Pokemon Game Plots As In-Universe Propaganda

Does anyone else imagine some of the Pokemon video game plots to be simplified versions of what actually happened, created by the League or another group as propaganda? Here are two examples:

"Yep, EVERY SINGLE member of Team Plasma was a complete hypocrite who just wanted power. ALL of them. Well...all but one. In the case of N, he was brainwashed as a child. Because there's no way that anyone could reasonably believe in liberating Pokemon from Pokeballs...right? RIGHT?!"

"Yep, ALL bullying ended after Operation Star. ALL of it. Bullying never EVER happened again at the Academy, since all the BAD people were chased away. But, for some reason, Team Star insisted on being truant and harassing people and blocking roads, despite how wonderful and perfect the Academy was. NOTHING that happened after Operation Star was the Academy's fault. NOTHING."

What Pokemon do you consider to be of human-level intelligence and complexity?

In the fanfics I'm working on, I was originally planning on making all Pokemon of equal intelligence and complexity to humans, and I may still due that, but I've also thought of maybe instead making only some Pokemon intelligent and others basically animals.

If I do the latter, there are 75 Evolutionary lines I would consider of human intelligence and complexity. Some I base off of evidence in the games and anime , while others for lack of a better term are based off vibes. This excludes legendary and mythical Pokemon:

Prior to colonization, Pokemon shared the continent with several indigenous human groups, the most major being the Jennys and Joys of Kanto and Johto, the Islemen of Almia, Oblivia, Ferrum, the Isle of Armor, and the Sevii and Decolore Islands, the Diamond and Pearl Clans of Sinnoh/Hisui, the Alolans of Alola, and the Vortigern of Paldea. Other smaller groups include the Melcani of Kalos (AZ's people) and the remenants of the Celestica in Sinnoh/Hisui. These groups were never very large and were mostly genocided during colonization because they refused to help the colonials in fighting Pokemon. Most Pokemon societies had been in their iron age since the middle of the 3rd millennium BC, while some, like those in Sinnoh/Hisui, were still in the bronze age at the time of colonization.

Whether it's a few words or a few lines, something you've published, or something you just wrote today, post a small excerpt from your story! You're more than welcome to add context, but it's not necessary. We would ask that you do limit it to no more than a few paragraphs; we're not looking for entire chapters. Pokemon, but in a high fantasy world.

So have humans still, but also elves, dwarves, orcs, goblins, etc.

Heck if you're including Ash have him be an elf, it would explain why he can spend years going to various regions and island chains and etc without seeming to visibly age.

What’s Something Pokemon Self Inserts Overestimate About Themselves?

What do you think is something a self insert put in the Pokemon world would overestimate about themselves?

I personally one of the things would be something as simple as like surviving in the wilderness where you be with foreign plants that you don’t know are safe to eat, and even then do you have hiking experience do you know how to find your way to civilization if you get lost.

They would also probably underestimate how difficult it is to train and bond with with their Pokemon. Battles would be fast paced instead of turn based like the games, and moves themselves would have far more applications than the games allow you to do.

Don’t get me wrong, a self insert would definitely have some form of an advantage due to their knowledge, but I feel like many fanfics tend to underestimate how overwhelming the Pokemon world would realistically be for people expecting an easy life using things like their game or anime knowledge.

How many type repeats is too many on a team.

Basically one of the mc's for one of my stories will have 3 water types (with my current plans). I've done this before but i still honestly question it. My current picks are Milotic, Empoleon, Gyarados. The rest of the team is: Swellow (The Starter), Garchomp, Tyranitar, Volcarona, Electrode, Amoongus, Unovan Avalugg, Conkeldurr, and Kantonian Mr Mime.

I'm not too set on the Conkelldur, Milotic, and Mr Mime. But I do want something like this and the others are pretty much set in stone. (Edit: I am now confident with those 3)

What is the ratio of humans to Pokemon in your world or worlds you've read about?

My Pokemon world (which takes place on a continent called Jolenea), is around 30,000,000 square miles in total. 7,000,000 square miles are controlled by the Confederation of Western Jolenea (where all the regions and leagues are), the remaining 23,000,000 square miles are controlled by independent Pokemon nations. Pokemon in my world practice agriculture and raise livestock. Most are omnivorous but some are herbivores or derive nutrients from other methods. They don't hunt or eat other Pokemon, as in my rather dark interpretation this is a myth told to Pokemon born and raised in captivity to make them scared of freedom. I initially really wanted to make all Pokemon hunter gatherers, but because of the low population densities of those societies, it would mess up the world I want to make.

