Is the Hyundai Sonata SEL 2024 worth it?

Planning on getting this car. So far so many mixed reviews but none really addressing the car itself just the brand Hyundai as a whole. It look very good and packed with features for the price but wouldn’t wanna be rolling around in a box with glitter sprinkled on it.

Am I eligible for engine replacement? 2011 Sonata

Hey all,

I've owned my 2011 Sonata GLS for quite some time now and its getting up there in mileage, 180,000 miles. The engine consumes about 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles, and has done so for probably 100,000 miles now.

I'm aware of the entire engine recall, what I don't know is, will Hyundai replace this engine? Or do they need absolute certainty (engine death) before replacing it?

I've considered selling it but feel its better to ride it out since it's saving me money. If I take a trip to the dealer, will they do a consumption test first? Will they ask for records? I have an excel spreadsheet of all maintenance I've done on this car.

Hyundai Dealer Accused Me of Illegal Street Racing to Deny Warranty – 2024 Sonata N Line

I’m looking for some honest advice because I’m honestly shocked by what happened at my local Hyundai dealership.
I own a 2024 Hyundai Sonata N Line that I bought brand new from the dealership with about 100 miles on it. The car is now about two years old and has only 20,000 miles.
I barely drive it. I live in Tampa, Florida, and almost all of those miles are local driving. I’ve never tracked the car, never raced it, never modified it, and the only longer trip I’ve taken was a single drive to Miami.
Recently, the car developed a noticeable vibration once it reaches around 50 mph and above.
I took it to my local Hyundai dealership expecting them to diagnose the issue under warranty.
Instead, the service manager told me that I must have been participating in illegal street racing, claimed that two wheels are bent, and said I need to replace:
● Two wheels
● All four tires
● The brakes
The estimate was several thousand dollars, and they refused to cover anything under warranty.
What really bothers me isn’t just the cost—it’s the accusation. They essentially accused me of abusing my car without providing any evidence. I’ve never raced this vehicle or driven it aggressively.
My questions are:
● Is it realistic for a two-year-old Sonata with only 20,000 miles to have this kind of damage under normal driving?
● Can a dealership simply accuse a customer of illegal racing to deny warranty coverage?
● Should I ask another Hyundai dealer for a second opinion?
● Should I escalate this directly to Hyundai Corporate?
● Has anyone experienced something similar with Hyundai warranty claims?
I’m just trying to understand whether this is normal or if I’m being treated unfairly.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I was hoping to get some out the door pricing data from those of you who have purchased a 2026 Sonata Hybrid Limited recently. Even 2025 / 2024 data could be useful.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Which engine does my Sonata have?

My car is getting old so over the last few months I’ve been researching my car to figure out what kind of problems I should expect. When I research my VIN number, different sites tell me different things. Many of these “VIN decoders” don’t even agree with each other for what detail each character is supposed to be. Some decoder sites say I have a Theta engine 💀 and some say I have a Gamma engine. 2014 GLS with the original engine at 134k miles. I believe the first 11 characters of the VIN are not self identifying so someone confirm that before I post it

Sound system rattle

Hi everyone, I have a 25 hybrid limited with the bose sound system and wanted to ask if anyone else has experienced the subwoofer having a rattle sound not only when playing music but as well as movement like driving over bumps or closing the door. I had no issues with any rattling sounds but after tinting my windows it just became an issue. I took it back to the place and they claimed they had done nothing wrong and ensured no water would’ve gotten into the speakers. I’ve looked up that water or moisture damage would sound different than this rattling which sounds like some loose plastic of the sort. I put some felt take on the trunk side of the subwoofer that’s exposed in hopes to have it insulate and prevent that rattle but it seems like it was no use. I’d like to try any other methods that I could do myself before taking it to somebody. And yes it is very annoying while driving for me to notice it.

Anyone without window tints?

I thought about tinting only my back windows but I’m debating if it’s even worth it, it’s just a car that gets me from point A to point B, I don’t have to tint it. I can put that $150 towards my car payments instead of wasting it on a tint I don’t need to have. Anyone else without tints?

