Despite some recent "eh" reviews, I am headed back to Island on Thursday night. Anyone planning on going? Will be alone but always down to meet new people.
Saturday night I visited Century Spa. The facility was very clean and although the check-in process was a little different from what I’m used to the staff was helpful since it was my first time there.
For first-time visitors, they require you to take a photo for their check in system. Regardless if it’s your first visit or you’re a regular they hold your ID until you leave. I’m assuming that has to do with past issues around cruising, recording, or inappropriate behavior because throughout the spa they have photos posted of a man who was apparently arrested and served time for recording and lewd acts. Based on that my guess is that the photo and ID policy is part of how they keep track of who is in the facility and discourage anything sexual or inappropriate from happening.
It could have just been the time and day I visited but the crowd seemed on the younger side. Most of the men looked to be around their 20s and 30s. The crowd was mostly white men, followed by Latino men, then Asian men, and then Black men. I’m including that only as a general observation for anyone curious about the atmosphere not as a judgment either way.
In terms of body types most of the men there appeared to be what most would consider fit or in shape. That stood out to me because there was not as much visible variety in body types during my visit compared to most Korean spas I’ve been to. Again, that may have just been the specific crowd that happened to be there that night.
An attendant came through roughly every 10 minutes checking the different areas including the outside area. My impression was that he was mainly checking for inappropriate behavior because he was not cleaning or doing maintenance during the walkthroughs. It felt pretty clear that he was monitoring the rooms and making sure nothing inappropriate was going on.
Like Wi Spa most people kept to themselves or stayed with whoever they came with but it did not feel unfriendly. If you wanted to have a conversation it was easy, especially in the outside area. Guys would go out there, relax outside, and talk while still nude since the area is enclosed.
As far as “cruisiness,” there was one guy walking around from room to room and outside while touching himself. From what I noticed no one responded to it. Other than that most people seemed to be keeping to themselves and just using the spa.
At its peak on Saturday night I would guess there were a little over 20 people there.
As for amenities the steam room and dry sauna were a bit smaller than Wi Spa but I actually enjoyed the design of the dry sauna. There was also another room and I forgot what it was called, but it was almost like a mist room and I really liked it.
The different tubs and pool areas directly overlook the dry sauna and steam room in front of you with the showers off to the right. I mention that because I know people say this area can be “cruisy” and that usually starts with eye contact. Even if you are not trying to cruise the layout makes it easy to see almost everything from the pools. So if you are sitting in one of the tubs you are naturally going to get an eyeful whether that is your intention or not. At Wi Spa, the sauna and steam room are more off to the side, but at Century Spa the pools are front and center and overlook most of the space.
The outside area was probably the biggest perk for me. It gave the space a more open and social feeling and I could see that being one of the main reasons someone might prefer Century Spa. I also thought the hot tub was actually really hot which I appreciated.
Overall Century Spa was clean, easy enough for a first-time visit , and had a younger-leaning (20’s and up) crowd during the time I went. The outside area and hot tub were the biggest highlights for me.
While Wi Spa would probably be the better overall spa experience for most people Century Spa had more of what I personally look for. The hot tub was better & the enclosed outdoor space was a huge perk. As someone who enjoys the social side of social nudity that area really stood out. For those reasons I would personally choose Century Spa for a return visit.
*This part of the post is an edit. I forgot to mention while nudity was definitely present it was not as constant as Wi Spa. People were nude in the tubs, outdoor area, and dry sauna, but when walking between areas or using the steam room, most people were wrapped in towels. So while Century is still a nude Korean spa environment it felt a little more covered up in between activities compared to Wi Spa.
Long-time lurker & first-time poster from an alt account. My review is a bit lengthy so I apologize. Just wanted to cover as much ground as possible.
I went to Wi Spa on Saturday evening and it was the first spa I visited during my trip to Los Angeles. In the men’s wet area everyone was actually nude. I mention that because I’ve seen reviews of some people trying to get in with shorts.
As far as body types I saw a wide range. Skinny, average, bigger, muscular, plus-size, and everything in between. Same with anatomy. I only mention this because I spend time in nudist environments and one thing I hear from newcomers is that they worry their body will not be accepted or that they will feel out of place. Based on what I saw you really will see all kinds of bodies and anatomy so there is no reason to feel anxious.
The facility itself was very clean. One thing I noticed was an attendant wiping down the dry sauna window every 5 to 10 minutes which seemed like it was more so to deter any negative behaviors. Sometimes the window wouldn’t even have gotten that foggy and they were back.
The crowd seemed to be mostly men around 30 and older but there were definitely different ages represented. At any given time I would guess there were around 15 to 20 guys in the men’s area. The crowd was primarily white men, followed by Asian men, then Latino men, and then Black men. I’m only including that as a general observation for people who may be curious about the crowd not as a judgment either way.
Most people either kept to themselves or stayed with the person or group they came with however if you wanted to strike up a conversation it was pretty easy. Especially in the dry sauna which was where I noticed most of the casual conversations happening.
