Stage Door for Gatsby?

Hello!

I’ve previously attended many Mirvish shows here in Toronto, as well as a couple shows over in Broadway New York. I’ve had the chance to meet the actors and actresses at the stage door over in NYC, but I never knew that this was also an (occasional) option in Toronto too.

I’ll be going to go see the Great Gatsby today and was wondering if they also offer stage door meets/autographs? I understand it’s not a guarantee for Mirvish productions, so I’d love to know beforehand!

Thanks so much.

Hi guys,

first time going to stratford and we are driving from toronto.

we have been to a few shows with mirvish but are deciding to try this finally!

unfortunately these two shows are always airing together.

which would you suggest for a first timer in stratford?

we are both in our early 30s and did cover shakespeare in highschool

we are also considering the bravo seats just so we dont regret things?

edit: booked and confirmed something rotten ! now we are addicted and looking at either guys and dolls, earnest vs tao of the world

Theatre Etiquette

Tonight the person sitting next to me brushed through her long curly hair for several minutes with her hands before then reaching over to throw away her loose hair beside her… except I was beside her and felt very uncomfortable with her touching my upper thigh and infringing on my seat space. Wild behaviour. The theatre is not your garbage can.

AI in Gatsby?

I saw the great gatsby on Saturday and the person I went with is convinced there was AI in the projections. I have a less savvy eye for it so I wasn’t sure. Does anyone else know/ suspect this?

Why is it 'musicals only' now?

There used to be more non-musicals at Mirvish. My children prefer straight plays. I still remember The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and North by Northwest we saw together 10 years ago. Off-Mirvish still has some (we liked Things I Know to Be True, Pride and Prejudice (sort of), God of Carnage), but not Main Mirvish. Why is it so?

P.S. They used to be a good alternative to other Toronto theatres: larger casts, spectacular sets, more predictable quality… Besides, they were more adapted for a family outing than a thought-provoking play on substance abuse.

Fall '26 Toronto Theatre Spreadsheet

Hey folks,

Here's the fall 2026 theatre directory for shows opening or closing in-person in Toronto from Sept 1 - Dec 31. You can sort by opening and closing date, or make a copy for yourself of just the shows you want to see.

If I’ve missed your show, comment below or send me a message. I keep it to theatre, dance, and opera with a bit of sketch sprinkled in; only professional shows, where there's at least a whisper of a profit-share; no workshops; and stuff happening in Toronto-proper, rather than GTA. For broader listings, Stage Door is king or check out this substack.

Enjoy!

Mamma Mia! invigorated my zest for life!

Saw Mamma Mia! for the first time last night and it restored my zest for life. I can see why this is one of the biggest hits of all time. Was seated in the balcony, row C and it was absolutely a perfect view, paid $99 each ticket and worth every penny.

The cast had perfect chemistry, the vocals were astounding. The only tiny bit of criticism was that in some of the songs, there should have been more "on stage action". For example, the scene where Donna meets the three guys for the first time in ages, she's literally singing up against a door for like 3 minutes. My favourite character was Tanya -really funny, confident and sassy. The scene where Tanya >!used a blowdryer as a microphone was hilarious.!<

Other than that, every single audience member was up on their feet at the end of the show when the cast did 3 incredible songs. People singing along, dancing the night away, nothing but pure bliss, LOVED it.

-Does anyone know who's the true father of Sophie>! at the end?! Dying to know!!!<

Mirvish doesn't let their staff get tipped??

I've been coming to the theatre for my whole life (I'm 29m) with my family and more recently I've been actually buying drinks and snacks now that I've got a bit more income and there is no tip option on the machines. The staff are all so lovely and doing so much work and I just wanna show them that I appreciate them. They have a tip jar for cash but who carries cash these days? Idk they have the tip option everywhere why are they taking it away from their staff? I heard a rumor that the staff have been asking for it but they're meeting resistance from higher ups. But idk why? Anyone have insight? ... Like... Let me support your staff!?

Theatre Shows in October

Visiting Toronto in early October and I'm wondering if the various calendars of theatres is pretty much complete at this point?

I'm new to anything theatre related so any other advice is welcomed as well.

Stratford: Midsummer or Saturday, Sunday, Monday

I have plans to see Guys & Dolls, Something Rotten, and Othello, but have one more slot open. I can see either Death of a Salesman, A Midsummer's Nights Dream, or Saturday, Sunday, Monday. I'm leaning towards one of the latter two for levity.

I'm not from Ontario and have only been to Stratford once before, so I'm not familiar with if there's any favoured actors or directors. I've seen smaller local productions of Midsummer before and enjoy it, but I've never seen it with a more professional company. And since Saturday, Sunday, Monday is newer there aren't really reviews yet. Or if there's something special about this production of Death of a Salesman, I could be convinced to change gears and see that.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on which to choose?

Worst shows?

I'm curious to get opinions of some of the worst shows you have seen or that are currently playing now.

I really want to see a show with terrible acting, singing, production, technical issues... or all 4.

Stratford Rush

I am wondering if folks have experience trying to get rush tickets for Stratford. I see I can try online two hours before a performance while members can try online at 9:30.

I'd like to see something on a Saturday evening when we'll be in the area, but is this unlikely? Has anyone had success with their rush program?

Terminal (formerly Fleck) Theatre Seating

Hi All

Looking for advice on seating at Harbourfront Terminal Theatre. I am thinking about buying tickest for some of the Shaw productions there. I assume because it is a small theatre that all seats offer decent sight and sound, but wanted to check in here before I buy.

Can anyone share their experience at the venue?

Thanks
