Sucrose/ Faruzan alternate?

My sucrose is currently busy with my Flins team, and my Faru is only C4 so I’m not sure who to use for my Traveler/ Odette/ Mizuki team. Is there a viable alternative? Or alternatively should I steal sucrose from Flins and replace her with someone else like Kazuha or Xilonen? Thanks for any help!

AI in Gatsby?

I saw the great gatsby on Saturday and the person I went with is convinced there was AI in the projections. I have a less savvy eye for it so I wasn’t sure. Does anyone else know/ suspect this?

Will I be stupid for getting superimposition instead of a new light cone?

So I’m almost at the 200 pulls to get a free light cone. I already have Archer’s so logic says I should get Gilly’s: even if I don’t use it on him, I’ll likely find someone who can use it. But I am one of those annoying people who have trouble role playing as a villain because I feel like it endorses their behaviour (I don’t think it actually does, but it’s a weird anxiety thing) so part of my wants to get archer’s LC to S1 instead. But the gains from that superimpose seem so tiny (like 1% crit rate) that I’m wondering if I’ll kick myself if I don’t take the new one.

Thanks for any help!!

Can you play her without Sparkle?

I’m a huge Rin fan so getting to play as her in HSR is so exciting!! I want to build her and use her as my main story/ exploration dps: I don’t care too much about endgame stuff, but I would like to be able to clear simulated universe and story encounters without too much hassle and fairly efficiently.

I don’t have sparkle, but I do have archer and his light cone. I also have generalist supports like Sunday, tribbie, and Robin, and the major sustains like Huohuo, Dan Heng and Hyacine. Would any of these team comps work out, or is she kinda glued to sparkle?

Rebirth chapter 11 rant

Marking the whole post spoilers up to the end of chapter 11 rebirth to be safe.

I’m a HUGE fan of remake and rebirth overall: I think they did a perfect job of capturing what made the original special while fleshing it out, expanding on the world, and making it more modern. For most of the game they absolutely nailed it, 10/10.

>!And then chapter 11 happened. No more “people trying to gaslight you into thinking that your hometown never burnt down.” Hiring actors to erase history and pretend the Nibel fire never happened, to the point of lying to survivors’ faces is one of the darkest things in ff7, and replacing it with just “oh it’s a treatment facility now” kills the whole impact and eeriness of the fake town. It actually makes Shinra seem kind of benevolent for having a treatment facility set up. And the new residents don’t seem to have any interest in pretending the history didn’t happen.!<

T>!hen the creepy shinra mansion with puzzles and the winding staircase into a dark academia library basement is replaced by a generic industrial lab with an awful box throwing thing and solo Cait nightmare.!<

>!Oh and Vincent is a security guard instead of just sadly ruminating in the coffin lamenting his history. It’s implied he regularly just pops out of the coffin to scan id cards. Funny but kinda erases a lot of his situation and really is too anticlimactic for his big reveal. Also makes no logical sense since why would he be doing menial tasks for shinra after everything that’s happened?!<

>!Then that’s it. One of the most haunting, amazing parts of the original game replaced by an underwhelming forgettable chapter that erases everything that is special about Nibelheim.!<

>!I don’t know how this happened. How could a team that put so much love and effort into every part of the rest of the game just abandon such a crucial chapter and phone it in? Did they assign it to an intern? Did they save it for near the end of the process and then just run out of time? What happened?!!<

>!I think a lot of people share my anger but I needed to post this to vent. My friends haven’t beaten rebirth yet so I need an outlet who I can express this to without spoiling it for them, thank you for listening.!<

Does C2 make a difference for my team?

I’m currently running durin, Nicole, Raiden and Fischl/ chevreuse (the fourth slot doesn’t seem to matter based on dps dummy). My Raiden is C1 right now, everyone else is C0.

With Raiden’s rerun, I’m considering getting her C2 for this team, but I’m wondering if it’s worth it, or if I’m better off just waiting for durin/ Nicole cons: which would be better for team damage for this team?

I’m also wondering if maybe regardless of the team the C2 will be worth it for theatre, as it will make Raiden a bit stronger in other team comps so she can carry me through 2 floors without using up my durin.

