What type of mouse/ animal is this?

Today I spotted a baby nest under our recycling bin. They are super small and super cute but obviously I know that they can still carry diseases and what not so definitely would not be touching them or anything. I'm not exactly sure what they are but chatpgt has given me mixed answers whether it could be a shrew or a vole, anyone have any ideas? I also did see the mother (I'm assuming) running around the lawn grass as well and there appears to be a small hole near a small tree (next to the recycling bin). Would appreciate any guidance - preferably it would be good to have them relocate since it looks like there's multiple holes in the lawn but not sure if it's from them or another animal.

snuggles!

I captured a colony of deer mice at work several weeks ago as they were going to be killed. They immediately took to captivity (and some human interaction) shockingly well and the female I caught pregnant gave birth just a few days later.

After they settled in, I realized 2 were bonded males and obviously the one was female. I've kept a close eye on everyone and am kind of doing my own hands on research at this point because there isn't much for pet deer mice. I am also able to do soft releases when/if the time comes, and have a spare enclosure as well. The spare tank will certainly be used for mom and her daughters if she has another litter, but so far 0 signs of a pregnancy, and she'd be looking VERY round by now.

I wanted to see how everyone operates together in one tank, and it's been the coolest thing! Mama takes excellent care of her 4 babies, but often hands off babysitting duties to the males (I like to say they're dad and grandpa.) Now that babies are weaned, every night they come up and snuggle with the boys while mom gets some alone time or has a snack. I've previously only had fancies, and obviously never let them procreate lol. It's been really interesting to see a male actually interact with and parent babies.

Any name ideas for babies? I believe there's 2 males and 2 females!! Mom is Toffee, dad is Moose, and "grandpa" is Matcha 🫶🏻

possible rat/mouse issue, freaking out rn

Hey everyone, I live in Amsterdam and something really weird happened tonight.

I was chilling in my living room then I suddenly heard a huge noise from the kitchen. It sounded almost like a metal tray had fallen from the counter onto the floor. I went to check but nothing had dropped. The sound seemed to be coming from a lower kitchen cabinet/closet where my boiler is also located.

The noise continued for around 10 minutes. It sounded like metal being hit repeatedly, with some scratching/rustling too. I opened the cabinet while the noise was still happening, but I didn’t see any mouse/rat or anything moving.

The thing that freaked me out is that there was a chocolate bar in that cabinet. I’m pretty sure I had only eaten two pieces before but when I checked the package, it was completely empty. I’m not 100% sure if I’m remembering wrong but I don’t think I finished it.

There were also dry apple pieces and some M&M/biscuit chocolate bars next to it and those were untouched. I also didn’t find any kind of trace from the thing. I opened the closed while noises were still present and I didn’t see anything.

Earlier tonight I had also made pasta with pesto and accidentally left it on the counter in a closed pan(I almost never did this before), so there was definitely some food smell in the kitchen.

I’ve now removed all chocolates/food from the cabinet, emptied the trash, and moved the trash bin to the balcony. I’ll also call pest control tomorrow anyway just to be safe. My house is from 1940s in bos en lommer area.

Does this sound like it could be a mouse/rat, or could it be something boiler/pipe related? The sound was honestly way louder than I’d expect from a mouse, but the empty chocolate wrapper is making me paranoid.

Any advice on what to check tonight or tomorrow would be appreciated.

Found three mice outside today, in 100 degree Phoenix heat with no water.

What can I do to safely add enrichment for them right now at home? Any advice? I have more supplies like kiln dried pine bedding and more chews on the way from Amazon. I can also get them a bigger tub, this is just what I had on hand and what I could pick up today (I was pressed for time) They are all female feeder mice. All of them were near by each other and they had no water in sight, I caught them, gave them a water dish inside and they all drank like crazy:( I notified the closest Petco to where I found them so that they don’t sell to the person again, they knew who purchased them and seemed rightfully pretty upset. They are okay now, eating and playing on their wheel. The Phoenix heat is no joke I don’t know how someone could be so thoughtless and set these precious babies up to die a horrible death outside. I just feel really shocked and at a loss right now EDIT: will be ordering different bedding!

These were in a bucket full of water that I dumped that was beside my house. Are they nice and can anyone tell what type? I’m afraid of contracting hantavirus.

HELP!! accidentally took home a nest of three little babies

if better pictures and size comparison is needed just let me know and i’ll do my best!

took home some boxes from my grandfathers house and one had a nest of three babies. i’m not sure how old they would be but my guess is they dont look like their much older than being weaned or if they even have been yet. i had a pet single male mouse who passed away a year ago so luckily i have the tank and general knowledge of how to take care of them til i know what best to do with them but i’m just not certain what to feed babies or how to know if they’re off milk yet. they’re wild and we live in an area we can release them but i’m not sure if that would be the best for them yet. we dont have any rehabbers who would take mice around here.

any advice would be great, i believe i still have mice food but if not i can pick some up tomorrow. if they still need milk i’m not sure how to go about that. any advice or what to do with them would be great! if keeping them would be best for them we also dont have the space or time to keep them permanently so if anyone is in the north Alabama area and would like to take them in if needed, let me know! thank you in advance!!

How am i doing?