Anyway, this means the population can be much more than if they were hunter-gatherers. I haven't yet decided on what population density I want the independent Pokémon lands to be, either between 15 or 35 per square mile (meaning there would be somewhere between 345,000,000 and 805,000,000 Pokemon living outside of the Confederation)

Within the Confederation, I'm a lot more settled with my numbers. There are around 280,000,000 humans and 812,000,000 captive Pokemon. Also within the Confederation are 12,000,000 or so Pokemon whose ancestors survived the "freeing of the frontier." They mostly roam around between the routes living hunter-gatherer lifestyles and avoiding capture. For anyone wandering, Pokemon capture in my world is rarely catching "wild" Pokemon, but instead captive Pokemon are released along the routes and made to live there until caught.

So in total, there are 280,000,000 humans and between 1,169,000,000 and 1,629,000,000 Pokemon, or 1 human for every 4.175 to 5.82 Pokemon.

Looking for Trainer/Pokémon romance

Specifically fics that explore the taboo of an interspecies relationship and having to hide their love from the world. Any gender is fine. I'm not necessarily looking for smut, though I'm absolutely fine with smut included. I just want fics that are mainly focused on the "forbidden romance" aspect. Preferably more than one chapter if possible.

Can MC use weapons?

In my fanfic following a private investigator/ bounty hunter, I was wondering even though he has a few Pokemon if there would be any problems if he were to also use a revolver. The MC will have strict rules about using like not against Pokemon but against either machinery or other humans who also have guns or weapons.

Need Actual Advice

I've written myself into a hole. I'm at the point where my story does not represent the original vision I had for it. I wanted to make a character driven, slice-of-life that focuses on building friendships, team dynamics, and raising Pokemon. However, the main focus has slowly shifted into a plot heavy drama with story arcs that need resolution. The problem is, I don't know how to write those resolutions in a meeningful way that doesn't cheapen the impact of the overall story. I want to get back on track with the main focus, but I have to finish up the current arc before I can start writing what I actually want to write.

So I guess my question to you all is: Have you ever written yourself into a path that you did not originally intend to make? How did you overcome it?

Feel free to discuss or give advice.

What would be some common mistake a pokemon trainer would make?

Hi so I'm working on a more natural progression that doesn't only involve power, but technique too. So far, I have lack of diverse move set, bad reaction time, rigid use of moves. Any other ideas of what pro trainers would know/mistakes beginner would make?

Writing an OC Reincarnated as Dawn's twin sibling; giving her Ariados as a starter; debating on if it should be Shiny or not. Thoughts?

The Main Character ("Aurora") is reincarnated as Dawn's twin sister. There's a few brief seconds where she's terrified that she is Dawn, that she replaced her, but the misunderstanding barely lasts a minute. Neatly sidestepping that depressing route, Aurora faces her new life with passion and love and excitement.

I plan for her to encounter a Spinarak in her youth (prolly around 7 y/o), who will become her Pokemon Partner and starter. By the time Aurora and Dawn set out on their journey, the little fella will be an Ariados.

I'm simply debating on whether or not the baby arachnid should be shiny. Canonically, there was a shiny Ariados near Route 201; theoretically, she could encounter it even earlier as a Spinarak. Frankly Ariados doesn't NEED to be shiny; I just really adore the color palette of shiny Ariados. Thoughts?

How's this for an opening?

Looking for some general feedback and the impression it gives

The Tenshō region. A land with breathtaking scenery and a diverse range of Pokémon.

However… Pokémon trainers know it for more different reasons.

They say any successful trainer of the Pokémon world started their journey, or at least have visited one place; The Tenshō region. Thus earning itself the title of : “The Region Of Adventure".

And it's here where someone is about to get a rude awakening… And the adventure of a lifetime. ____________________________________

The sunshine peered through the curtains of Sora Vale's bedroom, painting the walls a warm orange. That peace was broken by what can only be a college student's least favourite sound: their alarm.

*BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP* While the other residents of Greenmaw might have already jumped to their feet and started their day, she did not.

No, that alarm had been ringing for a solid five minutes before it was even turned off.

Her room told its own story. Sketches, half-finished ideas, and scattered notes on composition and “lihgting" (lighting) covered what could no longer realistically be called a desk.

