First long ride through this heat

I’m making a trip on my Z 900 through Texas all the way to California and it is hot. Y’all got any tips and tricks for gear riding in the afternoon of all this heat. I’m also just strapping a big backpack on the back of my tail rigging it up. Also have some steel toe boots from my job I’m using, but I know it’s gonna be hot. Any kind of recommendations would be cool. Appreciate it.

My 532 mile ride yesterday. 2013 Dyna FLD.

Oakland to Auburn to meet with a friend who rides a 2014 Chieftain. Pretty amazing bike! HUGE. We rode through the Sierras to Reno and parted ways, him to his cousin's and me to see another friend for lunch at Lake Topaz. Then hwy 89 to 4 all the way back to Oakland. Highway 4 is amazing if you are local and have yet to ride it. Highly recommend. Pic was taken at 8k feet at some small lake on Hwy 4. Bike did well. 2013 FLD with a stage 2 and 14" apes. After experimenting with a variety of seats, including a Saddlemen, I came across a used stock Dyna solo seat that my Harley mechanic had under some junk in his shop and to my surprise it's soooo perfect for me. Fixed the tear in the leather with some leather repair stuff and it looks good as new. Engine guard with highway pegs to stretch the legs. Buffeting was completely solved with cheapo fork fangs. Awaiting the arrival of Legends rears and cartridge emulators and springs for the front since no one makes cartridges any more for it. Very happy with the FLD! I was torn between a Road King and a Dyna, so I got the best of both worlds. This is such an incredible bike. It's perfect. I've done about 6k on it so far. About to hit 20k so it's time for engine mounts and while I am at it I will get the Sputh set up. God I love the feedback you get from the Dyna platform. It's so engaging.

Day 4 of 10ish days on the road in the Pacific Northwest

328 miles from Nevada City CA, through Yosemite NP, to Groveland CA.

Sooo many beautiful twisty roads. The clouds were threatening for a bit, but I barely touched a raindrop all day

Day 3 of 10ish days biking the Pacific Northwest

From Alturas CA to Nevada City CA. 312 miles of beautiful roads. I would have gotten closer to Yosemite NP, but met some people who showed me around to have a great time.

I should have many more pics, but my phone has developed this habit of corrupting my photos.

V-strom masters 16 km of dirt road in Latvia

Took my newly purchased (https://www.reddit.com/r/Vstrom/comments/1t6fayb/any\_reason\_not\_to\_buy\_a\_demo\_bike\_at\_a\_local/) V-Strom 800 on my first ever multi-day trip from Berlin to Tartu.

On Day 3 I unexpectedly ran into a long stretch of dirt road at about 11 a.m. Since it had rained throughout the morning the condition was muddy with rather deep puddles of water and soaked ruts.

This was on the P 88 road between Vekumnieki and Kegums in Latvia. I checked after and found that P roads are state regional roads, a significant part of them are apparently not paved.

When I entered the road I thought it was just going to be a few meters of what looked like a construction site. I have no experience in off-road riding and my V-Strom 800 RE is not made for it either. Consequently, I decided to move straight on rather than stopping or attempting a u-turn in the mud an risking to drop the 240 kg (plus luggage) machine. I ended up riding 16 km mostly through forested territory.

I encountered two types of road signs for speed limits, 50 and 80 km/h. I only felt comfortable to do about 30 km/h and on some dryer stretches maybe 50 km/h. I was passed by large lorries running at full speed and also encountered two or three normal passenger vehicles also going much faster.

The most challenging parts to me were narrow, uneven corners and the bit where I had to take a left turn into another muddy road at a crossing.

At some point I felt comfortable enough to stop in a not so bad patch and take pictures.

I was relieved when finally the road ended in a paved street. I even found a patrol station with a to car wash near by.

Later that day I ran into two further dirt roads, both of which were in a much better condition and shorter, maybe 10 km each. Apart from that I found the Latvian roads to be quite good.

780+ Road Trip on a 2021 CB300R. Idaho to Washington. Tips Please.

Taking my 2021 CB300R on a road trip. Any good spots to stop by or to rest at?