Hello! i recently (about a week ago) got 3 female mice from the pet store. Their feeder mice and i felt bad for them because the pet store had them in a tiny 5 gallon container (there was like 25 in one.) now i have the 3 i got in a 20 gallon tank with a wheel, tube to climb in, water + food (which they love to put their bedding in so i have to change it all the time) and a couple stick chews! is there anything i need to change, get, or anything else? i dont hold them much since theyre not comfortable with it yet but they do allow me to pet them sometimes! let me know how i am doing, any advice is appreciated! they seem very happy but im not an expert so im checking! for food i sometimes give them rice and peanuts as a treat, but i also have a bag of food with treats mixed in i give them and sometimes i give them pellets that the pet store gave us that they were eating there! (Grey one is Vex, fully white one is Shark, and white + orange one is Maple!)

How do you deal with Rat / Mice messing up with electricals ?

This is the 2nd time this little fellow (zoom in to check what I’m talking about) has screwed up my TVS Jupiter’s electrical wiring system while keeping it in parking. I had it repaired just a month ago, but then when I wanted to step out again the ignition has failed to start. Luckily today evening I saw him getting inside and immediately was able to take a photo of him. If you guys have dealt with a similar situation, I really appreciate any help / tips in advance. Thank you.

Rescued and raised a baby deer mouse. Now what?

I found an abandoned baby deer mouse and raised it for the last couple of weeks. He can now take care of himself as far as eating and drinking, but I'm assuming he wouldn't survive in the wild. I would be willing to keep him, but after our dog saw him, nothing else exists in the house from the dogs perspective. He stares and whines at the terrarium, or at the door to that room when it is closed, or at the stairs when block them off.

Guillermo, the mouse, is pretty personable, which I know can change as they grow up. He associates the human hand with food, so he comes right up and walks around on my hands, doesn't try to escape at all yet. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm in the Chicago area and would be willing to give him away to anyone willing to care for him.

Sorry for the blurry photo. It was caught on a camera we setup and had to screenshot it to capture it as it was very quick.

Male or Female Deer mouse?

This mouse came into my care over a month ago. I work at a gas station that sadly uses poison rat traps outside. A customer found a baby mouse in the middle of the parking lot with no mother to be seen. It was dehydrated and cold, so I decided to take it in to give it a second chance at life.

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone can tell if it's a male or female? I know this is probably a stupid question. It kind of looks like it has balls, but they aren't always visible like that.

Mice getting chonky in the summer? Should I be concerned?

I’ve had mice for years, but my current batch of mice ( I have 3 rn, 2 are around 1 and 1 is around 2/2.5 years old ) seem to be struggling a bit with the heat in a weird way.
I do the usual stuff of offering more water, giving more water rich fruits n veg to help keep them hydrated, give them ceramic to lay on to keep cool..
They eat mostly healthy. They have their standard pellet food ( oxbow rat food ) available 24/7 in a bowl. ( I’ve had an issue with a past mouse who wouldn’t forage and lost a bunch of weight as she aged so I’m paranoid to not have a 24/7 easily accessible food source) I also have a seed mix ( with some added grains and dehydrated herbs, a little cereal, etc.. it’s mostly just seeds though ) I mix in with their bedding to encourage foraging.
I also offer fresh foods every couple days. I typically do it around spot cleaning ( distracting them with yummy veggies and stuff to prevent them from climbing me as I’m grabbing their wheels & toys to clean them makes it so much easier )
The fresh foods I tend to offer are mostly fruits and vegetables. Berries, banana, spinach, cooked broccoli, cooked carrot, beans, turkey, eggs, and Greek yoghurt are some of the most common things. I try to switch it up though. They’re not too into sweet things but they love greens.
They’re usually pretty active. Since it’s warmer though they’ve been sleeping and laying around more. Usually they’ll climb around and use their wheel at night once it cools down.
They do get treats occasionally. But they’re mostly healthy-ish things like an almond sliver. On occasion they do get a tiny piece of chip, French fry, pizza crust, etc.
I think my oldest ( the white one ) has some sort of hormonal issue since she’s definitely larger than other mice I’ve had. She isn’t pregnant. She has been around that size most of the time I’ve had her. She’s healthy outside of being overweight. She’s actually the most active out of the her current cagemates and her past cagemates who passed away. She climbs a lot and is very social. She loves swings & ropes while the other two mice I have are more into burrowing.
They’ve all seem to have gotten a bit chonky. It’s been around 75-80 most days. But cools down into the 50-60s most nights lately. I think it’s maybe because they don’t want to play as much? And just kinda hide from the heat and eat their food?
I keep the room they’re in pretty cool, or at least try to. I block out the widow when the sun is out, there’s a fan ( not pointed at them just to keep air circulating bc the AC is in the living room)
I’ve been giving them less caloric snacks and more fruits & vegetables to keep them cool.

Curious if anyone has tips for me / is in a similar situation?

In the picture ( yes ik the food bowl is kinda big they don’t finish it I just offer extra of stuff to avoid a mini war I remove anything they don’t finish )
They have probably less than 1/4 tsp of Greek yoghurt mixed with smooshed berries ( blueberry + strawberry) and a speck of frozen banana
Greens ( cilantro, strawberry leaves, and a bit of spinach)
And cooked broccoli & corn ( certain raw veggies like broccoli bothers their stomachs )

Couldn’t get a picture of all 3, they tend to get excited and have the zoomies when it’s food time they don’t hold still.

Also wanted to add the bedding isn’t paper, I had leftover napkins from a food order, stuffed them in a hide for them to pull out and destroy for nesting material. Their bedding is mostly aspen with a bit of Timmothy hay.
