Digitizing some concert tapes, where to archive?

My father had some tapes kicking around that he gave me. He is a big fan of Tull, but he admits he is not 100% sure what is on these. He assumes that they are live shows from Springfield Massachusetts in the 80s.

I am in the process of digitizing them to MP3 right now, and I can confirm most are definitely live recordings. Where can I archive these so they can be shared?

Day 10 of the tier list! Results: C tier! Next up: Songs from the Wood

Hello! Interesting split of opinion yesterday, but with 7 votes for B tier and 9 for C tier, into C it goes. Next up is Songs from the Wood let me know what you think!

As TOTRNR didn't make it up to S tier, I've left it for now. But I have a feeling I'll be changing it for Songs from the Wood! The most popular option seemed to be to expand to 5 albums. (I'm secretly hoping Heavy Horses will fill one of those spots!)

Day 9 of the tier list! Results: S tier. Next Up: Too Old to Rock 'n' Roll: Too Young to Die!

https://preview.redd.it/2xbyjdqxpr1h1.png?width=1426&format=png&auto=webp&s=3f50010980c995fc848294a58667719247794d7f

Hello! Happy Sunday to everybody. We've reached 3 in S tier, and I want to get feedback on what everybody is thinking. Some people have asked to expand to 5 albums, some have said unlimited. I wanted to tell you what my thoughts were going in to this. I really wanted everyone to give reasons why they like or dislike different JT albums, and so far lots of people have! My main thought process with regards to limiting the number of albums in S tier was finding the best of the best, and my worry is if I expand it any more, then it would become unclear what the actual best was. We have some options here as we continue, I can:

A) Keep it to 3, and as we go through the albums we can knock out one of the existing S tiers into A tier, and replace it with the new album.

B ) Expand the category to 5, as suggested.

C) Make it unlimited

This is a democracy, and I want to hear your opinions!

My Tull album rankings

I've been going through each CD I own and giving them marks out of ten. The first ones I started with are my Jethro Tull albums.

These are just the ones I own, I've heard the rest on streaming platforms but they're not part of the scope.

I drop my youngest daughter at school, come back, make a coffee, and listen to one album uninterrupted, then give it a mark based on how much I enjoyed the experience.

With Tull it's pretty damn difficult and there's a lot of context to be had, for example just because an album has lower marks doesn't necessarily mean I think it's crap, but by comparison to the previous album or the overall catalogue, or what it means to me, it may receive higher or lower scores.

There could be a couple of "hot takes" here also, so please remember this is a subjective list meant for discussion. Anyway, on with the show:

Stand up 8/10

Benefit 7/10

Aqualung 10/10

Thick as a brick 9.5/10

A passion play 9/10

War child 8.5/10

Minstrel in the gallery 10/10

Songs from the wood 9/10

Heavy horses 10/10

Stormwatch 9.5/10

A 7/10

Broadsword and the beast 9.5

Crest of a knave 6/10

Rock island 7/10

J tull dot com 5/10

Rokflote 6.5/10

Curious ruminant 7/10

So From top to bottom:

Minstrel

Heavy horses

Aqualung

TAAB

Stormwatch

Broadsword

Passion play

Songs from the wood

War child

Stand up

Benefit

A

Curious ruminant

Rock island

Rokflote

Crest

Jtull.com

All in all this list surprised me too, because Warchild is actually one of my favourites and I truly feel that it and passion play should've been re-released as one cohesive unit. I LOVE TAAB and thought it would take the top spot tbh but I found in parts it could get really repetitive and it brought the ranking down just a smidge.

Storm watch is one of my favourites overall even though it's quite mid on my ranking, it's the album that got me into Tull, and I feel it has some amazing highs but is let down a little by a lack of consistency as a whole product.

I'm quite picky about my music, so even jtull.com getting a 5/10 means I'd still rather listen to it than a vast majority of other music.

I do own bursting out, which I really love, some of the songs on there really get an extra level of energy added to them and it's great, but I don't tend to enjoy putting live albums in rankings.

I also have nightcap and several booksets/standalone SW remix albums but chose not to include any associated/bonus tracks whatsoever. This is based purely on the flow of the original track listings.

Thanks for reading my wall of nonsense 😂

Did Tull intentionally mimic Brian May’s playing on For Queen and Country from Warchild?

As the title asks, did Tull intentionally mimic Brian May’s playing on For Queen and Country from Warchild?

It sticks out to me every single time I hear the song. Lots of harmony guitar parts. It seems like the guitar is super mid range heavy, which is very similar to Brian May. It’s hard to fully explain, but the overall vibe of the guitar just feels very Queen, and are a little uncharacteristic for other Tull parts.

Between the general Tull sense of humor, and the presence of someone like Dee who could whip up arrangements at the drop of a hat, I’m basically convinced that this was intentional. Has anyone seen any discussion about the subject before though?

It’s always possible I’m just conflating things. But it’s hard for me to assume anything else.

Happy Under Wraps Unwrapped Day!

Super excited about this. Planning on listening to it a few times today (between the 2005 remaster and the versions here).

Also, 2 new previously unreleased songs!

And Walk Into Light Remixed in there too! What a day.

Mayhem, Maybe

Their very best. I can’t believe it didn’t make the Broadsword album. What a prolific period of writing. Do many amazing songs that didn’t make that album.