Thanks for any advice!!

Is there any point in a GIC when high interest savings accounts have the same rate?

Hi! I just posted another thread but this question is different enough I figured it should have its own.

I’m looking at RBC GICs and it looks like they offer 2.6% interest over 5 years. However, the wealthsimple high interest savings account offers 2.25% interest. Why would anyone go through all the limitations of a GIC for that .35% extra; does it really make a difference? Isn’t the savings account strictly better since I can pull from it any time to invest?

Sorry if this seems naive but I’m just trying to figure out what the advantage of the GIC would be if I can get basically the same thing from a savings account.

Bare bones least complicated way to protect my retirement savings from depreciation?

Hi everyone,

So I have basically 0 financial literacy, and I always assumed I’d be living paycheque to paycheque forever. However, I recently came into a big contract that got me an extra 45K (I’m 35) and I make enough now that I can add some extra to it now and then. The 45k is split up between 2 accounts: a FHSA and an RRSP. I thought this was enough to start saving but I learned having it in cash means it will lose value every year and so I’ll basically lose the savings I worked so hard to finally get and still be screwed when I retire.

I was wondering what folks would suggest I do? I don’t want anything risky or complicated: I am ok losing some potential growth if it just means I’ll be able to retire and not have to worry about working after 65 to maintain a decent lifestyle (eating out now and then, going to some concerts and stuff, maybe some travel, not having to worry, living in a a decent apartment). Similar to my lifestyle making 50k a year right now.

Right now I’m with RBC. My thought is to either invest half of my savings in a 5 year GIC so it will keep up with inflation in years so I can buy a house at 40. The other half maybe in a long-term mutual fund or splitting it between a mutual fund and investing some independently (like 10k) through ETFs just to try them out. I was also thinking about switching it to wealthsimple since they seem better, but they also seem riskier since they’re less guided?

I really don’t care about maximizing earnings or getting rich, I am just paranoid about losing my savings value to inflation, and I’d like to contribute every month to something that will be able to prepare me for a decent retirement one day, and also help me buy a condo by 40 (planning for something in the $400,000 range).

Thank you for any advice!! I seriously wish they taught this stuff in high school.

Need help overcoming addictive behaviour

Hi!

So I have a very highly invested Acheron: E2 with lightcone. I really want her to be relevant again for endgame, but I know that requires M. Blade. I lost my 50/50 and I really don’t want to spend money or stay up all night hopelessly grinding in a way that’s not great for mental health.

I’m trying to remind myself: I can still use Acheron for progression stuff and weeklies. I have E1 tribbie, E0 silver wolf and E0 JQ so I have options that still synergize with her enough for even some endgame stuff. And I have the meta teams for DOT, Anaxa and firefly, so I have enough stuff to clear endgame with other teams.

So I don’t actually need M. Blade, and I know I’ll enjoy Acheron without him, and he will eventually rerun anyway. My brain knows I don’t need him, but I can feel the ol’ gacha addiction making me feel the need to grind or spend and it’s making it hard to focus on work or enjoying other things I’d want to do more. Does anyone have tricks for putting things in perspective so I don’t end up doing something I regret tonight?

Honestly even just typing it out here makes me feel the pull a bit less, so thank you for being here just as a place I can try to process this. I know it’s not as bad as actual gambling addictions or real serious addictions, but gacha addiction is still not great and can cause some big stress!

Learning sign language in second language

Hello! First time poster!

I want to learn sign language: English is my first language but I live in a predominantly French city. I’m wondering if I should learn ASL since learning LSF might be too challenging since my French is still only B1, or if it won’t be too much different since either way I’m learning a whole new language. I was wondering if anyone here has experience learning to sign in a language that’s not their first language equivalent (so a Spanish speaker learning ASL for example). How much harder is it compared to learning the one associated with your first language?

Canada Dry?

Hi! I started boycotting Coca Cola products because of their support for genocide. I’m trying to figure out alternatives - I know there’s no ethical consumption of any major brand under capitalism and all that stuff, but at the same time if I can choose alternatives not on the major priority list I can support the collective BDS movement towards pressuring companies to stop supporting genocide.