Would you trade in your sonata for the new 2027 Elantra?

Should I trade in my sonata for the new 2027 Elantra or keep my brand new 2026 sonata?

Question on choosing the interior for 2026 Sonata hybrid limited

Looking to get into Sonata hybrid limited but not sure what interior to choose. Currently have Tucson hybrid with green gray interior and I like it. But in sonata the door arm rest and controls have lighter color for light interior but in Tucson it’s dark.

I’m wondering if it gets dirty easily. Considering it’s leather I’m assuming it’s easier to clean? Any thoughts?

Black is fine too. Test drive cars were mostly black. Light color just feels a bit more open.

Saw one camel interior too in person. May be because I’m not used to that contrast, it just felt it didn’t match with rest of the darker interior. Am I judging too quickly? Anyone with camel interior can shed some light.

Considering either transmission blue or portfonio gray for the exterior.

2024 Sonata Hybrid Limited - Ride is a little harsh?

I traded in my 2018 Honda Accord for a 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited, and while I love almost everything else about the car, I’m struggling with the ride quality.

My Accord felt exceptionally smooth and isolated. In the Sonata, I constantly notice light vibrations through the seat and floorboards that I never felt in the Honda. I’ve tried different tires, had the suspension, drivetrain, engine mounts, and other components checked, and multiple shops/dealers have told me everything is normal.

Most reviews describe the Sonata as having a plush, comfortable ride, but I’ve also seen some reviewers call it firmer or more “taut,” saying more road texture and vibrations make it into the cabin. I’m wondering if that’s simply what I’m experiencing and I’m just not used to it after coming from the Accord.

At the same time, I can’t shake the feeling that something may still be wrong because there’s almost always a gentle vibration through the seat and floor. I’m never completed still even on nice roads. I noticed the driver’s seat has a little play when I shake it, but that doesn’t explain the floorboard vibrations.

Has anyone else moved from an Accord to a Sonata and noticed this? Is this just normal Sonata NVH, or should I keep pushing Hyundai to investigate further (possibly even replacing the driver’s seat under warranty)?

EDIT: To be clear, mine was purchased used at 29k miles. Not sure what possible parts could be worn at that mileage.

EDIT 2: Just to add more clarification.

The exact feeling is happening in the back part of the seat and underneath where my thigh hovers. There is a sensation of resonance and that makes my legs almost shake and tingle. This feeling is transferred to my heel when I have my foot on the pedal. In addition, the window armrest and steering wheel always has resonance too. The effect is that the driver seat is never still even on flat, clean roads.

Things I've tried:

  • New tires
  • Multiple Balancings
  • Allignment
  • 1st Dealership to check suspension
  • 2nd dealership to ask for engine mounts and driveshaft related
  • 3rd dealership visit to check (they just pointed to wheel balance and charged me $180 diag fee, will not be returning to this one)
  • Asked a local shop for a diagnostic fee which could not find anything wrong with the car.

My next plan is probably to ask a different dealership to warranty the seat? And perhaps look at wheel bearings or another possible issues. Everyone is telling me the car is too new to have the wheel bearings fail but I'm completely lost and frustrated at this point.

EDIT 3: If anyone in Houston has a Sonata Hybrid and would let me side-by-side compare the rides, let me know!!

How do you get this thing on jack stands?

I'm looking into getting a 2022 sonata hybrid sel in the next few days hopefully, and I want to start doing my own maintenance. I already have rhino ramps and chocks which should be good for oil and things that don't involve taking the wheels off, but I'd like to be able to do tire rotations and brakes. Obviously Hyundai doesn't want anyone except their dealers with hydraulic lifts doing anything, so there are only the 4 official jack points for emergencies, which leaves nowhere to put the stands.

Realistic Oil Change Intervals?

2023 Hybrid Limited with 43000 miles. Run exclusively synthetic oil. Mostly in-city driving.

What is a real-world suggested interval for oil changes? I'm really old school, used to the 3 month/3000 miles routine, but i know for modern engines with modern oil, that's not necessary anymore. But the recommended 10k per change seems really long. What's the real number/time?
