Mamma Mia! invigorated my zest for life!

Saw Mamma Mia! for the first time last night and it restored my zest for life. I can see why this is one of the biggest hits of all time. Was seated in the balcony, row C and it was absolutely a perfect view, paid $99 each ticket and worth every penny.

The cast had perfect chemistry, the vocals were astounding. The only tiny bit of criticism was that in some of the songs, there should have been more "on stage action". For example, the scene where Donna meets the three guys for the first time in ages, she's literally singing up against a door for like 3 minutes. My favourite character was Tanya -really funny, confident and sassy. The scene where Tanya >!used a blowdryer as a microphone was hilarious.!<

Other than that, every single audience member was up on their feet at the end of the show when the cast did 3 incredible songs. People singing along, dancing the night away, nothing but pure bliss, LOVED it.

-Does anyone know who's the true father of Sophie>! at the end?! Dying to know!!!<

Favourite episode of all time: To Tell A Mortal

To Tell A Mortal is my favourite episode of all time. Sabrina gets to actually "come out of the linen closet" and tell Harvey and Valerie that she's a witch - and they're super cool with it. It's so genuine and love the spirit of the episode. Wish they did another one in the newer seasons.

Avoid RBC as a potential employer

RBC is on this $1B initiative to create a brand new function that is AI-driven. Since they're building new teams, they're currently hiring.

I would say that the interview process was extremely disrespectful to Applicants. The recruiter will not do a proper screening assessment so that when you get to the In person Interview with the Hiring Manager, they will dismiss you in 15 mins and say something like "Oh, I'm only talking to you because the recruiter referred me to you." The HM didn't even review my resume properly.

Seriously, complete timewasters after I had taken the time to attend an in person interview at the Waterfront office. Oh and by the way, RBC is 5 days a week in office and they expect you to be in the office. Accordingly to the manager, this is for her convenience so that we don't need to message you and can just pop by.

I also asked how big is the team, given the $1B budget. She said the candidate would be the only person on the team for a while. RED FLAG!!! Seriously, a $1B initiative and you're only hiring 1 person to start and not a team of people --that doesn't add up.

You can google the job post "Lead Project Manager AI, Strategic Initiatives & Transformation" and search RBC if you're curious but the HM is a HORRIFIC nightmare. Save your time and your heartache and do not interview with this company.

Bottom line: The RBC Hiring Manager for AI, Strategic Initiatives & Transformation was extremely pompous, asking questions that make you feel dumb. TERRIBLE waste of time and TERRIBLE company.

Sad-Looking Murals outside of old age home in Little Portugal

There's a set of murals outside of an old age home in Little Portugal. All are pictures of sad(?) looking people. Dark colours, eyes closed, just uninspiring art. What's the history behind why these images were selected?

Living on the super high floor in downtown Toronto

Can anyone who lives on a floor (say 50-90 floors) comment on whether it's worth the view? Is it quiet when you're up that high? Are the elevators reliable? Do the pros outweigh the cons?

Any Irish 35-45s downtown looking to make new friends?

Any Irish folks in downtown Toronto? Moved here a while back and haven't found a solid crew to do things with. Looking to start a WhatsApp group for regular meet-ups and activities, 35-45 age range - pub nights, movie watch parties, hikes, whatever people are into. Let me know if a group like this already exists, or if you'd want in on a new one.

Why have so many restaurants closed/are closing in Toronto in the last year?

RIP:

- Duff's (College St)

- La Cubana (Ossington)

- Electric Bill Bar (Bloorcourt)

- Figo (Adelaide)

- Black Angus Steakhouse (Etobicoke)

- Modus Ristorante (King St)

Was it commercial rent, cost of labour/food, or just leases ending? Did the World Cup revenue bump help at all?

LIVE at Nathan Phillips Square for FIFA WC, June 20, 1:10 pm

Lots of room and big enough screen if you stand close to the fence.

Just under 6 mins, Netherland scores and the crowd erupts. Good energy here.

There’s about a dozen food vendors and seating at the front for those who need to sit.

There’s really NO need to pay for FIFA Fan Fest at $100+. Having been to it, you not missing much-except the $20 drinks.

Plus, at city hall, you can bring your own water bottle, no security checks. And a few kids activities too.

Overall excellent FREE venue to watch a game and not having to overpay on anything. Enjoy!

Serial killer vibes from weirdo at The Harp Tavern Bar

There was 2 of us sitting at the bar on a Sunday evening when this woman approach the bar and asked if she could sit next to us, sure why not.

Then the next moment, several red flags happened. She basically forces us to tell her a joke and insisted on telling one. OK... redflag #1.

She then asked us what we're up to later. We said we're on a pub crawl and are heading to McMurphy's Bar. She says "Oh, it's closed and condos were built there". I said no, I just checked Google and it's open. redflag #2.

She then invites herself on the pubcrawl and at that point, alarm bells went off in my head. I said I'm sorry I'm not comfortable (we just met and I don't know you). She avoided my eye contact, and we left quickly. (BYYYEE!!)

Honestly, read the F*ing room!!! You gave off creepy vibes and made us feel uncomfortable and you. I'm still a bit unsettled after this, just imaging this very-off, potentially dark, interaction unfolding if we were to agree to it all...

The stranger part is that we ended up going to McMurphy's and verified that it was still open. So this was the post-red flag #3. Really creepy that she would say this place is closed permanently.

This post has nothing to do with the bar, rather this weirdo woman.

Be safe Torontonians, trust your gut instinct and don't be shy about saying No.

RTO is a sham - covered up as Collaboration

Here's my hypothesized hidden agenda behind Return to Office in Ontario:

  1. It's about the office leases, not real teamwork. the Province is locked into these multi-million dollar downtown office spaces and empty desks are a financial liability. They need bums in seats to justify these leases

  2. It's a Control play -- The government reminding its employees that "We're in control of you, don't forget it" (this power play probably reversed during COVID)

  3. Stealth lay off strategy - it's all about the headcount. 'natural attrition' pushes out employees who have no options. Saves on severance, no big scandalous headlines, no bad press

  4. Business bailouts - Downtown business need the foot traffic to bring in revenue, think of your office lunch spots

Now imagine the public backlash if the Government said the above, instead of "We're trying to promote Collaboration/We want you at the watercooler".

Why isn't there enough media on this topic? Why aren't people striking against RTO? What are we waiting for?

How to get the most out of end of August/Sept

Hola!

We have visited PV many times before but never in end of August or September. We hear the rainy season has rain every day and "the slowest month of the year".

We always stay in ZR, and wonder how to still make the most of the quiet season? What are the benefits to coming during Aug/Sept and how to make the most of it?

Gracias!

The Well's Food Sucks

I've tried the Well's food court three times and have been disappointed every time. The food is MEDIOCRE at best.

The first time was Rosie's burgers - MEH!

The second time was Carver - MEH!

The third time was Cheezed - MEH!

The price point is around $15-22 per person so average for downtown Toronto.

I'm ranting because I recently saw some IG ads and thought, hey you know what, I'm going to give them another try, maybe the first two times was a fluke.

But sadly no. If I wasn't living in the area, I would not make the trek. It'd a DARK/DIM outdoor mini-mall, with confusing escalators/elevators (think maze-like), and just MEDIOCRE food. Don't get me started on the layout of the food court, the random claw-prize-machines, and the slow service.

UGH. Stay away, you're not missing anything special.
