Movie recs?

I want to go to TIFF this year with my boyfriend, we love movies and have never been before.

I’m not really familiar with anything playing so I was looking for recommendations for what to go see.

About us:

I like coming of age movies, such as Little Women, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Bones and All, Call Me by Your Name etc. But I am open to any movie and just love cinema.

My boyfriend likes movies such as Memento, American History X, Baby Driver, The Odyssey.

Thanks everyone!

When does Kia run the best sales in Canada?

Hey everyone, I’m looking to get a 2027 Seltos and I am wondering when they run the best deals for new vehicles. I am a new grad and also currently have a Kia to trade in (probably worth 2k.)

I heard labour day weekend might be a good time. Does anyone have any estimates on what the % will be for that time? Thanks

Bought an MGM gift card by mistake

Hey everyone, I just purchased an MGM gift card for my friend’s birthday, thinking it could be used on the online casino. We learnt that it cannot lol. Would anyone be interested in buying it? I won’t be in Vegas anytime soon. It’s worth $100 but I will sell it for $90.

What do I do if I can’t find anyone to supervise me?

Hi everyone.

I am a 2027 undergrad graduate and am currently starting to apply to grad school. I’ve had about 15 rejections so far for various reasons. I haven’t had any definitive “Yes”’s yet but one prof told me they might be interested if I email them again in September.

What do I do if no one wants to supervise me? My proposed topic is a little niche but not insanely rare to see. How can I make myself look better to potential supervisors?

Thanks!

Application Question

Hey everyone! I’m going into my fourth year and I am really interested in getting a masters in Public Health/Indigenous Heath. My stats are very mid though. Is it still possible to get accepted in Canada with:

~3.0/3.1 gpa,
no publications,
volunteering in a vital statistics lab,
2 academic references, 1 personal,
courses in statistics and population genetics

I am also disabled if that matters!

Best budget hotel in Cancun?

Hey everyone!

Looking for good budget locations in Cancun for 7 days. Hoping to stay under $1200 CAD each for 6-7 days. I’ve been looking into places like Krystal, NYX, Riu, Bahia Principe, etc. Not sure which is best though because I have never been to Mexico. We want decent food but mostly we want clean rooms and a good time. Ages 19-30 in December from Toronto. We want to stay under $1600 with flight.

Thanks!

My dad is doing exactly what his mom did to him.

My dad told me when he was growing up his mom was very overbearing. She would control where he went, what he did, etc. He could only work across the street and she would watch him walk to work.

Now I am 21 and my dad does similar to me (plus some added financial abuse). He tracks me on Life360, calls me and yells at me when I am driving too fast, asks where I am going and who I am with every time I leave the house.

Part of the year I live in a different town for school. The problem is, he pays for my school and my rent. He fully holds this over my head. On multiple occasions I have mentioned wanting to get rid of the life360, and he threatens to stop paying my rent and my tuition. My parents also have told me they don’t want me to work during the school year so I can focus on schoolwork, so I only get minimum wage during the summer. I have decided I will work this school year because I need to escape this cycle.

My dad does pay everything for me. I am grateful for this, but still resentful. I wish I was more financially dependent so I didn’t feel like he could hold everything over my head. When I was around 17, I changed the password to my bank account so he couldn’t monitor what I spent my own money on anymore. He wasn’t happy about that.

My mom is a whole other issue of emotional abuse and self image issues, but she doesn’t agree with how much my dad micromanages me.

A lot of people just see me as spoiled and think I am privileged because my parents pay for everything. I wish I could explain that I want to be more financially independent but it’s next to impossible with the situation I am in.

Which AI in Mexico?

Hey everyone! I’m graduating university this year and my friends and I wanna celebrate by going to Mexico. We’re young so we’re balling on a budget. Ages between 19-30 and we like partying but also laying on the beach, we’d like to do activities (maybe snorkelling or atvs), no dietary restrictions and we’re 3 girls 3 boys. Leaving from Toronto, 6-7 days, mid December. We’re doing 2 rooms, 3 per room.

Here’s what I am deciding between:

NYX Hotel Cancun
Bahia Principe Sian Kaan OR Tulum
Barcelo Maya Caribe OR Colonial
Sandos Cancun

Also, is it best to book through RedTag or TripCentral?

Thanks everyone!

Few questions about Fall 2027

First off, my average is so bad. I have a 73.7% (can anyone convert this to a GPA for me and LMK if it’s a 3.0?)

I’m also wondering how competitive MPH/Masters Epidemiology are in Canada. I honestly don’t care where I go I just want to get in somewhere lol. Is it possible to get in places if I can get up to a 75%? I have experience volunteering in a statistics lab.

I also have 2 good academic references and a professional reference. I’m working on getting my grades up but my overall gpa probably won’t go beyond a 75. My third year was also really hard for me which ended with bad grades.

Converting % to GPA

Hey everyone. I’m in a Canadian university that uses %, and I need to convert my % to a GPA. I have a 73.7%. Is this equivalent to a 3.0? If I try to get to a 75%, what is this equivalent to? Thanks everyone.

Masters Question

How low of a GPA is accepted in Canada for MSc or MA Anthropology if you have 2 good academic references, 1 personal reference, experience in a lab, and a job as an Arch Field Tech. Plus I am charismatic! I’m worried. Does anyone have low gpa acceptance stories?

Low Gpa Masters Admission

Hi everyone. I’m wondering about getting admitted to masters in Canada with a low gpa. I have about a 72.7% right now but I think I can get up to a 75% by the time I graduate. I want to apply to MPH, MSc Epidemiology, MSc/MA Anthropology. I have had health issues throughout university which is why my average is lower. I have some research experience as I volunteer in a lab interpreting vital statistics and inputting them into a spreadsheet for a professor. I’ve taken courses in stats, population genetics, and will be taking bioinformatics. I am currently an Archaeological Field Tech so I have that experience as well. I have 2 academic references and 1 personal reference. Thanks so much in advance.

Recs for foot pain?

Does anyone have recs for what to do when I have excruciating foot pain? I can barely stand for 2 hours without excruciating pain on the bottom of my feet. I have Dakota steel toes with a flat foot insole. I suffer from peroneal tendinitis and also have flat feet so those are contributing factors. It’s really affecting my job and the pain even happens when I am home and sitting down after work.

dumb question

Hi guys it’s me again! I have a sort of dumb question. This weekend I am going on a trip but next week I’m supposed to start my new archaeology job. I want nails for the trip but don’t want to waste my nails by taking them off after 4 days. Would acrylic nails typically be allowed on a job site? I know it’s probably not recommended because of dexterity but does anyone have experience with wearing them

Field lunches?

Hi everyone! I’m starting my job next week and wondering what type of food is good to bring into the field. I’m a bit picky. Is salad good or does it get too hot? I’m also thinking pb&j and maybe vegetables and hummus? What does everyone here bring?
