Need advice for doing a Brazilian wax at home for the first time 😭

Hi everyone!
I’m thinking about doing a Brazilian wax at home instead of going to a salon, but I’m honestly a little nervous and have no idea where to start.
I’d love some advice from people who’ve actually done it themselves.
A few questions:
● What type of wax works best (hard wax or soft wax)?
● Any brands you’d recommend?
● How do you make it hurt less?
● What’s the best prep before waxing?
● Any aftercare tips to avoid ingrown hairs or irritation?
● Are there any beginner mistakes I should avoid?
If you’ve been doing your own Brazilian wax at home, I’d really appreciate any tips, hacks, or lessons you learned the hard way. Thanks in advance! 💛

Do you get a closer leg shave with a safety razor or a cartridge razor?

I got a Henson AL13 in 2022 and have been shaving my legs with it every week or so since (swapping the blade every few shaves). I like using the Henson, it didn't seem to irritate my sensitive skin, and it seemed like it got a pretty smooth shave, but recently I forgot to pack it before traveling and bought a disposable Gillette Venus razor to tide me over at my destination. I hate to say it, but I feel like I got a closer and smoother shave with the Gillette over the Henson. It was also way faster, even with my longer legs and thick body hair. It has me feeling a bit mad about it, honestly, especially considering the price for cartridge razors. I'm very curious if you folks have had similar experiences, or still prefer safety razors above all.

How to shave down there without razor bumps

It seems like every time I shave I get irritation and razor bumps, and I'm entirely unsure how to stop it. I started using a shave glaze before and after but that's done nothing, and I have wiped that claim to treat ingrown hairs but that's also been unhelpful. No matter if I use electric or hand held there they are.

I was hoping someone could recommend me products, methods of shaving, or routines.

Also is there a way to get rid of razor bumps after they've appeared

Review of the Leaf 2 Razor

Review of the Leaf 2 razor

(Skip to the review heading, to avoid my preamble.)

In no way am I compensated for this review. I'm simply writing it because I had a hard time finding women's thoughts on this relatively new product.

As of writing this, it has been my razor for nearly 3 months.

Background

I don't really enjoy shaving, but I do love having smooth skin. This is the first "sustainable" razor that I've tried. I was attracted to the design and the buy it for life aspect. I contemplated this purchase for a year with the original Leaf razor and pulled the trigger after the new design was released.

Prior to this I only used Billie, Schick, and several other disposable razors. These options suited me because I didn't need to shave carefully. It simply removed hair and allowed me to move on with my day. I'm not reckless, but I like to get it done quickly. My biggest gripes with these razors are that they clog easily, and the replaceable heads tend to pop off easily.

I use this razor primarily on my legs and underarms. My skin can be sensitive at times, but for the most part I'd say it's "normal" (whatever that means).

Routine

I use Astra blades and split them in half. I use both halves in the razor, since it can accommodate two blades.

This razor does need some kind of lubricant to keep it gliding smoothly across my skin. Plan water causes it to "skip" or bounce while shaving.

My routine is simple. Shaving is the last thing I do, so my skin has time to warm and the hair has time to soften. At least once a week, I exfoliate with a sugar scrub. Afterwards I use a body wash, this is the "lubricant" used for my underarms.

For my legs, I use hair conditioner to assist shaving. I don't apply any extra pressure, and I move at the same speed I used with my disposable razors. The hair on my legs is quite coarse, so I always shave against the grain.

Out of the shower, I apply lotion to damp skin.

Review

To my complete surprise, I was blown away! This is by far the best razor I have ever used. The price is a little steep, but I bought mine on sale--to which I'd say was well worth the money.

I tried the Leaf brand razor blades, but I believe they were too sharp for my skin as it left a tingling, stinging sensation for hours after shaving. I took a chance on Astra blades and have managed an incredibly close, smooth shave without any stinging, razor burn or irritation. Disposable razors would occasionally give me strawberry legs, but so far this is no longer an issue.

The razor itself is nicely weighted and feels good in my hand. The head pivots smoothly and is incredibly responsive. It feels like it's applying just the right pressure on my skin all on its own.

My legs (and underarms) are consistently the smoothest they have ever been. Every shave is close and completely non-irritating. I have not nicked myself once. It's so good, it cut how often I shave in half. I went from shaving every other day to shaving every 4 days.

I never used to have smooth second day legs, but now I do, and I'm not looking back!

Hair regrowth is also far less irritating on my skin than it used to be.

The best part of all, this razor doesn't get gooey and clogged! Any build up is easily cleared by opening the razor chamber and rinsing it out. This means I get many more shaves from an individual refill than I ever did from a cartridge.

Frankly, I'm still surprised just how good this razor is. I'm glad I took the leap (leaf?) and bought it! I will never need another razor, and I will gladly rave about it to anyone who will listen.

I have these after shaving… can I get them removed?

