one of her best live moments

The witness world wide might be one the most criticized rollout tactics in history but it was innovative and i’d argue no one has ever done something quite like it - it just showed her vulnerable side. did you like it or not?

9 years later, how would you change the Witness singles?

In honor of the 9th anniversary of Witness, I thought it would be a fun idea to revisit some of the singles and hear your thoughts on them.

I will go first:

Chained to the Rhythm (February 2017)

Witness (April 2017)

Swish Swish (June 2017)

Bon Appétit (August 2017)

Roulette (November 2017)

CTTR could work as a solo song with a brand new bridge. I liked Skip's verse, but I don’t think he played a major role in the song. He could stay on the remix after CTTR is released.

Witness represents the album well and has enough commercial appeal to be a single. The only issue is that it leaked a year before, but Part of Me also leaked two years before its release and still became a hit.

Swish Swish would be released after the album with a fierce cunty video, and it would probably do better. It would likely be a standout track since it features Nicki Minaj.

Bon Appétit would be a solo track on the album, but it could get a female remix when it becomes a single. I would love an Ariana Grande collab since she was rumored to be on it, but I don't think that would be possible after what happened in Manchester, so I would go with Rihanna, since she and Katy were friends for a long time and it would be a kind of fan service. CupcakKe would also be a great pick since she's known for sexual lyrics and themes in her music. It could also be performed at the VMAs.

Roulette doesn't need to be sent to radio and it could just get a video for fans and would probably be more appreciated than Hey Hey Hey was.

I think the main problem with Witness' singles is that the pre-album releases (Bon Appétit and Swish Swish) don't represent the album sonically or thematically. Having Witness as the second single would fix that.

Let me know how you would choose the singles.

Katy was justified for working with Dr Luke

I believe Ke$ha however it is completely understandable that KP believed Luke because they were close friends ever since 2008 and everyone is innocent until proven guilty and Kesha lied about Katy being assaulted. Nobody cares that kesha was raped people were just looking for someone to hate on. We need to stop acting like the album was one big terrible sin bc it wasn't. I think it's a good album.

Just got back from watching the premiere of The Lifetimes Tour at Tribeca film festival

And I liked the film tour, it was amazing when you don't have the internet nitpicking every thing she does and say "it's bad, too much AI, etc". When she played California Girls and Teenage Dream the crowd when insane. Holy shit it was good vibes. I never went on the tour so I didn't know if there was supposed to be an "accident" or error during Crush but it was amazing, the audience kept it going and then the dancers got on stage and were jumping and hyping everyone out towards the end.

My only dislike was during when she was fighting that monster, tbh it wasn't my favorite part of the tour/film but I loved everything else. Also another dislike is how every gay guy there had boyfriends, there weren't that much single gay guys there. I felt like the only one. Also there was no way of meeting and taking the photos of the dancers, and Katy didn't leave space to sign anything. It was kinda underwhelming tbh but at least my tickets were free.

Also what was the thing about that new song? Did she tease it or was it leaked at some point? I never heard of that song and I listened and liked every Katy Perry album.

Witness Turns 9 Today

On the 9th of June 2017 - 4 years after her last album PRISM a Pop Star returned back to us with a polarizing, personal, purposeful and truthful album. WITNESS. An album that deviated from her past efforts as this time she explored the darkest depths of herself and questioned who she was and who everyone thought she was.

Witness marked a change in Katy Perry's discography. This time meeting with new producers she had never worked with before and created a multifaceted album. Covering themes from alienation, heartache, weakness, fatigue, liberation, and self discovery.

A turning point for Katy Perry as she graced us with a new look and strong perspective this era. While many disagreed with her stance on cutting her hair - she decided to go back to her blonde roots, shaving off the Katy Perry persona and giving us a true glimpse of Katherine Hudson a lost soul on a journey of healing and evolving.

