve noticed some people say they’ve gotten it within 24 hours and others take a few weeks (though the official time is up to 5 weeks!) Just curious to learn about your experience!

IEC Entry to Canada – Insurance Question

Hi everyone,
I’m an Australian citizen and I’ve received my Canadian Work Permit Letter of Introduction. My letter says my medical examination is “N/A”, and I’m planning to travel to Canada soon.
I’m a bit confused about health insurance.
Do I need to purchase private health insurance before I enter Canada.

I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who has gone through this process, especially other Australians or IEC/work permit holders.

Driver's license in BC

Full UK license for less than a month
Sorry if this is not the place to post this I just can't find any info...

Hey everyone, I wasn't sure who to ask as I'm getting confused online.

I'm British, moving to Canada soon with an IEC visa.
I got my full manual UK driver's license a month ago and it seems like I can't drive in BC because I haven't held my license for 2 years.

I just don't understand the whole swapping for a graduate license and the restrictions are confusing.
My job stipulates that I need to be able to drive on my own, so I'm a bit worried about all this. Do I need to pass another test? The waiting times look so long in BC as well and I don't think I would have time or money to do enough driving lessons to reach the threshold for their graduate programme.

Does anyone know what the rules are exactly? I'm finding hard to contact the ICBC...

Too late for an iec visa ?

I applied for an IEC visa in June (from the uk).
I didn’t realise how long the process could potentially be and am still in the pool.
I’ve always had visas from countries like Australia where it was pretty much instant acceptance so really under planned how long it could take.
Can anyone give me hope there’s still a chance to go over this year ?
There are currently 227 spots available with over 2000 people in the pool so it’s not looking very likely :(

Transition from Work and Holiday to Young Professionals as a Spanish citizen.

Good afternoon everyone,

I'm looking for your help because I currently live in Canada on a Working Holiday visa that expires in October of this year. The thing is, I'd like to stay for another year and I've read that there's the option of applying for a Young Professionals permit. I already have my invitation and my employer is ready to offer me a job. At this point, I've run into the problem of the three-month waiting period. I have several questions about this. First, is this a requirement for the Young Professionals permit itself to be approved, or is it a requirement that the three months have passed before it can be activated at the border? Secondly, is this a practical requirement? Because I've also read that sometimes they ignore it. And lastly, if the requirement is real, what options do I have to wait those three months and stay in Canada while I work? Someone told me I could try applying for a Working Holiday extension to buy time, but I don't know if that works... Thanks a million in advance, any information will be a great help.

Application Advice

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to move to Canada next summer on an IEC. I was just wondering if anyone knows a rough estimate of the best time to apply in order to hopefully have one for the summer (early summer ideally). I’ve done some research but tend to find conflicting information from different sites.

Cheers

Inland Activation - My Timeline

Hi all, I just wanted to share my timeline for inland activation of my second IEC permit (3rd year)

Webform 21st June

Approval Message 22nd June

“Your Document is Valid” in GC Account with new permit number - 23rd June. All correct dates.

I have to say I am a little taken aback at how quickly this moved! Obviously still waiting for the physical copy in the mail but having read about the delays I got in ~ 1 month before I was set to expire on my first permit to be safe.

I know there is huge disparity in how these are processed but just wanted to share at least one example of very rapid processing and activation. Important to consider too that you do lose time if you go too early so flying out and back in still preferable if you want to full maximise your time and have control of your activation date.

Building a free platform for seasonal workers in Banff — honest feedback wanted before launch

Currently working on a site called Mountain Arrivals — jobs, verified accommodation listings, and a moving guide for people arriving in Banff for a season.

The verification side is something I'm focusing on — landlords have to provide ID and property proof before listing, so renters know they're not sending a deposit to someone who doesn't own the place.

If you've lived or worked in Banff (or are planning to), 2 minutes of feedback would go a long way before I put this in front of people.

Asked to fill in travel history form for specific dates. Do i only include those dates?

Hi i got a response to fill in the 5257 form for dates 2019 to 2023 even though i filled them in when i submitted the application.

Do i have to re-enter all the travel history again from age 18 till now including those dates or just the dates requested on the letter 2019 to 2023?

I wanna make sure i get it right this time as i dont know why it went wrong the last time.

Thanks
