Keeping up with casual cyclists on 125mm skates + Powerslide Swell sizing advice?

Hello! I’m new to this sub and could use some advice from people with more experience.

I’m looking to get a new pair of skates and make skating one of my main warm-season fitness activities. The longest route I’d want to comfortably cruise would be a 15–20 km bike path each way (so a total of ~35 km with breaks), usually alongside my cyclist friends as a fun weekend activity.

Because of that, I’m considering the Powerslide Swell Stellar Road 125. I’m not a complete beginner, but I’ll definitely need some time to get used to softer boots and bigger wheels.

From your experience, is it possible to keep up with casual — emphasis on casual — cyclists over longer distances on 125 mm skates on a bike path?

And a sizing question: I usually wear EU 43 (US Men’s 10), and my mondo size is 268–270 mm long (taking into account some human error while measuring) and 100 mm wide.

The size chart says:

EU 42 = 268 mm

EU 43 = 275 mm

So I’m right on the lower end of EU 43. Powerslide also says:

Precision fit: add 2–3 mm

Comfort fit: add 4–6 mm

Unfortunately I can’t try them on since there aren’t any nearby shops. Do you think I should try to squeeze into the smaller size or go with EU 43?

Help turning!

Hi! I’m new to inline and just skating in general, I’ve been on a pair of skates maybe 3 times in my life prior to this week. I bought a pair of K2 LT trio boas and have been out on them every day for about a week now. I’m a lot more comfortable getting around, but I’m trying to learn parallel turns and its killin me! I can do the A frame turn pretty well but I’ve heard in videos and stuff that its not a very good way to do it. I’m trying to learn all my fundamentals etc and I’m pretty stuck with parallel turns. I can do them when my lead foot is on the outside but I’ve also heard thats not a good way to do it. I recorded my session today and cropped down a video of about 4 minutes just of me trying parallel turns, so if anyone is open to helping me out I can send the video over private message.

Thank you!!!

should i wait until next year to buy them then?

hi, i've recently gotten interested in learning inline skating and with summer holidays coming up, i thought it was a good time to practice. but while looking at posts about what would be good skates to buy, i often came across comments regarding how shoe size is important in choosing a skate.

my issue is that i'm planning on losing around 15kg/33lb to get to 50kg/110lb by the end of the year and since foot size can change with weight loss, do you reckon i should wait until next year?

Is pain normal when you get new skates?

I just got my first pair ever of inline skates... Yayyy

But I feel some kind of pain around my ankle.. Or should I say maybe upper? Like around the tibia, but only after I buckle up the strap around it..

I just want to know if this will reduce over time spent on skates... I have to mention that I also have like 24.5 cm and ordered a 25.2 size.. Don't know if that matters or something, but yea... Also.. I just started, so tips and things I should know are always welcome

And it's not a hard boot, but a semi hard boot or something (more like a fitness one)

What’s the best inline skates for those who want to practise figure skating?

I know this question gets asked a lot but I’m still very confused. I started lessons a month ago or so, but progress with rentals has been difficult. I’m buying my own skates this September, but I want to practice during summer. I want to start doing a few basic spins and jumps as well working on my crossovers and edges. What brand should I buy?

Ideally, I’d want skates that I can use on the road too, but if those don’t exit or don’t mimic ice well enough, I can make it work with just smooth surfaces.

My budget isn’t that high, but I’m willing to go over 100€. I just need someone to recommend me a brand that will feel as similar as possible to ice.

hey all! I made a downhill marathon typa edit around my small town, please check it out!

it's my first edited video I made in years, and a channel relaunch video for my youtube channel. :) just hoping to get some eyeballs on it, I think the copyright free music I chose fits it well, and it's just a vibe! please let me know if you enjoyed any part of it, and any tips as well are welcome too. enjoy!

Budget friendly alternatives to PS next core 80?

So as the title suggests I've been looking into buying a new pair of hardboot inline skates. I've been looking at the Powerslide Next core 80 as they are advertised as perfect for urban skating but also good for crossing some rough terrain and doing tricks on them, but the price tag of €200+ is a little bit scary. I was wondering if I should just bite the bullet and buy the expensive skates or if there is a cheaper alternative that is still good in comparison to these skates? Thanks for any help!