On a shelf rested a camera well past its “best before date,” occupying the space where textbooks normally would have been. Instead, those textbooks were scattered across the room, and somewhere beneath one of them lay a schedule that hadn’t been acknowledged since the day it was made.

I want to talk to you abt the Original Dragon which got split into zek reshi and kyurem. I created a lore on what could've happened

So it all started when arceus created dialga palkia and giratina... Dialga governed time, palkia space and giratina antimatter... But there was a 4th creation which governed energy...

Kairitra was the most obedient member of the creation trio who listened to arceus without any objection and his siblings... Anyways

After the universe was created, arceus noticed that it was unstable... It couldn't handle that much energy and it feared it'll hurt or even kill one of his children by mistake. So it decided to exile Kairitra to earth by manipulating it, telling it to grow stronger and protect earth and whatever life grows on it (mews and humans) and arceus sent Kairitra to earth in a icy meteor creating the giant chasm.

Once reaching Earth, It noticed something. The Earth's climatic conditions were very extreme that it was inhabitable. It endured everything at the beginning, but things changed when groudon kyogre rayquaza regigigas came to reshape the world. It suffered very much due to the volcanic eruptions, floods, toxic gases, etc.. But it kept arceus' orders in mind, never gave up. This endurance and adaptation caused it to evolved into Ultimate Kairitra - A form obtainable only via extreme adaptation

. One day, an asteroid big enough to wipe out all the existence of the mews came, but luckily Kairitra used all its powers to protect them.. But the aftereffects were severe so it went back to the giant chasm to rest and heal.. Several millions of years passed and the 2 prince came, to unify unova... Since Kairitra wanted to help the humans, it did. However when truth and ideals conflicted by the two prince , it wasn't able to choose it split into Reshiram and zekrom leaving Kyurem as a husk. This split happened in the dragonspiral tower. This Husk after splitting used the leaking absolute zero energy enclosing itself in ice and travelled to the giant chasm at an immense speed making it look like an icy meteor and went into hibernation to restore its powers. When zekrom and reshiram was split by the second unova war by the successors of the princes and it turned into dark stone and light stone. The absence of energy awakened kyurem, however it had no control since the husk had no memories, not only that but also for the fact that it couldn't control its limitless powers. The absence was energy made it too empty that It went rogue, started to eat the very pokemons and humans which it had sworn to protect thus defying and forgetting arceus' orders.

Note : Kindly don't hesitate to ask questions, I'll be happy to clear them.

Disclaimer : I didn't use ai for this. Eveything is written by me.

Trainer nicknames

In my fic trainers that regularly reach the conference are treated like minors celebrity’s, (thin barely/unranked ufc fighters) and have nicknames which fans and announcers use to introduce them. For example my mc is a dude who likes attention and does his best to put on a good show for the crowd, there for his nickname is Dustin “the highlight” Grant.

What nicknames would you give to trainers, both your oc’s and canon characters?

Completed hidden gems?

Most of the standard recs for completed fics are ones I’ve already read through, and now I’m in need of new ones. Give me your best hidden gems that you have read! Only requirements I have are, no pokephilia, and generally no reborn as a Pokemon. I’m aware that there are good fics with the reborn as a Pokemon plot, but it’s just not my cup of tea. Anything else is fair game!

Any suggestions on a story following two protagonists?

Making a story about Florian and Juliana from sv as twins as a way to share the 8 pokemon I used most during my playthrough of sv. I’m struggling a bit with how I should write the character traits of the twins. My goal is to write them to work better together, but it isn’t always easy for them to be together. With some prior help I settled on making Florian think that pokemon grow through testing themselves, so he thinks that respecting his partner’s potentials is to make them as strong as they can be. Juliana will treat her team as companions and won’t push them too hard. I’m struggling finding a balance of being flawed and being unlikable, as well as making Florian not come off as arrogant or accidentally making Juliana coming off as being nervous all the time in battle, which I don’t want to happen, my intention is for Juliana to just be hesitant around pushing her team too hard. I’m asking for help on what traits I should give these two characters, as when I try to, I don’t like the result. No pressure if you don’t want to, but help is appreciated.

(btw for those wondering the mons on their teams are; Skeledirge, Kilowattrel, Lokix, and Scovillain for Florian, and Quaquaval, pawmot, shiny Esparthra, and Dondozo for Juliana)
