BEWARE OF THIS SCAM "RESORT"!

I booked through a third-party website and was never informed of any additional “resort fee.” After charging my card for incidentals, the hotel withheld $30 as a separate hotel fee that was never disclosed to me at the time of booking.

When I called to ask where I had agreed to this charge, I was told that because I booked through a third party, the fee had supposedly been disclosed verbally at check-in, which it wasn't. A fee that is not properly disclosed upfront is illegal under Canada's consumer protection laws, including the Competition Act.

The business model seems straightforward: advertise a lower room rate to attract customers, spring an unexpected fee on them later, and hope they won't notice or won't bother disputing it after they've already paid for their stay. This is an unacceptable way to do business.

Even though Mastercard ultimately reversed the charge, that doesn't excuse these practices. Check your statements, question unexpected fees, and don't be afraid to dispute charges you never agreed to. I'll be reporting my experience to the Better Business Bureau and encourage other affected customers to speak up as well.

Hotels may charge resort fees, but they must be clearly disclosed upfront in the first displayed price."

Edit: Just checked, they have a D- on the BBB website, go figure lol Edit 2: I had no idea the BBB was just a private company. I reported them to the Competition Bureau Canada. For everyone saying "this is normal", no, it's not

Me and the wife are looking to goto Niagara Falls at the end of the month. We had booked a jacuzzi room at The Oaks Hotel Overlooking the Falls over a month ago but after looking at recent reviews, we're leaning away from it. Now leaning towards Marriot Fallsview Hotel and Spa even though its expensive or Sheraton Fallsview... Any recommendations or thoughts are appreciated

I visited Niagara last weekend just for two days. My girlfriend and I arrived on Saturday morning and left Sunday around 4:00. We had booked a room at Rodeway Inn Fallsview through Booking.com.

Once we got there around 11:30 AM, we saw a sign posted on their hotel entrance door saying that fue to unforeseen circumstances the hotel was closed/shut down. We never received any notice from the hotel nor Booking. Another family was there in the parking lot with the same issue and told us it turns out they closed around two weeks ago. I don’t know why but we had no service (we had just crossed the border from US, I assume the carrier was not getting any signal) so we couldn’t call anyone and we also had timed tickets to attraction and the Falls. We just went to the closest hotel and got a room there.

I was also planning to propose the next day so my mind was somewhere else! I called Booking on Monday to complain and they told me they have to contact the hotel first. They just sent me an email today saying the hotel never responded and they can’t help me with anything. I called and they told me the same thing and that since I called after my check out date that there was nothing they could do. So now I paid for TWO hotels, and the second one was more expensive.

What I need help with is if someone lives close by or is visiting that could help me get a picture of their front door with the sign posted up. I didn’t take a picture (that’s on me my bad) but I want to build a case to Booking.

Hi all! I’m picking up my girlfriend who’s flying into Buffalo and crossing the border into Canada. We plan on spending the day at Niagara Falls as this is her first time in Canada.

As for options to getting her across the border, we’re still figuring that out. My passport still hasn’t arrived so I can’t pick her up from Buffalo. She plans on walking across the border. Her flight gets in at around 10:30am and the flix buses from BUF to rainbow bridge don’t appear to be running at that time. uber is always an option, but of course it tends to be expensive around airports.

Where I live it’s around a similar time for me to drive to Peace Bridge (easier to bus to) vs Rainbow Bridge (more convenient as we plan on visiting the falls). Would it be easier/cheaper to have her bus to Peace bridge, with me going to Fort Erie and then back to Niagara Falls (~1.5hr/100km round trip to my house and back), or do we just get the uber?

We are still exploring our options so any advice helps. Thank you!

Hello! Trying to plan my bachelorette we are from the east coast and want to have a good mix of nightlife younger crowd with good music and dancing. Also I know there are great wineries and restaurants I’ve been 4 time when I was a kid. I just don’t know how the nightlife is and if we would feel safe in the neighborhood where the bars our. We are back this year in support of McMaster Childrens Hospital! This year not just with the 4 regular+1 goalie game but we are also going to put these fine athletic goalies through All Star style competition events. Thats right, if you thought watching 20 fully dressed middle aged goalies try to skate 200 feet wasn't good enough, now we're gonna make them race!

is niagara glen park safe to hike by myself?

hi! i’m thinking of going hiking at niagara glen by myself, but i’ve never been there before.

for those who’ve been there, would you say it’s generally safe to hike solo? my biggest concern isn’t really the hiking itself, but ending up completely alone somewhere in the middle of the trail lmaoo 😭

i’m thinking of going on a weekend. are there usually a lot of people, families, or groups around? or are there parts where you can go a while without seeing anyone?

also, if you’ve solo hiked niagara glen before, would you recommend it for someone who’s relatively new to hiking alone?