For reference, I am a bit of a beginner skater. I've skated for a bit now on a pair of second-hand softboots, I have pretty good control and I've been to the skatepark a few times, and I am now looking to upgrade and take this hobby more seriously as I really enjoy skating and flowing through the city.

Which skates

Im a complete beginner at roller blading . I used to do figure skating but my rink closed so I’m opting for rollerblading now . However I’m not sure what skates to buy . I’ve been looking at flying eagle raven , shrike or the rollerblade lightning 80 . I really want the raven but on the website loco skates they aren’t in stock anymore for a while so I’m looking at the other two . I will be skating on park paths , quiet roads so more urban skating and fitness some rocky terrain probably I live in uk . Maybe eventually I’ll learn some tricks . Which is the best out of the shrike and lightning 80 however if anyone had any more recommendations pls let me know. I also would like quality but nothing over £180

City Skating for a Beginner

My Skates

Hey friends! I'm picking my skates back up and starting to skate around my city. I've only ever skated on a rink before. Turns out I'm pretty rusty!

Sidewalks are a different animal. I'm really wobbly. Are there any improvements to my skates I could make to be more stable? Any tips to skating on pavement for a newbie?

For info I'm a bigger person at about 250lbs and W US size 10.5 foot.

TIA!

Hey what are ur thoughts on these inlines for my first buy

Saw these recommended in another post as a diverse beginner option, and was wondering what others thought on them or if there’s a better shop to get them from (I’m based in Manchester UK)

I’ll be self learning and wanting to skate mainly for traversal but would also like the option to learn more advanced techniques later on

Appreciate ur advice ty

What are the cheapest rollerblades that are still decent quality?

I want to try rollerblading but all the these “affordable” beginner skates are sooo expensive. I just can’t drop $200 rn and I’m not seeing recommendations below that. I can spend $100, maybe $150 tops, but preferably way cheaper.

I’m moving to a more urban area soon. I mostly want to try slow cruising on sidewalks and parking lots for fun. I might want to do mid speed to a bit fast at some point though. I have absolutely atrocious spacial awareness, balance, and reaction time. This probably isn’t a good idea but I’m doing it anyways, so whatever makes it easier and safer. Also something kinda easy to stop since I’ll be in a kinda hilly area. I also have some sensory issues so maybe something a bit more comfortable.

I know I won’t be able to have everything I want with my price range, but I’m really hoping there’s somewhat decent options. These prices are crazy. I might just do quad roller skating if those are cheaper. Idk if my interest will stay. Either way I’m super excited!!

Bigger single-density wheels that feel like Junk Freestyle?

I'm looking for bigger (90 and 100mm) wheels that have a grip and rebound similar to that of the Junk Freestyle model.

Single density only, since I like to make the most out of wheels before replacing them, and dual density ones go to the trash bin after ~5mm.

Struggling getting back to it :(

I've been skating for a while but after a long break I decided to come back! A year ago or so I got the Powerslide Zoom 100 (3×100 setup)

I definitely love that I can ride over rough terrain very easily but im really struggling with the extra demand the bigger wheels require. They feel very heavy on me and ironically I feel slower than when I went back to my 4×80 skates (though they're now broken for unrelated reasons)

Plus I've been STRUGGLING😭 with flat tricks and slalom on them. I can perform certain tricks but it feels like I'm being restricted heavily.

What im trying to ask with all the rambling is: should I just buy a new 4×80 frame? Or is a 4×90 a good middle ground? Does a middle ground exist? I basically want to do freestyle where I can easily go ride around the city but feel enough stability to do tricks whenever.

Im confident in my ability that I can make a 4×80 work but do the extra 10mm make a difference in smoother riding while allowing room for tricks?

Edit: Thank you all for your responses! I went ahead and ordered some new wheels and 4×80 trinity frames but will definitely keep in mind all of your suggestions for when I want to try a new setup or get new skates in the future! :)

Any Youtubers good at teaching mid- to advanced wizard skating?

Or Instagrammers, any content creators or online tutorials!

Looking for guidance on moving on from the basics of wizard /freestyle skating to combining moves into longer sequences with more flow

Faster wheels?

I have K2 Alexis 80 ALU skates and I have a feeling like the wheels are slowing me down.
I feel like I have to make more effort in order to achieve my otherwise normal speed.
I also feel like they're a bit more difficult in turns and slides.
Am I trippin' or did anyone else have a similar experience?
Does anyone have a recommendation for replacement wheels?
