The Office is still the best at using the mockumentary style

This is not to discuss if you like The Office or not.

The thing is, of all mockumentaries shows, The Office knew how to take advantage of it making it seem like it was a "documentary", the crew and the camera were a character. If Michael or anyone at the office didn't want the crew to see it, they would close the door, take out the microphone, they would speak really low or they would talk to the crew. It was fun in the later seasons where we also saw them and heard their voices.

The other mockumentaries seems just like a "optional aesthetic", most don't even acknowledge the crew which is a bit meh for me, like if you chose that genre, you should compromise to it and get the full potential (I always find it funny that the teens on those shows are never embarrassed to be onscreen or afraid to go viral or something cringe like that)

Ok, to be fair, I think "The fall and rise of Reggie Dinkins" is doing a good use of it but I'm still in the beginning.

What do you think about mockumentaries?

I am open to any shows-I've just been in a mood to watch something and I have no idea which shows are good/which shows aren't worth the hype. I would look it up but I'm worried I'll see a bunch of spoilers and I don't want that ti happen! So do you guys have any recommendations of shows I should watch? I'm open to pretty much any genre so just let me know!

[This or That] Skins or Euphoria

Based on pilot I pick Skins like the technicalities look dated in today standard yet I find the writing. Too realistic with everything would turn start wholesome to discomforting w/o exaggerated

Plenty of great shows have good endings

Just because The Boys, Stranger Things (which isn't a great show in the first place), Dexter, and Game of Thrones ended poorly doesn't mean that there aren't several shows that ended well.

Here are all the ones I've seen-

Mr. Robot

Hannibal

Breaking Bad

The Wire

The Sopranos

The Leftovers

Legion

Better Call Saul

Boardwalk Empire

The Shield

Twin Peaks (The Return is an even better ending)

12 Monkeys

Succession

(Original) Daredevil

Snowfall

Barry

Mr. Inbetween

Peaky Blinders

Bojack Horseman

Bates Motel

Andor

Lost (Imo)

The Office

This Is Us

Utopia

Is it Impossible for Great TV Shows to End Well?

The Boys finale left me disappointed and in tears. Homelander was built up as an earth-wide threat, a walking apocalypse. I expected chaos and a massive showdown. Instead, we got a lame fight where he somehow struggles against people not even on his level.

It felt way too small. Still, I cried when Butcher died. Beneath all the rage and horrific things he did, he was a guy willing to cross lines to protect the world. Broken and ruthless, but ultimately trying to protect people, especially Ryan.

So it got me thinking: Is it really that hard for great shows to stick the landing?

Smallville The finale was an abomination. Slow-paced, oddly small, and trapped by its own ridiculous “no tights, no flights” premise for way too long. After years of buildup, we barely got to feel Superman. Darkseid felt wasted, and Clark finally becoming Superman felt more like a technicality than an emotional payoff.

Game of Thrones People are still angry about this ending. Years of character arcs collapsed at the finish line. Characters who deserved meaningful conclusions either died abruptly or got shoved into endings that felt like punishment or boredom. The pacing became absurdly rushed, and massive emotional moments landed with the weight of a wet paper towel.

How I Met Your Mother This one might be one of the most frustrating. The finale practically invalidated years of character development. We spent seasons watching Barney grow beyond his old habits and Robin realise what she wanted, only for the show to undo their marriage in minutes. Then after spending an entire show building up the Mother, they kill her off and circle Ted back to Robin anyway. It made the title of the show feel weirdly pointless.

The Flash A show that started strong but completely lost the plot. Terrible CGI, repetitive “run faster” solutions, villains who stopped feeling threatening, and emotional speeches replacing actual stakes. The finale somehow made major villains feel like random side quests while sidelining Barry in his own story.

Arrow After years of gritty buildup, the ending felt bloated by crossover baggage and spectacle that did not feel earned. Oliver deserved a more grounded emotional payoff tied to the core themes of the show, not something swallowed by the wider universe.

At this point, if writers cannot commit to landing the plane, maybe stop stretching shows forever and ending them like trash.

What great shows actually stuck the landing? Because right now, it feels rare as hell.

I waited a whole week to watch The Boys just for this, and I’m really disappointed. I had expected so many things to happen.

Will you be watching spider noire in color or black and white? i can't make up my mind!

I have the tendency to watch movies and shows once, and once only, and would like to have the best experience overall the first time I watch it.

Just that, I can't decide between the two, they both look good! I enjoy black and white in general, but the color one also looks great and I can't decide which one would be the better experience.

Did they mention about director's intent or vision for the show? I'd love to hear which one people would go with if they had to watch it once.

Absolute shit - My thoughts on the ending

Personal thoughts about "The Boys" show ending.

Homelander had to be stopped because of the innocent people he killed.

But the majority of people who wanted him to be physically massacred like that are, in a way, not so different from the violence they condemn in him.

I strongly believe that prison, with nothing to see or do, powerless and isolated, can be worse than death for a human being.

It would have been an extremely harsh punishment for him already: exposed before the entire world, stripped of his powers, and rapidly incarcerated. A fallen “god” forced to finally face humanity as an ordinary man.

I say this because Homelander is also a tragic character. He could have become a Superman-like figure, but instead he was raised in a laboratory without love, empathy or human warmth, and turned into a deeply broken and dangerous person. This does not excuse his actions in any way, but it is still important to acknowledge.

The final scene disturbed me not because he died, but because once depowered and terrified, he was no longer the untouchable tyrant he had been. In that moment, he was simply a frightened human being.

May his soul finally rest in peace, and may heaven belong to the innocent people he murdered.

What character moment in a TV show made you completely dislike a character and never redeemed them again?

For me it is this moment of Dutch in The Shield. He is one of the main characters >!and kills this stray cat after a serial killer tells him how it felt for him to kill a puppy as a kid!<

What are some top tier TV shows in the past 25 years that consistently get pushed to the side because of the heavy hitters?

When I say heavy hitters I'm talking about The Sopranos, The Wire, Friends, Seinfeld, Band of Brothers, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Mad Men, Game of Thrones, Arrested Development, even Dark (Netflix)

I see all these TV shows as like the valedictorian or top 1% but what are some unsung heros or forgotten Gems in this golden age of TV
