Clown = Kill?

Hey all- I’m fairly new to the game, and have been playing entry-level roles to get the hang of the game.

I gotta ask, what’s up with the animosity towards clowns? I threw a pie at someone and they straight up chased me down and killed me. No warning, no crowd control, just straight up killed me.

Wolf 359 really feels like a round of ss14

So I’m listening to this sci fi story that‘s in a podcast format, kinda like the magnus archives, and it just keeps reminding me of something I would see in SS14. There are hidden antags, the ship is constantly experiencing issues that is 70% the crew’s fault, there is a sentient ai running the station, it really just feels like a low pop high rp server. idk it’s hard to ramble about every parallel I notice between my two current hyperfixations without spoiling or giving 50 paragraphs of context. also don’t know if I should label this as advertising lol since I do highly recommend checking it out.

As a loneop, how far did you go in your attempt?

(Memory is a bit fuzzy cause this happened a long while ago on SL)

On lobster for me to save tc I went in with thief gloves and a clown gear. While the captain was chapel I grabbed the bag and dipped to vault. Switched to jug suit, l6, esword, and chameleon projector. Activated the nuke with no one noticing that the disk was even gone. That's when the wizard, the ninja, and the rest of the crew charged at me. I bolted the door, popped camera and kept on popping in and out to kill the next goober. They bust it open and the wizard locker spell me. I esword out and get fireballed with the crew constant shooting me. Ninja shocked me when I got back up and the sec off finished me off with a shotgun. I didnt win but holy fuck that truely felt like a one vs all and it felt enthralling.

Small constructive rant from a tired wizden headmin on what I've learned. (Word slop.)

I've been an admin of wizden for a very long time, and before that have done the rounds on multiple other servers for 4-5 years now. Is that a lot? Probably not according to some people. Shut up, you're not writing this post anyways.

These are just some observations that I think would be interesting for other players and admins to read up on. Since there's no Wizden forum, I thought I might as well post it here.

  1. As an admin, work with your other admins contributors, and maintainers. You can get far more done with them than without them.

  2. Try your hardest to keep an eye on the server culture that you are fostering. This is a weirdly difficult thing to keep tabs on, but you need to keep on top of general metacliques, metagrudges, and toxicity as an admin. The moment your server gets known as "the toxic server" you're going to lose players, and keep losing players. Don't be afraid to get rid of people catalyzing negative behavior in your server even if they don't technically violate any rules.

  3. RP levels aren't real. NRP, LRP, MRP, HRP, ERP (maybe not that last one) don't actually mean anything. When you're naming your server, new players are NOT going to look at the RP levels of your server. They are just going to connect if you have pop and are appealing enough to them. All this does is flag experienced players onto the general vibe of how many rules you have written down, and in a lot of cases, it still doesn't mean anything because the definition is entirely arbitrary.

  4. Whitelisting (in my opinion) doesn't work. The higher the barrier of entry of your server is, the more insular it becomes. Insular servers eventually become toxic metaclique driven servers that almost always drive away new players. I strongly reccomend against having whitelists on your server. Whitelisted *content* is different from whitelisting the entire server. Whitelisted content is still inclusive, but doesn't create insular cliques and communities.

  5. Foster your new players. If you have systems in place to guide new players, make it as accessible as possible. Make it annoyingly accessible, and if you have a Mhelp system, make sure it's manned by people who are willing to answer extremely basic questions without being condescending. Contrary to what some people think, new players are what keep your server active. New players are willing to do stupid things that keep rounds interesting unlike John Robusta with 10k hours as security.

  6. There is no such thing as a "good server to learn the game on". Space station 14 and 13 are both hilariously dense games to pick up. The more systems you have, the more different and difficult it will be to transfer over to a different fork.

  7. Contrary to 6 above. Play other forks. Learn what is out there. Don't get trapped on one server, there's an entire world out there besides the server you are used to. You don't have to like the content or culture of the server you try, but you should be open to trying new things.

  8. Playtime limits for roles/jobs. Don't abuse your players time. Don't create excessively long grinds to get "high tier" jobs. Not everyone has time to play 8 hours a day, a lot of people might *maybe* get to play a single shift or even less a week. Playtime limits are a good thing for stopping egregious issues, like raiders getting into higher impact roles. However, high playtime requirements end up causing major problems for the health of your community, and the players. Find a good, sane middle ground for playtime. I personally think 5 hours for a department is more than enough to get command roles in the case of Wizden, but I have also seen some servers who demand 100+ hours to be command of a department, which is absurd, and does not respect the players time.

  9. People are going to hate me for this one. Sometimes, the players are just wrong. If you are pushing a major content change, of course listen to the player feedback, but don't let people bully you into changing the game if you believe that it will result in a better game for those players. We saw it happen with listinv to gridinv, and we saw it a few more times with other features I've forgotten about at this point.

I'm gonna leave this here at this point, but these thoughts were bouncing around in my head for a while before the major drama happened, so I thought it'd be a good idea to post it somewhere.

Unplayable glitch ;_;

[background] I'm unsure what to tag this as I went on two different servers and had the problem on both I went on goob and starlight, which in both I "played" for the first time since my usual wizard and the service are down

[problem]: all sprites are entirely black. I can't even create a character. I can't see anything and my preferred job is chef which kind of makes my only job I usually do impossible.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Photos taken in starlight

Tldr: how do I fix my game sprites from being all black?

IPC Chaplain Repairs

I haven't posted my Space Station art here before, because I always found it ended up a little abstract and religiously coded—or else they were my friends' characters. But after one of my favorite Space Station 14 artists posted one of the most goddamn gorgeous pieces of trippy Space Station art I've ever seen, I feel like maybe there's more appreciation for such art here than I might have guessed.

This is my IPC Chaplain KNOXX, in for repairs after a scene I wrote following an episode on station. Mixed media: graphite, pen and ink, staples, collage.

Unclear on how explosive mechanics work.

I've seen some older guides on explosive stacking and instant remote detonation.

Do multiple explosive items stack size and damage? Will an explosive trigger other explosives?

Are there any instant detonation items in the game?

Is the mini bomb explosion proof or does it chain?

If you put a bomb in a pie and eat the pie what happens?

Which of the standard gas canisters you find around the station (oxygen nitrogen etc) are the most explosive and is there a non uplink way to blow one up?

Are fluids like welding fuel on the ground flammable in any way, or is it just that if you trip in them you'll get them on you which makes you more flammable? Can a welding tank be used to breach a wall?

How does thermite work?

I promise none of this info will be used for raiding or tiding. Just a clown who rolls antag all the time and likes to make big holes in walls to accomplish their goals.

Is there any way to get my stats/hours off of Wizden?

EDIT: I KNOW GOOB HAS TRANSFERS, the issue is I can't get my Wizden stats!

And to be fair I did try. Wizden Raptor doesn't have my hours, couldn't find anything else on it in the discord. Second question, does Goob copy hours over or add them to your existing hours?

Fool-proof reliable way to kill a HoS as a traitor?

Okay, I've had way too many antag rolls ruined by a bored HoS randomly deciding that my welding mask was contra and imprisoning me for half the round before I even get to buy any syndi items, so

What's a reliable way to kill the HoS?

For example, a reliable way to kill cadets and officers is have them follow you to maint, where you have a grille set up, and just fry them.

HoS, on the other hand, has super insuls, grilles won't work, running won't work since they usually just get their disablers out.... shooting them won't work since they have enough armor to stun you before you can kill them... at this point I'm at a loss... any ideas?