As far as whether it felt cruisy, I would say there was one incident I witnessed the tail end of. Two guys were arguing near the towel station in front of the attendants. One man said the other had been touching himself with another guest nearby. The other man denied it and told the attendants that if they believed the accusation they should call the police.
I was not there for the actual incident so I can’t say for sure what happened. However, two other men during the argument walked out and said they had been made uncomfortable, which made me think something probably did happen. The attendants seemed younger and unsure of how to handle the situation. I ended up walking away, but I later noticed that the man who reported the behavior was still there, while the other man was not.
Aside from that, the environment mostly felt like people were there to relax and enjoy the spa.
I also slept there to avoid paying for a hotel room. It worked for that purpose, and I can say that Sunday morning had noticeably more traffic than Saturday night. Speaking of sleeping there in one of the chairs, most guys slept in the uniform Wi Spa provides but a few did sleep without anything on their bottom half and staff didn’t say anything so I’d assume it’s fine to sleepover nude as well but I can’t say with certainty.
I’ll be posting my review of Century Spa as well but I think Wi Spa was better with the overall size, variety, and comfort level. The crowd had a wider mix of body types, ages, and backgrounds. Because of that, I think Wi Spa would probably be the better choice for a first-timer or anyone nervous about being nude in a men’s spa setting. It also felt a little less intensely monitored than Century Spa even though staff were still present and paying attention.
*This part is an edit. I realized I forgot to copy the part about the actual amenities from my notes. I apologize. The first pool on your left when you walk in is the cold plunge. It was entirely too cold for me but to be fair that is the point. If you are into cold plunges you will probably love it. The steam room and dry sauna were bigger than what I’m used to but the heat still carried really well. My only complaint would be that both the warm tub and hot tub could have been a little hotter.
Visiting from California want advice or someone to go with.
I’m a 26m fit and like the nudity
We're an expanding friend group in Winnipeg MB Canada of genuine, social, inclusive, bi men, ages 35-40ish, with average physiques, and fantastic personalities who sometimes meet for social nudity at home, saunas, hot tubs, nude beaches, and travelling!! Intrigued?
I have heard they are popular with some celebrities
Choi’s Health Spa is one of the very few nude spa experiences in the Massachusetts area.
When you first walk in you’re greeted by some really friendly women at the front desk. If it’s your first time they explain that the place is primarily a relaxation spa that is heavily frequented by gay men. They are very upfront about the atmosphere and basically let you know that as long as being around the LGBTQ community does not bother you admission is $40. From there they give you your locker key.
Once you get to the locker room, there are two different directions you can go. To the left is more of a lounge or living room area. That’s where the bathroom is located, along with a TV, couches, and a more laid-back place to sit or rest. The TV is almost always on some kind of conspiracy theory channel, which is honestly kind of funny at this point. There is also calm, relaxing music playing throughout the spa, although recently a Muay Thai boxing gym opened directly next door and they play their music extremely loudly. The wall by the biggest couch connects right to their space so I understand the most likely reason for their music being so loud . There is sometimes very loud noise coming from the lounge side of Chois too, depending on if guys are in there “bonding”, so I assume the music helps cover some of that.
If you go right from the locker room instead, you enter the wet area. There are two hot tubs. One is more warm than hot although some of the regulars say it is supposed to be hotter and just has not been for a while. The other hot tub gets very hot, and it is probably my favorite hot tub out of the ones I have been to so far. It is spacious, comfortable, and actually hot enough to feel therapeutic.
The showers are along the wall and have a decent amount of space between them, which I appreciate. The dry sauna is on the smaller side and feels pretty compact. The steam room also has limited seating and one thing that feels like a design flaw is that several of the steam vents are close to the floor. When the steam kicks on your legs and feet can get really hot if you are standing near those areas. The steam room also fills up pretty often, so it can feel cramped.
As far as “cruisiness” goes, Choi’s is probably the most obvious and direct out of the places I have visited so far. That does not mean you have to participate in anything. I have seen plenty of guys go there just to relax, use the hot tub, sauna, steam room, and keep to themselves. But if you are someone who is uncomfortable being around men who are clearly there to enjoy each other’s company and “bond” this is probably not the place for you.
The lounge area can go either way. You might see guys just sitting, relaxing, napping, or chatting. You might also see men being affectionate or enjoying each other’s company in a more adult way. I’m saying that carefully because I do not want to make it sound like the business is advertising that or encouraging anything specific. It is still a great spa, but the crowd definitely gives it a very adult, gay, social energy.
The hot tub area is probably where people seem the most behaved. You cannot really do much in a hot tub anyway and there are cameras facing both tubs. I will be honest. The cameras make me a little uncomfortable despite not doing anything wrong just because we’re all in a vulnerable state and we have no idea what happens with that footage (if there is any) but I assume they are there to discourage inappropriate behavior in the tubs or protect the business.