My ambitious goal is to do the whole trip in one day, but I'm most likely going to stop halfway. I'm either taking the I-15 N to I-90 W or the I-84 W to US-395. I'll be making pit stops every 1.5 hours, filling gas as soon as I start to get half full and I'll probably plan my gas stops as well. I'll be trying to go see some nice sights on the way where I can grab something to eat.

I've never done a road trip before, and I'm aware the bike isn't exactly made for road trips haha. Everything is stock on the bike, and there's absolutely no mechanical issues with the bike. Tires are good. Just recently did a full service to the bike, renewed all the fluids, etc. Any warnings, tips, suggestions, cautions, comments are welcome.

I’m building a motorcycle route app focused on scenic roads. Feedback wanted!

Hey everyone,

I’m working on a motorcycle route-planning app called Curv, and I’d love to get some honest feedback from people who actually enjoy motorcycle road trips.

The idea started from a frustration I had with existing route-planning apps. A lot of them sound great in theory, but in practice they often didn’t give me the kind of route I was actually hoping for.

When I’m planning a ride, I don’t just want to get from A to B. I want a route that feels worth riding: mountain passes, coastal roads, countryside routes, small scenic detours, less highway, and places where the ride itself is part of the experience.

That’s what we’re trying to build with Curv: an app focused on scenic, curvy and enjoyable motorcycle routes, without making the planning process overly complicated.

I’d love to get feedback from this community because r/motorcycleroadtrip feels like exactly the kind of place where people understand that the route itself is part of the experience.

For people who plan motorcycle road trips in Europe:

What tools do you currently use?
Are there any must-have features you expect in an app like this?
What annoys you about other route-planning tools?
What would make planning motorcycle trips easier?
Would an app focused on curvy, scenic, non-highway routes actually be useful for your trips?

I’m not looking for praise. Honest criticism is probably the most useful thing right now.

Here’s the app if anyone wants context:

Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.braxxtech.curv

iOS:
https://apps.apple.com/nl/app/curv-motorcycle-route-planner/id6765479574

If anyone wants to properly test the app, we can activate Premium for testers. Just send us a DM with the email address you used to register your account, and we’ll add Premium so you can try all features.

Any thoughts, feature ideas, criticism, or critical comments are very welcome.

Riding from Waco to So Cal on the Z900

Was asking if anybody knows any recommendations on scenic routes that are in between Waco and So Cal that are nice and not all freeway. Or even need to see places and need to ride roads.

The most fun machine I had, miss it ❤️

Why are 1st bikes so memorable? Is it the joy or the age? Or we always remember what we don’t have anymore?

Built something after struggling to find riding buddies, curious if anyone else has this problem

Moved to a new area last year and realised how hard it is to find people to ride with when you don't know anyone local. Existing Facebook groups felt chaotic and I never found anyone with a similar pace or experience level.

Ended up building an app to scratch my own itch — it matches you with riders based on pace, experience, budget, that kind of thing, so you're not turning up to a group ride and immediately holding everyone up (or getting left behind).

There's also a "Ready to Ride" feature that lets you flag you're heading out — anyone else local with it on gets notified so you can link up spontaneously.

It's free, iOS and Android. Happy to drop the link in the comments if anyone's interested — mainly just want to know if this is actually a problem other people have or if I'm in the minority.

When splitting lanes, downshifting and lurching your bikes throttle MASSIVELY helps to get cars to widen the gap.

High beam on the bobbing light will change your world in crawling traffic. You will feel like Moses.

Storage options for 6-day trip

I recently purchased a 1996 VF750CD, so that I could join my son (CBR650R) and turn his rides into our rides. I've had my license for almost 50 years, and just got back into riding. My son has been riding for not quite two years now.

Anyway, we've made plans to ride around Lake Michigan in late July - seven days/six nights is our plan, weather permitting.

Right now, neither of us have any storage options for our bikes.

So I come to you, Magna owners, asking for your opinions on the best way to carry items for the trip. Do I purchase saddle bags? Or do I purchase a luggage rack and strap on a duffle bag behind me? Should I also purchase a sissy bar to help attach the duffle bag?

Whatever I purchase will only be a temporary addition to the bike - most of our rides are local - so whatever I put on will eventually come off once again, only to be used on our next long excursion! (We haven't even gone on the Lake Michigan trip, and my son is already talking about Route 66, or a road trip to Rapid City, SD!)