This album contains notable singles such as:

  1. Chained To The Rhythm
  2. Bon Appétit
  3. Swish Swish
  4. Hey Hey Hey

And fan favourite: Roulette

And my personal favourite: Mind Maze

What are your thoughts on this era? Do you like the music in this album? Thoughts on the styling? Top 5 in Witness?

DISCUSSION: Katy’s Best Instrumental?

My 3 top picks would be:

  1. Dark Horse (one of the most iconic beats ever made)
  2. Walking On Air (the beat feels like you’re LITERALLY walking on air, sooo blissful and ecstatic)
  3. Spiritual

(final chorus specifically, I don’t know what drug they put in this instrumental but it’s pretty spiritual to me)

Wow, they’re all from PRISM lol

HM’s: ET, Legendary Lovers, Déjà Vu, Power, Tsunami, Bon Appétit

So High School and Teenage Dream as sisters?

Both of these songs evoke that same youthful, carefree feeling, capturing the exact chords that resonate with love during your young years. In your opinion, does So High School serve as a verbose yet more beautifully crafted counterpart to Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream?

if each album had their track titles changed…?

doing this made me realize how perfectly titled everything is... but if it wasn't then what would the titles be???💭 i saw people try this on other subs and honestly just did it for my own fun but thought id post :3 sooo do yall agree with these? i know other subs made a game out of it which might be fun for here if someone wanted to try

the font i used didn't have punctuation so it probably could've been better and i would've changed certain things if i could, but it needed to look cute first and foremost and this is what it took to avoid ai for something so easy hahah

One of the Boys Voting - Day 1

Hello everyone! Since I previously did these votings in the Britney Spesrs subreddit, I also wanted to do one with another one of my favourite artist: Katy Perry.

Since One of the Boys is my personal favorite album, I'll start with it.

Im case there's any confusion to why some songs are here:

* "A Cup of Coffee" and "I Think I'm Ready" were added to the 2023 remastered version of the album.

* "Use Your Love" was in the Ur So Gay EP. And since "Ur So Gay" and "Lost" were on the album, I figured adding it too.

Therefore, read the rules and get voting!

RULES:

* Every day, I'll comment the names of each of the songs that are still in. UPVOTE the songs you want to SAVE. After around one day, I'll tally up the scores and the song which has the least upvotes will leave until there's one song left.

* DOWNVOTES ARE NOT ALLOWED. So PLEASE DON'T DOWNVOTE!

Is this a sign that Katy wants to break away from Capitol and become independent?

I don't know if you know, but Katy is the founder of her own record label, Unsub Records, which includes artists like her longtime collaborator Ferras, Cyn, and Michael Woodward. A video of "Thinking of You" was uploaded to the label's TikTok account (I think it's the official one). Some in the comments on the video have speculated that Katy is considering breaking away from Capitol and becoming independent. Could this be the case?

Because if we evaluate her current status within Capitol, we know that: the catalog from One of the Boys to Smile is owned by the external company Litmus; Capitol decided not to invest in 143 for obvious reasons, and furthermore, that album sold very little because it was widely criticized, so the label is making very little profit; in fact, Katy has recouped her investment with the Lifetimes Tour; Capitol has practically turned its back on her, having not featured her songs on mainstream playlists since 2019, focusing on younger artists like Doechii and Sienna Spiro. Furthermore, Katy admitted in a live broadcast a few weeks ago on Stationhead that Capitol would only decide to promote her on playlists again if she reached #1 on Spotify's Top Global 200, and we know full well that it's practically impossible to achieve that goal. "The One That Got Away" is doing great, remaining fairly stable around #10, but it can't go higher than that, considering Ariana's lead single is at #1, Olivia Rodrigo's soon-to-be-released album, Taylor Swift's song from the movie "Toy Story," etc. So Capitol will never do the much-desired promotion for Katy's new works, including "Watch It Burn," which her team is still hesitating to announce.

So what's the point of Katy staying with Capitol? She's had her time there, and they don't want to invest in her anymore. She might as well become independent and take full control of her musical projects without outside interference (we know from 143 what that entailed), taking into account that she has the assets to cover the costs. What do you think?