The dry sauna and steam room are similar to the lounge in the sense that it really depends on the crowd at the time. You can absolutely use them just to relax, but you are also just as likely to see men “enjoying each other’s company” in those smaller spaces. It is very much one of those places where you should know what type of environment you are walking into before you go.
From the times I have gone, the crowd is mostly white men by a large margin, followed by Latino men, then another noticeable gap before Black men and a smaller number of Asian men. Of course, that is only based on the times I have personally gone so the mix could be different on other days or at other times.
The age range really depends on the day. On weekdays, I would say the crowd tends to be more 35 and up, with a mix of body types, though most of the men I have seen are average build or chubby. On weekends, the crowd is much broader. I have seen men anywhere from their 20s to their 70s, and every body type is represented.
Even though Choi’s is much smaller than the spas I visited in Los Angeles, it can feel significantly more packed on weekends based on my experience. I do not know the exact number of lockers, but at its busiest, I have seen what felt like around 50 to 60 men there, with every locker in use, and men constantly coming and going as they finish “bonding”. I would not quote that as an exact number but it gives you an idea of how crowded it can get and consistently busy. With weekends being considerably busier the adult social side of Choi’s is also much more noticeable on weekends than it is on a typical weekday.
Overall I actually really like Choi’s. The hot tub is huge and genuinely hot, the staff is friendly, and the crowd is usually sociable even when people are not actively looking to “bond”.
My biggest critique is that compared to the spas I visited in Los Angeles, the crowd here feels a lot more shy or reserved. At places like Wi Spa or Century Spa, people used towels mostly to dry off or sit on but otherwise most people seemed comfortable being nude in the spa areas. At Choi’s, a lot of men keep their towels wrapped around themselves the entire time unless they are in the hot tub or have found someone to “bond” with. That makes the atmosphere feel less naturally free and more timid almost like people do not want to be the only one uncovered.
Still, if you are a gay man, comfortable with male nudity, and open to a spa that has both relaxation but also a very “cruisy” element that can be ignored, I would recommend checking it out. If you are not gay, not open-minded, or would be uncomfortable with the possibility of seeing men being affectionate I would absolutely not recommend going.
I haven't been to Island in weeks. Went back Saturday, usually no matter good or bad weather there is a normal 10-15 people morning group.
When I went it was just me in the tub and a person sleeping on the chair in the wet area.
It was like that for 2hrs, I decided to leave felt so odd being the only person there.
The funniest part was they moved the lifeguard chair so its in the spot where the last chair was so they can monitor the steam room closer. Even had someone sit there when it was empty.
There were people though, everyone was using the Co-Ed area instead.
I just think the look is "odd" though if you are new to Island to have a "Lifeguard" in a chair right next to steam though like its like prying eyes when nothing is going on especially when no one is there.
I probably should've walked out of steam and told the guy I saw "steam ghosts" making out in the corner and he should kick them out 🤣
Thinking about going to Island tomorrow, anyone else planning to go? Was anyone there today - how were the crowds?
35 m headed to island during the day on Monday. Anyone else going? Looking forward to relaxing.
Hey all! New to Kspas. Really enjoying the casual nudity aspect and the comfort/relaxation that comes in that. Trying to embrace the social aspect of it. Planning on going to island or king early next week, wondering if anyone from here is gonna be there? Would be nice to see some familiar faces
I know this is a community on KSpa discussion but I recently joined a JCC in Western New York where I live. I was surprised that most people go nude in the wet areas when moving between the showers, sauna, steamroom, and whirlpool in the Adult Men's only spa area. I actually now like to be nude when I go in the wet areas and occasionally bring a hand or bath towel in with me. Does anyone have similar experiences in the adult only 18+ Men's Spa area at a JCC?
Mid-30s male in LA here looking for advice on the best K-spa and the best time of day to go as a first-timer. I would like to go when it is a little less crowded. It seems like Century Spa around 9 AM or Wi Spa around that same time might be good options.
I tried to go today but chickened out right as I was about to walk in. 😝
I’ve been nothing but impressed with this place, i finally tried the scrub and massage and it’s in the top ten. There was no rush, fully scrub with warm waters getting into all nooks and crevices, once this part is over hit the sauna for a few and then the massage begins. Amazing food and service check it out if you have time.
Going to be there all day Monday if anyone wants to hang
How busy do weekends get at Spa World? Also are there more nude guys or swim trunks guys?
Looking for bros to go to wither Yu or Aqua Spa with on weekends, on a regular basis. I often go after work out to relax and heal muscles. I’ve been to Yu before and will check out Aqua tonight. I don’t mind going alone but think it would be fun to have a buddy to go with to chat. Hmu
This morning was probably the most patrolling by attendants I’ve ever seen on the men’s side. Frankly, it was a little uncomfortable. Something must’ve happened recently, they were in their squeegeeing, the steam room glass at least four times in the span of an hour and a half or so this morning. Was able to relax, but it still kind of kills The vibe when so many times they have to slow walk it past the sauna and the steam room. At least the massage jets were working. That made me pretty happy :-)