I was wondering where Canada Dry stands on this? In Canada they’re not owned by Coca Cola, but at the same time I think coke has some relationship to them because they’re often stored with coke products. Is it possible to drink them and contribute to the boycott or is it basically the same as drinking coke?

Thanks for any perspective! This may seem like a low-priority thing to consider but anything I can do to change my everyday life to be less bound up in these evil acts the better.

Will 5g of psyllium husk a day do anything?

First time poster with a quick question: I want to start taking psyllium husk capsules for better cholesterol and bowel health, but they’re so expensive - the package says to take 15 a day (so almost 8g) but that financially seems impossible. I could definitely do 5g a day (10 capsules 525mg each), but I’m worried this will be basically wasting money if it’s not enough to make a real difference. Do I really need the 8 for meaningful results or will the 5 reduce my cholesterol and help my bowel movements enough? Thanks for any help!!

Supporting bookstores while buying ebooks?

Hi all!

I’m currently having a weird dilemma - I’m moving apartments and this time I’ve really had to grapple with my book collection simply being too big. It takes up too much space and is very hard to move with me when I change apartments. I am considering buying an ereader and switching to something like 80% ebooks and saving physical book purchases for my absolute favourites.

However, I also adore bookstores as places - they’re a nice peaceful refuge for me, and also a place to get recommendations, meet people, and go to events like signings and talks. I feel a sort of obligation to financially support these spaces since I get so much out of them, so I’m hesitant to remove 80% of my spending from these spaces.

Has anyone else grappled with this dilemma? What do people think - is there a world where we can buy most things as ebooks but also still have nice independent bookstores? I’m only 35 and already am swimming in books - I don’t want to be completely overrun by the time I retire and the collection doubles!!

C6 and rotation time

Hi all,

I’m at C3 now and my goal is to eventually get our queen to C6. However, I realized thinking about it that C6 improves Furina’s on-field time (very excited to use her normal attack chain!) but that this might set off issues with her team’s overall rotation.

I use her in Neuvilette teams, coffee/ Ayaka teams, as well as Navia lunar crystallize teams, and as just a general support any time I use someone with damage % scaling.

For those of you with C6 do you find you have time to really use it, or do you still just have to use her as an EQ bot without the normal attacks?

Thanks!!

Teams with current roster

Hi All,

I just got Nicole and I’m SO EXCITED to play the first playable hex witch!!! I’m just trying to figure out how to round out her team.

I have Durin, so he will definitely be slot 2. For slot 3 I am thinking some arrangement of:

Raiden C1
Clorinde c0
Mona C1
Chevy c6
Fischl c6
Cappuccino c0
Yelan C0
Prune C0
Ayato C1
Ayaka C1
Neuvilette C1 and Furina C3 (maybe a vape team?)

Will any of these work? Thanks for any advice!!

Good quick eats near Rosemont or Laurier

Hi all! I have a meeting near Rosemont metro and I’m looking to grab a quick lunch (under $20 after tax and tip) before the meeting. I’m considering $5 gnocchi or Chez Claudette but I eat both so much I’m trying to expand my horizons and try something new. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

I’m in a weird position right now. I have c0 Lauma and no Nefer. I don’t want to pull Nefer since I already have flins and Ineffa for my lunar team, and I don’t love Nefer’s gameplay.

I’ve been considering getting Lauma’s C1 so I can use her as a healer for a future bloom/ hyper bloom team that may happen in the future (or do her with XQ Yelan and Raiden now without having to worry about sustain issues), and to have another decent healer for IT. However this seems irresponsible with Nicole and others coming up: Will I see a noticeable benefit to my account by unlocking healer Lauma without Nefer? Or is she mostly there to help with Nefer’s sustain issues. Am I just addicted to pulling and don’t want to wait 2 weeks for Nicole or do I have a logically sound reason for thinking that a C1 Lauma is a good general value investment by giving me a sort of better Baizhu/ general purpose dendro healer.

Thanks for any help!
