WIP) Adelaide guide map

Hi everyone!

I’ve created a handy Adelaide Local Guide Map to help newcomers and fellow expats settle into the city smoothly.

My wife is already in Adelaide, and I’ll be joining her this September. Moving to a brand-new city can be overwhelming, so I initially built this map for our own settlement—but I realized it could be a helpful resource for many others preparing for their move too!

Since I am still on my way to becoming a local, I would absolutely love to get some feedback from seasoned Adelaide residents.

If you spot any incorrect information, or if you have any must-know neighborhood tips and hidden gems to share, please let me know in the comments or via the feedback link at the bottom of the map.

Thank you so much for your support!

Help our medical research study

I am a local researcher at SAHMRI (the cheese grater) and we need participants for our study. We are looking at how gut bacteria can influence vaccine effectiveness.

Participants need to be generally healthy, 18-35yo and must not have had the BCG (tuberculosis)* vaccine or the vaccine for Yellow Fever (a travel vax).

The study involves maybe taking some antibiotics (randomised), some blood samples and vaccination. We also ask participants to self-collext some stool samples at home and bring/send those in.

We've had great feedback from our participants - they frequently recommend their friends. Participants get paid $500 for completing the study, and also get to contribute to medical research in a meaningful way :) Head to https://sahmri.org.au/avirs to find out more!

*Most Australian born have never had this vaccine, but you may have had it if you are born overseas or belong to a high risk group. It usually leaves a scar on your arm so that can tell you if you have had it or not.

Facebook app alternatives

I have deleted the Facebook app because I can no longer deal with the cesspit that consumes my life. This is going well however I do use Facebook to keep up to date with local happenings. Does anyone have any app suggestions to replace the lil local news/info that you can get from existing on Facebook.

Things that I see most - SA police, local groups, AFL, birds, essentially I'm a nosy nancy but sick of the dumbass opinions

I thought maybe X but seems that a lot of places just don't use it anymore.

After a few days of some decent rain in Adelaide, I had to check out the first and second falls at Morialta Conservation Park.

Wanted to get to the third falls but so many of the paths were blocked

Brisbane to Kati Thanda/Lake Eyre trip leaving next week - worried about the forecast rain!

Hi all,

We have had a trip to Kati Thanda/Lake Eyre planned for quite some time now - The lake is full and the wildflowers are running riot. We are self-sufficient, high clearance 4x4 and have done outback trips before. We were planning to come through Broken Hill > Arkaroola > Marree > Kati Thanda, spending a few days in Arkaroola/Gammon ranges for some hikes and camping. I know theres been a lot of rain out in the Flinders ranges region just in the last week, and theres more forecast for the coming week.

If the weather is kind to us - how many days would you recommend in Arkaroola and surrounds?

Or are we realistically shit out of luck?

We could go along highways all the way to Marree and then Oodnadata track to Kati Thanda but then we miss out on fun scenic bits.

Thank you very much in advance for any advice you can give :)

Wildflowers

I've heard rumors that the wildflowers have sprung up north following all this rain, but I've not been able to verify anything.

What's it like up north at the moment?

Is it worth a quick trip up there now before they dissappear?

Or better to wait until Sep/Oct school holidays and spring to do a proper trip?

I'm desperate to see the sturt desert peas but love any arid lands vegetation :)

Edit: Thanks to the people pointing out the other post, my question actually inspired the other person to share their pics :)

Arial Photography and Videography

Hey everyone! I’m looking to build some experience in aerial photography and videography and would love the opportunity to work on some projects.

If you have a project in mind whether it’s for a property, business, event, social media, or just something you’d like captured from a different perspective I’d love to give it a shot!

I can also edit the footage myself and am more than happy to show you some samples of work I’ve already made.

I’m just starting out, so pricing is negotiable. At this stage, I’m mainly looking for opportunities to build my portfolio, gain experience, and hopefully help some people out along the way. 😊

If you’re interested or know someone who might be, feel free to reach out and find out more! I’d love to hear what you have in mind. 🙌

What spots in Adelaide would you recommend for someone visiting the first time?

I’m a student currently taking AIF and local to Adelaide, and am planning on creating a photo album of our city to send to my overseas relatives as a sort of “introduction” before they visit later this year.

I would love to get some local input on where you guys think are the best places to visit; any under-the-radar places you would highly recommend?

I'm trying to get a mix of both well-known landmarks and more unknown places in the CBD/Greater Adelaide area that might get overlooked, bonus points if it’s photogenic or says something about what Adelaide’s actually like to live in!

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