I’ve had these on my body so a very long time and realised I’ve had them after shaving. The doctor says it’s due to an ingrown hair but unsure what it is - is it a cyst? A papulle? It doesn’t hurt

Could I get them removed? How much would it be roughly? Im from the UK

When I do try to shave it I miss everything and just cut that spot up badly. I also need tips on how to get my face to stay smooth; no matter how hard I try to focus and make sure I get every spot there ends up being a spot I missed I've been shaving every day and it's like the stubble is back within hours

might be tmi but anyone have shaving tips for 🐱

I grow a lot of hair all over my body, so it’s pretty exhausting having to shave so frequently especially with how fast it grows back but my biggest issue is my hair downstairs, the crack, and 🍑 (ik sorry tmi) what are your best shaving tips for the smoothest shave or even landing strip tips. Also, what razors are we using for the crack? I can never seem to get all the hair there and are we using hair removal creams or just straight shaving our 🍑

I need shaving advice please!

Hi,
I’ve never been taught how to shave “properly” and I’ve noticed that whenever I shave my legs I always get ingrown hairs sort of? I can’t tell if they are or not, it just looks like the hair is growing back but trapped under the skin and it ends up being grey dots that are really itchy and sensitive.

I use a body scrub before I shave and I use warm water, and I’ve tried conditioner before because I’ve seen it work for other people but it didn’t for me it just sort of made my skin feel weird. I’ve tried body soap and sensitive shaving cream but I always get the same issue of these random bumps (I can try to add a photo if someone thinks they know what I mean). I’ve tried disposable razors, women’s razors that are reusable (ones that are normal and ones that have soap on the plastic area to “help with easiness”) and I’ve tried men’s razors too as I’ve heard stuff about those as well.

Does anyone have any advice at all on how to stop this and stop strawberry legs? I’m just a bit sick of it happening because it feels uncomfortable when it starts to grow back and it just makes me feel a bit insecure about how my legs look!

Thanks for reading and thanks for any advice anyone has to give!

Unbearable itchy legs post shave

Anyone have something I haven’t tried yet? Every time I shave I get incredibly itchy legs a day or so later (probably regrowth related). So itchy I make myself bleed by scratching sometimes.

I have switched to men’s razor without any gel strip. I try not to use a razor more than twice. I exfoliate everytime I’m in the shower. I use fragrance free soap to wash my legs and moisturize with Eucerin every day. Lately I’ve tried Veet, which gives me far fewer issues, but it doesn’t catch every hair, so I end up shaving what’s left which leaves me with the same issue.

Should I talk to a derm?

Peach fuzz face

I’m 46 female. I don’t have A LOT of peach fuzz around my face, but I can feel it when I lick my lips above the lip line and it shimmers in the light. It’s clear fuzz. As a baby of the 80’s, I didn’t know I wasn’t supposed to have full bush until my divorce in the early 2010’s. Is my peach fuzz on my face a faux pas?? I have recently hugged a woman who shaves her face, and it was prickly. I don’t wanna have a prickly face, but I also don’t want a 70s bush face. 😂 Thank you for any kind words

Edit: I don’t wear makeup other than an eyeshadow as eyeliner and a mascara. I’m more concerned by current standards. I don’t look like I have a clear beard. Just curious if I should have a pristine, fuzz-free face? Even if the fuzz is barely noticeable

Shaving help!!!

I f(22) have problems with my upper inner thigh area near my groin in regard to shaving. I have been to a dermatologist who said that I might have shaving contact dermatitis. I honestly don’t know what to do. It looks better from where I started but I want it to be completely cleared. As it does make me self conscious.

I have tried doing benzoyl peroxide soap, steroid creams, a prescribed cream. This was everything that my dermatologist suggested I use.

Now personally I have tried using turmeric soap from kitch ( this seemed to help the most.) , mandalic acid that is professional grade, glycolic acid, and first aid bump eraser. I typically use shaving oil, Billie shaving cream and even vanicream. I typically exfoliate before I shave. I have also used nair. I use a clean razor with every time I shave as well. I also use the Billie razors too.

I’m just running out of options of what to do. Is there any suggestions?

Remington Lady Shaver vs Phillips One Blade Pro for legs and armpits?

Hey everyone,

My Remington Lady Shaver just died and I'm trying to decide whether to replace it or get something different.

I've been pretty happy with the Remington, but I've heard a lot of women recommend using a men's razor like the One Blade. I already use a men's beard trimmer for my pubic hair so having a trimmer and shaver in one would be great for travel.

Will the One Blade give as close a shave as the Remington Lady Shaver?

Shaving legs advice

Tried shaving my legs for the first time, I have thin hairs but it’s still visible. I tried the recommendations online, these are the steps and products i used

  1. Hot shower
  2. Dove beauty bar soap
  3. Salt scrub
  4. Hair conditioner (some says this one is better since it makes your hair smoother and helps in better gliding of shaver)
  5. Men’s razor (gilette)
  6. Dove beauty bar soap for rinsing
  7. Vaseline Cocoa Radiant Body Oil
  8. St. Ives body lotion renewing

Maintenance (every shower): dove beauty bar soap, vaseline cocoa radiant body oil, st ives body lotion

Is it normal to have small itchy red bumps? How do you address this? Also, please recommend if you have better shaving routine!

Any home remedies for removing hair from your body?

I need to remove my hair from my face cuz it's starting to look like a beard of teenage boy and I'm a girlll and all are teasing me. Need help lol. Razors are not allowed for me but if I try natural remedies I won't get scolded or get any punishment for removing my body hair so any suggestions?
