I saw both the videos of Marques about Android updates and WWDC updates of 2026. Do people not see clear bias in his reviews?

When he reviewed Android updates, he mentioned how deeply the new updates tie you into the Google ecosystem. While he doesn’t use the exact phrase "locking yourself in," he explicitly highlights how the new Gemini Intelligence and system features rely entirely on parsing your private data across all your connected Google services to actually work. He didn't frame it negatively as a corporate "lock-in" or a trap to force you to stay with Google. Instead, he framed it from a perspective of convenience versus skepticism. He looked at it as a trade-off: you give the system deeper access to your data, and in return, you get highly personalized, genuinely useful features.

And when he reviewed WWDC updates, he explicitly mentions lock-in in this review. He actually makes a direct point about how Apple’s new features tie you deeper into their ecosystem, noting that "lock-in" might have been the unofficial theme of the whole event. He viewed Android’s deep data parsing as a trade-off for convenience and he frames Apple’s WWDC strategy as a classic, incredibly clever refinement of their walled garden—making the ecosystem so seamless and "golden" that you willingly choose to stay locked inside.

Do other people see bias in these two reviews?

Shortcut just asks AI?

iOS27 dev beta, asked Siri to write a shortcut to text my dad and girlfriend with my ETA to home (or wherever I'm navigating) when I leave school. But not if I'm just passing by, only if I've been there all day like for a school day. it's complex, I don't know how I would set it up with a normal shortcut, but it struck me as odd that it basically wrote a prompt it plans to send to AI in the cloud every time I leave school. Am I being too ambitious with the shortcuts app, or is this odd to anyone else?

WatchOS 27 Compatibility

This is shocking to me. My almost 3 year old Series 8 is not compatible. That means they axed 3 generations of the Watch this year.

Update: Apple mistakenly left out Series 9 on this list. It WILL receive 27. Still horrible that 6,7,and 8 are being left out.

Siri AI... My Pixel does all of this?

I just watched the recap of WWDC 2026, and I couldn't help but say to myself "oh my phone does that already" to almost every AI thing that was announced as "new".

Even a lot of the comments were just stating how it's basically Gemini with Siri branding instead.

It's good to see them finally adding the features they promised like 2.5 years ago, but I'm a bit underwhelmed by it all since it's been on Pixel devices for a while now.

Apple's Siri concert ticket demo is way more interesting after listening to the Google I/O breakdown episode

ok so the IO episode spent a solid chunk of time going in on Google's AI agent purchasing stuff and it's been living rent free in my head since. the whole segment where they talk about agents hallucinating and accidentally charging your credit card is genuinely unsettling when you think about it at scale. like the AP2 protocol they mentioned isn't really built for users, it's a liability blanket so advertisers feel comfortable plugging into the system. google's whole pitch is "let us handle it" but they're a company that makes money from retail partnerships. those two things don't coexist cleanly.

anyway. WWDC was today and there's a Siri demo where someone asks about concert tickets for an artist. and siri just... sets a reminder for when tickets go on sale. that's literally it.

and after everything from that pod episode my first reaction was honestly kind of relief? like yeah it's not flashy. yeah gemini would've found the tickets, compared prices, and asked if you want it to buy them right now. but also that's exactly what the guys were worried about. apple's version just taps you on the shoulder and goes "hey tickets drop friday, just so you know."

the decision is still yours. your card never got involved. nothing hallucinated.

people are gonna dunk on apple for being behind and fair enough, but i think there's a real conversation to be had about whether "behind" is actually the right framing here. one company is sprinting to sit between you and your own wallet. the other is setting you a reminder like it's 2015.

Waveform : PLEASE GOD PLEASE MAKE IT INTO THE "did they even test this" section

found this weird thing trying to spin on Microsoft's OWN speed test. lmao, they just pulled a Microsoft. I am on the windows insider preview build on a lenovo LOQ. try right clicking on your network icon>perform speed test>start(the speed test). it goes to bing where you can run a speed test, for some reason it works on chromium based browser but not on zen(could be a firefox issue)

What is a photo?

Hey WVFRM,
(Looking at you Ellis)

I am sure this has been discussed on the podcast and the main channel, but with these new Photos features announced at Dub Dub today, I am forced to think, what is a PHOTO (light) GRAPH (to measure) anymore?

A photo that I apply Generative fill to, isn’t the measurement of light I “captured” anymore.

Thoughts?

What to use Siri for???

It's been 4 plus years of using iphone. Other than asking her to call someone when headphones are connected and pause and play music, I still am trying to figure out what to use Siri for.

Who here is also a Daft Punk fan?

Daft Punk has been a part of my existence since listening to their Discovery album nearly 3 decades ago. It will forever be my shame that I never got to see them live.

I’m not at all surprised Marques is a fan with all the memorabilia— the tech music and tech visuals/themes speak for themselves.

Any other Daft Punk lovers? Digital Love is my favorite track of their discography!

Question for tech community dads

I am curious if there are any gadgets or baby gear you’ve found genuinely useful—or anything that turned out to be overhyped. Would really appreciate your perspective. Btw congrats @Andrew with your newborn!
