I've been looking into the best options to add a light and laser (combo or separate) to a Mossberg 590s Shockwave. I've researched various options and, so far, it seems they all have certain drawbacks. Below are some of the options that I have looked at to date. The laser/light is just what I have chosen to fit my use case as a home defense firearm that'll allow me to both shoot out in front of my eyeline (push/pull), or if the situation dictates, shoot from the hip and various other angles with the laser site. If you don't believe in, or like a laser on a shockwave or any shotgun, that's cool but I'm just looking for experiences or knowledge around adding them both to it. Home defense in an apartment building and I'll be using mostly 12ga #4 Buck shorty shells, which allows the Shockwave to hold 8 shells. These shells are really manageable and create minimal recoil compared to std shells. Just in case anyone isn't aware, the S designation in the 590s means it comes with a shorty shell adapter installed into the action, don't need to put a rubber adapter in each time. Options I've looked at so far:
Crimson Trace lase saddle w/TLR RM1 light mounted to the magazine tube just forward of the end of the forend,(where my hand will be). The laser mounted to the receiver is definitely a positive. My worries are the coordination under stress of working two different switches and the pump action and that the light might be affected too much by the recoil power.
Crimson Trace laser saddle with the TL Racker forend (light only). Same concern with multiple switches and settings under stress.
Nightstick forend light AND laser. I thought this would be the winner, but when I went to install it, it does not fit over the 590s mag tube. The 590s has a thicker barrel/tube. Nightstick doesn't show that on their site where they list incompatible models.
Just mounting a TLR RM1 light and laser mounted at the top of the mag tube as in the 1st option above with a GG&G mount. I'm not sure how well the laser component would hold zero or even hold up at all with the 12ga recoil. I have a setup like this w/the light only TRL RM1 mounted this way on my Mav 88 and it's held up pretty well, but not sure on the laser component.
If you've stuck with me through this long ass post, I appreciate it and want to hear your opinions and experiences, good and bad. Thanks all!
Is the M590 the same as the 590? On other 590 models the “M” is not listed in the model. I’d assume not if price is this cheap for a 590… right…?
Finally pulled the trigger on my first Mossberg! I've been doing a lot of research for super reliable pump-action shotguns and finally decided on the 590A1 7-Shot variant. I also decided to take off the synthetic stock and forend and replace it with the walnut or Retrograde version instead. Just think it looks better!
I need some advice. First time gun owner here, and I have my mind set on the 12 gauge Mossberg 500. I plan on primarily using it for target shooting, deer hunting/big game, small game, and I want to get into waterfowl and even turkey, though I personally have never been. Because of my wide range of desires, I have come to the conclusion that the deer/field combo will best suit my needs. This comes with a 28” smooth bore barrel and a 24” rifled bore for sabot slugs. Here’s my dilemma
I think I want the shotgun in black, however the black deer/field combo, the rifled barrel comes with a cantilever mount attached to the barrel and an optic (2.5x20 scope); While the OG wood furniture 12 gauge and camo version, the rifled barrel has rifled/iron sights, and if I choose to add an optic I’m assuming I would have to drill/attach to the rail later on. Personally I don’t know how I feel about the cantilever barrel as I have personally never used an optic on a shotgun and I have seen some mixed reviews. I’ve only been hunting a handful of times with family but I want to an opinion because I plan to take it much more seriously once I purchase. Is it worth it? Are rail attached sights better than barrel/cantilever style? I’ve heard the optic provided is pretty shit so I would likely remove it anyway and add a new one or maybe even just raw dog it. Idk personally, but it’s the only thing holding me back. I guess I can just sell the one it comes with later on and get a standard 24” rifled barrel but it really is a steal for this combo. If Anyone has any experience with this combo, opinions, or otherwise, please share as I would love to hear. If the optic for longer range is really worth it I would be a lot more confident with this combo, I do wish the black version was offered as an option the way the wood and camo are though:-/
springs, mini pro kit (polished), and furniture added. is there anything left? I know this platform is rock fkn steady I'm just looking for any and all tips, tricks and parts...
I really like the compact size of the aftershock spx but you cant deny the reliability and pedigree of the berettas so if anyone that has both or atleast ran both of them can chime in and give me their opinion on which they would reccomend as a first and only shotgun in the collection which would you go with and why ? These are the two specific models im torn between.
My first shotgun, dirt cheap and used. Cleaned it up, painted it, swapped some parts, and she runs so smooth. Now i just want a light and a sling for it to be complete.
I was looking to get my 20” 590A1 threaded for beretta/Benelli Mobil chokes so I can swap between my other guns and run a suppressor. Anybody here know if that’s possible? I emailed Briley waiting for a response and I saw vangcomp does it but only for Remchokes/Accuchokes. I don’t have calipers to measure the ID/OD of the muzzle either and I’m finding conflicting answers through google.
Any help is appreciated!
So I got the forend from shockwave technologies. I noticed that it gets kinda stiff as i get closer to the thicker part of the barrel. I know its because its the little knotches in the forend rub against the barrel. Just wanted to see if anybody has had the same problem and how they fixed it
This is my Mossberg 142-A that I've had for a few years that i finally decided to give some TLC to, did a deep clean on it. Got rid of some surface rust, added a period correct scope to it.
Pretty happy with how it cleaned up.
Just wanted to show y'all my first firearm, a Maverick 88, and the parts list for this build. From tip to butt, it includes: a Defender Tactical oversized front bead sight, a GG&G Mossberg 500 light mount with a Streamlight PolyTac, a Slade Street Tactical metal heat shield, a Mesa Tactical 6-shell aluminum side saddle, a Shoten Armory extended slide release, hockey tape, and an ATI Shotforce pistol grip stock. I'm also running Rio 9-pellet #1 buckshot for home defense.
It's just something about a mossberg shotgun that makes me feel like a warrior 😂... I plan on getting the 590A1 Magpul series soon!
Hey guys, I noticed an issue with my barrel in 590A1. There is clearly visible material loss. I shot only a couple hundred of slugs and shots. Is there a warranty cover for such thing?
